Nice post hornsfan2 and i will answer few of your questions.

First of all, this is a "young" USC team. USC fans did not expect USC to make a realistic NC run. Yes we knew USC was already talented, but its very hard to replace a Heisman winning QB and your #1 defensive player. Also all 3 running backs graduated and completely new secondary. In addition, USC is starting a QB with ZERO game experience and is only a soph. USC fans expected the next 2 years to contend for a NC because USC is returning basically everybody next year. SCARY!

Why did USC lose to CAL? Background info. The game was @ CAL, and Tedford is an awesome up and coming head coach. Watch out for CAL in the future. Very good offensive minded head coach. Cal had this game circled and threw the book at USC. The excelled and played almost flawless (even Tedford admitted it). After this game, Cal tanked because they put everything into this game. Now to the game in brief summary.

For starters, our new qb played horrible for the first 2.5 quarters and CAL jumped out to a 21- 7 lead. Not to make excuses, but the refs made 2 horrible PF calls and a crucial holding call on OT that hurt USC. But no excuses cuz thats part of the game. USC was down 21-7 at half and started coming back late in the 3rd q. USC was down by 3 with 2min. left and had 3rd and 2 on Cal 12 and did not get it. USC tied game with field goal. First OT USC got ball first and was running down CAL throat until our soph. RB fumbled on the goal line and Cal recovered. (only fumble this year for USC). USC fortunate to block field goal of Cal. 2nd OT both teams scored a TD (Cal scored theres on a 3rd and 6 with nice TD PASS). 3rd OT USC got horrible holding penalty, and USC kicker missed a 39 yard field goal. CAL kicker (who made a 52 yarder earlier in game), made a game winning 37 yard field goal. Game was put on ESPN as instant classis. USC played horrible, CAL played very well, game went into 3 OT's, USC blew golden opportunities and lost the game. Not that bad of a loss for a "YOUNG" USC team.

As for USC beating any SEC team by double digits. I firmly believe that, and USC already beat AU 23-0 @ AU. USC has much better team now! Yes other SEC teams are better than AU, but I think OU is the only team in the country that would give USC trouble. LSU could upset USC, but if they were playing next weekend, and USC was 3pt favorite, I prob. would bet 2-3 times my normal wager.

If I am going to bet $1000 on USC to win NC next year, i better believe USC has 75% to win it. USC simply will be loaded next year. But thats not very important talk right now.

As for USC and OU. I think OU has not seen a "team" like USC. Also, i do not think USC has seen a team like OU. USC has seen great passing teams, great rushing teams, great offensive minded head coaches, and great balanced teams offensively. I do not think OU has seen an offensive team like USC which would be interesting to see if the OU defense could stop USC. If they do, I def. tip my hat to them. I can go into great matchup analysis but i will wait until USC is playing OU in sugar bowl.

All in all, i think too many fans are not respecting USC enough because of the Cal loss. Fans should see this is a VERY YOUNG USC team, and a team that improved and bounced back right away. Fans should respect and fear that. USC has not even come close to peaking yet this year and USC is blowing teams away.

FIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott,

I will lead in to this saying that I am a Tennessee fan, and I think they will get the s**t kicked out of them this weekend at Miami. Why?
Because I am a realist.

USC is a good football team and had a good win at Auburn to begin the season. Would they win at Auburn now, I don't think so. Would they win by double digits at Auburn now, HEL* no!!
If USC was in the SEC, they would still be a good football team, make no mistake about it. I think they would probably lose 2 conference games depending on the schedule and who they played on the road.

What you have to understand is that the PAC-10 is probably not even as strong as the MAC, so you are always going to be in a position to win 9-10 games a year. Don't blow that out of proportion until January rolls around. Just thank the lord that you are in a weak conference and that you might have a chance to play for the national championship.

I think after USC wins at "least" 2 NC's in the next 5 years, everyone will realize USC is for real. USC simply is loaded with talent for years to come.

I understand why so many people are not believers in USC. But every opposing team USC has played are now believers.

The funny thing is the last 2 years many opposing teams fans knocked down on USC for the same things your saying. USC proved them all wrong. I disagree with you Skipper and its ok to disagree.

IN THE LAST 2 YEARS..........

Iowa said BIG 10 is so much stronger than pac 10, and Iowa OL is so much bigger and physical, Pac 10 is weak

Highly ranked AU said for the last 2 years they are more physical, USC would melt in the heat/humidity in south, pac 10 does not play smash mouth football

Highly ranked CO said USC not physical, pac 10 weak, altitude in CO will hurt USC

Highly ranked ND said USC has not seen defense like theirs, USC not physical enough

Washington St. this year said USC has not seen a defense as fast at theirs

USC beat every single one of these teams by DOUBLE DIGITS, blew em away. Its ok, USC fans and the team know how good they are. USC is for real, and that is why i make these statements until a team proves me wrong. I am not afraid to predict USC to lose (in fact i think OU would beat USC right now), i just call it as i see it. Only rule i have is i do not bet against USC but i do not bet on USC every week either.

FIGHT ON!!!!

Wow, this is quite a thread.

I feel like I should weigh in since I am a USC alum & follow this USC team religiously, but I dont understand why this is on a gambling forum.

Scott, I believe, Im in.

I guess I dont understand why you want everyone else to be? If you truly only bet on SC & not against them, you should let all the people that think they are over rated & play in a weak conference. It will take the line in your favor.

This thread belongs on a USC football message board.

I take it as a friendly debate and why not have this on a gambling forum. This debate is about college football and strength of teams.

Lsu is getting no respect. In my opinion lsu should be right up there at number 2 or 3 with usc in the bcs standings. They have the best defense in the country and play in a tougher conference than the pac 10. The pac 10 this year just isn't as solid as it has been latley. Lsu lost to Florida who is better than usc one loss to unranked cal. They have a much tougher schedual than sc, and if they win out they should be playing OU in the sugar bowl. I think this will be tough, as ABC is begging for an OU USC sugar bowl. lsu will not be ranked high enough in both polls to jump USC.

Exactly. I'm not saying LSU is better than USC, because I do not know. They are not, however, receiving the credit that they deserve. It is not LSUs fault that Marshall and BG backed out on them this season. The Tigers were forced to replace those decent programs with UL-Monroe and Div II W Illinois. What I do know(because I have not missed a play of LSU football in several years) is that LSU has outstanding depth and skill at WR and RB. I do know that LSU D Line is among the best in the nation if not the best flat out. I also know that LSU O line is among the best. They have a very heady and underrated QB who makes very few mistakes. Nick Saban has done an outstanding job and I feel that on any given Saurday the LSU Tigers can defeat the overrated likes of USC or the seemingly invincible Sooners of OU.

Where did you see that the Marshall and BG backed out of playing LSU? Surprising because both of those teams will play anywhere.

If LSU wins out at Ole Miss and hosting Arkansas and beat the SEC West, They will own the computers and the SOS part of the BCS equation. It's still in their hands, IMO

not gonna bash you scott, but just think about having to play the likes of lsu, georgia, tennessee, florida, arkansas, alabama, olemiss, and auburn all in one year. the only reason why usc could win a game against lsu, georgia,or most other sec teams is because we beat each other up every week and have a high rate of overtime games cause anyone can give you a game. usc goes through consecutive weeks at time with no real competition, so they are not as beat up game after game. the auburn win was impressive but auburn is not that great and especially not at the begginning of the year. you put someone on mike williams like ratliff from florida and blitz lienart, thats how you beat usc

I'll keep it short. USC has MANY weapons and MANY playmakers. The scary thing is USC lost both their #1 and #2 tight ends this year and both were awesome and USC didn't seem to miss a beat.

For your information, Mike Williams has been playing on a bum ankle the last 2 weeks. How has the USC offense looked last 2 weeks? Remember, Pete Carroll has been calling off the dogs in every game this year except CAL!

A healthy Mike Williams CANNOT be defended by 1 DB. Not gonna happen.

Teams can't blitz USC because #1 Lienart is excellent at reading defenses and USC uses a 3 step drop (especially since he is not mobile). #2 USC has a very good OL.

USC is also a very balanced offense with NORM CHOW calling the plays!

In Spring i was a full time volunteer manager. For Fall i can go to practices any time i want to help or watch. I went to every spring practice because i was more interested in how the team would be this year and what players would step up. IN fall its basically all set so I do not have much interest in going to practices. All practices are closed so that was my ticket in. Now i am friends with everyone there.

I do not post or call you out. I have nothing to do with you but again you feel a need to post to me and call me out. Why are you so threatened by me?

FIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott...no one is threatened by you. We all are in disbelief of the homer-ism that you are a victim of. Your Trojans have not played anyone and wont this year. I still think that there are a few teams that can overtake them if they win out. We will see. And if they do make it.....I GUARANTEE that Oklahoma will smash them!

Guarantee is strong word. I hope the OU players will be that confident.

ND2002HORNS is the one most threatened by me. I care less about him and he continues to post to me.

we'll see how good that OL is against the Sooner Nation!!!!!!

Tommie Harris and boys don't need to blitz!!!!

That 3 step drop might be just enough to let Leinert turn around before he is sacked!!!

one thing i do agree with is that no db can defend williams , i just think that if you can get to lienart you can force him into ,mistakes like forcing to williams. and by the way it would be hard to say that yall would even win the west or east of the sec
