Looking at finally getting around to buying one of these-(before football strats) -any suggestions on which one, brand -model. I definetely need it to be able to hook up to a printer when needed, to be used somewhere besides sitting at a desk, versatility etc.. Let me know your ideas-thanks:0008

At the office I have a desk top but at home I opted for a very small and lightweight laptop. I take it with me on the plane, boat or wherever I want. I picked it up at Costco for $250, it's a Acer Aspire 1, fast as hell.

It all depends on what you're willing to spend. I used to own pc's but I will never own another one. I bought a Macbook Pro a few years ago and have never had one problem with it. PC's just don't last as long as Macs. Take a look at the Macbook Air. Its very small, lightweight and extremely fast. Kickserv said it best, "Once ya go Mac, you'll never go back."

IPad for me. Take it most everywhere. Hardly use my Mac computer anymore.
If you get one go to Restoration Hardware and get leather case for about 90.00.
Good luck with your totals this year.

hawkeye,
it depends what you are going to be using it for.

if you are just consuming information, like photos, videos, tv shows, games then go with a tablet.

if you are creating/manipulating things - like word documents, excel sheets, powerpoint, photo editing, then you will want a laptop.

I know I'm in the minority but I like my desk top with a big monitor and when it dies I'll get another.

I have a laptop I never use. I have a tablet I never use. I used to use these things when traveling but my phone is good enough these days.

I don't need flexibility, I'm always sitting at my desk anyway.

Same here love my desktop and big monitor. But sometimes when i'm tired or feel lazy and hanging on the couch I use the tablet. The phone is used when I'm on the road.

have you considered setting up your laptop in a docking station?
You get the big monitor
the keyboard + mouse
all plugged into the laptop

then when you travel you can just pop out the laptop and go.

sounds like a tablet will be just fine for you

type letters, documents - typing emails is fine on the tablet, I'd even recommend you just get a tablet plus a case that has a keyboard in it.

if you mean typing 10 page reports you might want to consider a laptop.

sounds like a tablet will suit you well.
my advice - get one that runs the same OS as your phone if you have a smart phone.
will make things a bit easier for you bouncing between the two.

Amen to that- I have an HP laptop that I haven't touched since I've been married. My husband has a macbook pro (which I'm on now) that works SO much better.. Laptops are easier and more functioning than desktops and ipads...
