also i forgot to mention give yourself one day a week to eat whatever the hell you want

Addict was correct in saying this:

"another key part, dont eat all your calories in 1-2 big meals a day...break it up...

small breakfast, small snack before lunch, healthy lunch, healthy dinner.....keep your metabolism going....you literally can condition yourself to know the calorie intake of any food your going to eat...."

This worked for me to the tune of 25 pounds and never felt starved.

I found my south beach diet book last night :0074 Its a diet I can do I have to limit myself to certain foods instead of counting calories...The first stage is hard to do I have done it before, my cardiologist recommended the diet for me a few years back...

When I get back from vacation after Thanksgiving I think I might just start it...see what happens, I will be exercising no matter what

I couldn't find anything that I could do to drop the little bit of weight I wanted to get rid of and tone up until I did Insanity. It's exactly what it says. It's INSANE. I can tell you the first week I wanted to reach through the tv and strangle Shaun T. It's basically the lose and tone version of P90X but with P90X you have to buy a bunch of extra stuff to use to help you tone up. With Insanity you use your body as resistance. I loved it and I'm ready to do it again just for the hell of it. I only had about 10 lbs to lose but it came off fast the first month then evened out but then I started to gain muscles and tone up. It's 64 days. Six days on one day off. In the book you get with the DVD's they will give you a formula to calculate your intake and tips on how to get the best out of your workout. For me it was 1860 calories a day. You can use an app on your smart phone called MyFitnessPal to track your calories and your exercises too. Buy a heart rate monitor also. It will help track how many calories you are burning when you workout. You can get a good Polar one at Dick's. You will get a chart and everything to follow what days you do what DVD etc. You just have to have the ambition to do it. Only you can make that change if you really want it. Good Luck!:toast:

This is very sound advice. I am currently in my second month and I'm loving it. I am getting much stronger but I know I wont have 6 pack abs (I'm not following the plan strict enough, still drinking beer but added water)

Insanity looks hard when you see the commercials but it does get easier and I am sure Chicky and I can give you some tips. I know of one other MJ member I correspond with who is just starting out. I suggest to give it a try and I will encourage you every day.

Both of you are in far better shape than HH by looks of your photgraphs. Of course, I have seen more photos of PA in a week than I have of BP in the better part of a decade, but that is a story for another day.

Insanity is very high impact on joints, I know that because I had to stop after 3 days because my "bad" knee was swollen like a grapefruit. Talking with others I've gathered that folks who are grossly overweight (hedgehog) have been unable to keep up with insanity. Insanity is for those who are already in decent shape and want to take it to the next level imo.

Do as you will, but I would do 2 things for a few weeks, then you can consider Insanity.

1. Portion control
2. Exercise 5 days weekly

My mom had the same problem with her knees, although she's no spring chicken anymore either. Hedgie I'm not sure what you weigh but I do know that Insanity will make you work hard. They do tell you to "go at your own pace" but being the competative person I am I always seemed to push myself because that's the way I am. Cie is right- changing the way you eat will make a big difference and just getting some kind of exercise should make you see some change. I'm not sure what your area is like but we have "Rails to Trails" here so we have safe areas to bike, run, walk. etc. The first step is getting off your butt to do it though. That's all up to you. :0074

I am a pro when it comes to gaining weight and losing weight. Wrestled in high school for several years. Here are a few of the things you can do to lose more weight:

1. Go to the gym and lift weights regularly (most people are too lazy to do this)

2. Take a 30 minute walk every day (another one people are probably too lazy to do)

3. Drink A LOT of water

4. Eat fruits and vegetables, avoid dairy, carbohydrates, and sugar (people don't have enough discipline to do this)

5. Try meal sizes with smaller portions.

6. Use supplements like this and this and this.
