Probably because they chew people to pieces more than other dogs.

Those of you who are on my FB can see the chick kissing the fish she caught, that's my sister.. When I was 5 and she was 10 she was viciously attacked by a pit bull breed. I stood there watching and it ripped her face apart. My sister was lucky she lived, her dog attacked the Pit Bull and got it off of her, I was double lucky cause I would of been killed had it attacked me. My sister had at least 7 surgeries to repair her face. Most can see that the surgeon did a good job. The Pit Bull was owned by my grand parents who raised that dog well.

My friend owned a pit bull then had kids and noticed that the pit bull was getting more and more protective so he wouldn't chance it and found a home for it.

I love dogs, I love looking at Pit Bulls but I don't trust em and neither would my sister.

I have seen Golden retrievers attack a kid when space was invaded unwantingly, springer spaniel bit my friend when we were kids, required 15 or so stitches, and have seen several chihuahuas get aggressive and bite people. What is your reason for those? There are bad owners, and a few bad dogs with good owners, I agree. Kind of like you, the big bad boss guy that is the bad apple in the bunch. Sorry Jack, no respect for this fucker and his "I am the boss, you will mind me, employee attitude" in another thread. I will leave it at that.

Pitt Bulls are the ONLY breed considered to be 100% American made. The breed originated here and was the most popular dog breed in the states until the early 70's when the nation went nuts for Digby, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin but mostly... Labrador Retreiver's.

It is ALWAYS THE OWNERS FAULT no matter what. Pitt Bulls are bred for loyalty and temperament.

Their jaws don't lock either, like I have heard people say.

I have fostered more than a hundred Pitties and have never been bitten by one. I have been bitten by Pomeranian's, chihuahua, maltese, Chow, and Malamute and have not fostered or rescued near the number of those dogs combined that I have Pitt's. Not even close. I have been a volunteer at the Humane Society and several area shelters since 95, and have fostered some extremely troubled dogs. All were traumatized and mistreated by humans at one point or another, I adopted three dogs that were found to be unadoptable. One is a pitt mix, she's sleeping right next to me as are the other two and my daughter's pinscher.
Please read up on these vastly misrepresented breeds and don't be so quick to judge all based on the actions of a few. Breed specific legislation does absolutely nothing except promote hate.

I sympathize with you sister and understand her being wary of them. When my daughter was very young she got bit in the face by a German Shepherd. She only had a little puncture wound and it left a scar. For some time she didn't like Shepherd's, but with some "hair of the dog that bit ya" she understood that she shouldn't have stuck her face in the dog's face.
I hope you can get past this. They are really great dogs. They get forced to fight, used as bait dogs, get their ears cut off at birth as well as their tails sometimes. It's horrible what these poor dog's go through man.

i really do not know how it could of been my grand parents fault that the dog was aggressive. They owned many many dogs as I was growing up and only seen loving relationships, only dog that bit.

I do realize that pit bulls are mistreated and forced to fight and sadly many get tortured or euthanized unjustly. I myself could never own one, but I think you have seen the picture of the dog on my lap in the bar, Hoss, he's owned by the bar owner who sponsors my team, I think he has pit bull in him but I could be wrong and I love that dog. So it's more something I'm very leary about

If the dog was aggressive, the dog was aggressive.

Also, those numbers in the second study are according to PRESS accounts not actual attacks as many are not reported. Not a lot of nips from a yappy little maltese get reported to the press nor are they ever reported on. Again, those numbers aren't representative of actual attacks.
