Yep, I would still take Cabrera maybe not at his age but man he is a tough tough out. I follow a team who for the past 15 years have had nothing but good defensive, base running outfielders. I want the guy in the clutch, who is feared and Miggy,

Trout may turn into that player

Trout is the better player now. I would take him.

Trout is also very good.

Carlos Gomez has been the best in baseball this year, better than Trout, better than Cabrera.

Facts are facts.

But I'd take Trout over Gomez (who has only done this for 1 year).

I wouldn't mind Cabrera either.......

You are talking about Baseball-reference WAR only, Mike Trout (6.4) is above Carlos Gomez, McCutchen, Kershaw and Cabrera with 6.3 all tied. WAR has a margin of error of around .5-1 wins, so yeah not a fact.

fangraph's WAR tells a different story, Trout is running away with it at 7.4 and Cabrera 2nd at 6.7 with Gomez 5th with 5.5.

The difference between both WARs is what defensive metrics they use to calculate the defense portion of WAR. All defensive metrics are highly debated and it's been agreed their usefulness over a single season is not really accurate.

Trout's winning both of them, but I think this year Cabreara should, they are giving too much weight to defense and baserunning, the way Cabreara is outhitting Trout should be enough. Also, defensive metrics wouldn't give so negative numbers to Cabrera if he was still playing first which he is not doing to help his team field a better offensive team.

Miguel Cabrera is not even in the same zip code as the greatest ever. Not sure why that thought is even entertained.
