Something happened in my late twenties where I just couldn't bear to watch the gore. I think the movies today are so evil and torturous in comparison to the slasher films I grew up with.

I was in the kitchen for most of the movie Hostel....

'Avatar's' Record-Setting Gross: the Official Count

Through Monday, according to Fox, Cameron's epic had grossed $1.859B globally; ?Titanic? took in $1.843B

By Daniel Frankel
Published: January 26, 2010

http://www.madjacksports.com/forum/Fox has released official numbers verifying that ?Avatar? has usurped ?Titanic? as the top-grossing film of all time.

Through Monday, according to the studio, director James Cameron?s new 3D movie had grossed $1.859 billion globally. His 1998 ?Titanic? took in $1.843 billion.

?Avatar? was already the top international grosser of all time, with $1.3 billion in ticket sales through Monday.

"Avatar" is the second highest grossing film domestically, with $555 million in ticket revenue, also through Monday.

With a marginal week-to-week drop of around 20 percent, ?Avatar? should overtake ?Titanic? ($600.7 million) for the top slot in North America this upcoming weekend

I think this is the more telling list.

Watched 5 movies the past 2 days while sick and 3 more the past couple of weeks

Man on Wire 4 stars out of 5 Very interesting
Inglorious Basterds 4 stars
Green Street Hooligans 3.5 stars
Assassination of a High School President 3.5 stars
Following 3 stars
Lymelife 3 stars
Star Trek 3 stars better than I expected
Brother's Keeper 2 stars

Man on Wire Philippe Petit captured the world's attention in 1974 when he successfully walked across a high wire between New York's Twin Towers. This Oscar winner for Best Documentary explores the preparations that went into the stunt as well as the event and its aftermath. Obsessed with the towers even before they were fully constructed, Petit sneaked into the buildings several times to determine the equipment he needed to accomplish his daring feat.

Assassination of a High School President Think Chinatown for the teenage set. While investigating the theft of his Catholic high school's SAT exams, sophomore newspaper reporter Bobby Funke (Reece Thompson) uncovers an even bigger conspiracy. But will anyone believe him when he accuses the class president? Director Brett Simon's comic noir co-stars Mischa Barton and Bruce Willis as the unbalanced Principal Kirkpatrick, a shell-shocked Desert Storm veteran.

Green Street Hooligans Drawn into a bogus drug scandal by his wealthy roommate, a high-achieving Harvard newspaper editor (Elijah Wood) is kicked out of school just a few months shy of getting his degree and flies to the United Kingdom to live with his sister (Claire Forlani) and her family. But his subsequent involvement with the local Green Street Elite -- a gang of violent soccer fans -- could change his life forever.

Following Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight) writes and directs this odd, claustrophobic neo-noir film about a seedy young Brit (Jeremy Theobald) who's obsessed with following people -- albeit harmlessly at first. After meeting a like-minded bloke (Alex Haw), the twosome graduate to breaking and entering -- but meet their match in a tough blonde dame (Lucy Russell) who may have dubious plans of her own.

Lymelife Set in 1970s suburbia, this coming-of-age tale revolves around the exploits of a pair of Long Island families grappling with complex relationships, financial woes and an outbreak of lyme disease that's "terrorizing" their community. Brothers Derick Martini and Steven Martini helmed this quirky dramedy that features a stellar cast, including Alec Baldwin, Rory Culkin, Kieran Culkin, Cynthia Nixon, Timothy Hutton and Jill Hennessy.

Brother's Keeper is a 1992 documentary directed by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky. The film is about an alleged 1990 murder in the village of Munnsville, New York. The film is in the "Direct Cinema" style of the Maysles brothers who had formerly employed Berlinger and Sinofsky.

I'm still in recovery mode, so we'll be watching another movie tonight...

11:14 Five seemingly random story lines intersect at precisely 11:14 p.m. in this innovative drama-thriller written and directed by newbie filmmaker Greg Marcks. Even though they're strangers, Buzzy (Academy Award winner Hilary Swank), Mark (Colin Hanks), Cheri (Rachel Leigh Cook), Jack (Henry Thomas) and Eddie (Ben Foster) will become a part of one another's lives -- even if it kills them. Patrick Swayze and Barbara Hershey co-star.

I just bought SAW VI over here. I guess I picked a winner.
Watched it yesterday. Does that guy ever die? Geesh!

I can't keep up with that movie. Too many flashbacks into the earlier Saw's that I didn't see or don't remember.

I have seen them all. I will watch it tonight and see what I think. I don't have many options here. Not like I have a Blockbuster around the corner.
