Yesterday was my daughters 21st birthday. She met her mother for the first time exactly eight years ago today. Her mother had issues and I spent several years in court trying to keep her away from Kristyn until she sought help. Anyway, her friends arranged for a limo to pick her up from home and take her to dinner and then all go out. I was there to take pictures and feel very proud, as she walked down the sidewalk I asked her what she would be drinking and she said "Long Island Ice Teas". I told her to be careful and that there is a lot of alcohol in them but have fun.

I have to admit it was a bit heart wrenching for me to see the girl that I still address as princess to this day walk off and get in a limo to go make all the mistakes I did. As she pulled off in the limo I couldn't help but feel a bit lonely as I turned and went in the house. I contemplated that for a minute and went into the kegerator in the garage and drew a Warsteiner into a frosty mug and went back into the house. About twenty minutes later the doorbell rang, and it wasn't the secret ring that I tell all to use. It rang again so I got up and answered it. When I opened the door there was my daughter standing on the stoop with a yellow rose buttoneer and a yellow rose corsage. She proceeded to tell me that she could not even concieve celebrating her 21st birthday without me and if I would please get dressed, there is a limo waiting to take the two of us back to the restaurant.

Was absolutely the most gratifying, heartfelt, best moment of my life. To all parents and grandparents out there let me just say that my daughter, her friends and I had a great time and,...... that all your efforts, all the love, all the dreams you pour into your children..............can be paid back in a single moment,,,....................and what a wonderful moment it is. Cheers to all and have a great holiday............I already got my present

Awesome story, sounds like you've done a great job bringing up a thoughtful, classy girl.

Now just make sure she stays away from guys that frequent this place and you'll be fine.

I can honestly say I don't know where I went right! I wish there was some sage advice I could give someone but there isn't. I just know that being a single parent may not be your choice but it isn't a sentence either. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I really just can't get over how great that moment made me feel and I can't explain to you guys what it feels like to have that happen. I will say this though, there are many members on this board that I respect and like, and truly appreciate that you guys took the time to read this and share in my unadulterated joy today.

Its funny.......I still remember when she used to fit on my chest and how her little hands would ball into a fist when she slept. Again, don't mean to beat this to death but.................................................Merry Christmas all................Happy Holidays and all that.

Kosar,
shoot me an e-mail sometime I think I will be in your area, if I have your area correct, in the near future and would like to have a beverage. The addy is my screen name plus 2002 at yahoo.

truly my greatest accomplishment in life

To bad more people don't have the same attitude you have towards raising their children. Congratulations on a job well done. You definetely got the best gift of all.

Very nice, congrats!

Honestly, knowing you posted, I kept waiting for the punch line to slap me, lol! Hard to know with guys like you when a post is going to be serious. With your own upbringing that you have talked about on here before, I know it's especially gratifying to you that your daughter has turned out so special, isn't it? Congrats again!

This was the best thread i have read on here in a long time. I actually teared up a little. Kind of like when Morgan freeman walks down the beach toward Tim Robbins in Shawshank.

As a single parent It really hit home.

Thank you

I can only hope that I perform my parenting job to this extent and have the respect of my children.

Merry Christmas!

fdc,

what a great story. It's a testament to the life you created for her that she did what she did for you on her birthday. you should be proud of yourself for that. I have a daughter 22 and a son 19, a grandson that I cherish. I tell them I love them everyday. My wife and I were blessed and I thank god for that. you'll remember that forever. have a great christmas...
