NBC is putting Coach back in the game.
The broadcaster is reviving the 1990s sitcom with original series star Craig T. Nelson.
We?re told this not a reboot, but a sequel to the comedy series that ran for nine seasons on ABC from 1989 to 1997.
The pitch: ?Coach Hayden Fox, in the present day, has retired from coaching. He is called back to become assistant coach to his own grown son, who is the new head coach at an Ivy league school in Pennsylvania that is just starting up a new team.?
NBC has ordered 13 episodes, which will be shot in the traditional ?multi-cam? sitcom production style. There?s no other cast yet, so it?s unclear if any of the other actors from the original series will return. Barry Kemp, the original creator of Coach, will write and executive produce.
The move keeps Nelson in the NBC family now that Parenthood is coming to a close and represents the latest move by a TV network to dive into the recycling bin for buzzworthy content ? like how NBC is reviving Heroes with Heroes Reborn, Showtime is bringing back Twin Peaks and Fox is re-opening The X-Files. In this case, while Coach used to air on ABC, the show is owned by NBC sister studio Universal Television.
NBC has demonstrated more rating strength in recent years thanks to The Blacklist and The Voice. But the networkhas struggled ? like most ? to find new break-out comedies. Other attempts at yesteryear sitcom nostalgia, such as titles starring Michael J. Fox (The Michael J. Fox Show) and Sean Hayes (Sean Saves the World), didn?t work out. But perhaps viewers will take a time out for Coach?

Agree about the show. Unwatchable crap.

The character got his name from Iowa's head coach at the time, the legendary Hayden Fry. The lead writer is a graduate of the University of Iowa. Many of the shots of what was supposed to be the school Hayden Fox coached at were pictures of the University of Iowa campus.
He certainly didn't do the rest of us Iowa grads any favors....

I never watched it either....maybe they`ll use 84 year old jerry van dyke creatively and do a pseudo "weekend with Bernie" style plot line.......he was never very funny so a wooden indian-type character would be an effective utilization of a limited resource...

Oh, I didn't care, I just saw this and threw it up there.

I thought it was strange that they would be bringing back a show that was cancelled years ago. I think the chance this show has to be successful is about zero.

I was pulling your chain.my brother....my attempt at humor was flatter than kate moss.....

I`m anxiously awaiting the draft and hoping we can get a young wide receiver and maybe a tight end prospect.....but we seldom draft offense early.... we certainly have some holes to fill at the offensive skill positions....

can`t wait for august.....:toast:

I hate the move. Why would they do that?

I like it.....taylor wasn`t a pro qb(imo)...schaub fits the mold of the offense(they say we`re keeping kubiak`s offense and schaub had something like 7 years in that scheme).....he knows it and the offense won`t have to shift it`s "style" so drastically if something(god forbid) happens to joe....

I really think that wenning is being groomed to be the career back-up and they probably see schaub as a sort of bridge to help wenning learn and become more comfy with the offense....

they`re also talking to az te rob housler....I hear he`s fast and he`s still pretty young(and we`re desperate at the position)........he had a very down year last year(of course az`s whole offense did)....

maybe ar knows something about him?....

Who was their backup before Schaub?

Teams need a semi-competent back-up....

Tyrod Taylor.

I can't see spending 3 million on a QB that prob won't even take a snap. Keith Wenning is fine as the backup, spend the money on something we need, like receivers.
