G, appreciate the confidence you had in BG and advice to pass on the half.

Are you as sonfident on the under as you were the BG side?

thanks,
Bill

no. i dont think im gonna play anything for the rest of the bowl season that was as strong as bowling green last night.

that said, im certainly 'confident' in anything that gets posted. not one to toss out 'action plays'. i think the under is definitely the way to go tonight.

Those 2 first half turnovers haven't helped our under too much. Fingers crossed for no more from here on out!

bomber:

thats what its gonna come down to (taking care of the ball).
there hasnt even been 200 yards of total offense in the first half. punt return for a TD. interception return for a TD. fumble in own territory by marshall. gonna be close in the 2nd half. offenses not doing much at all, but mistakes proving to be the x-factor. game not gonna stay under if those mistakes continue.

ANOTHER WIN!!!!

I should have been on it gman. I was too busy today with preparing for the holidays though and did not have time to gamble. Did not really care for any of the games as well.

SWEET WIN!!!

Nice call on the under gman! Would have cruised under if not for those early turnovers. However, a nice win all the same especially as unlikely as it seemed at the half.

birmingham blazers 2nd half

i really went back and forth with this one before the game before decided to wait it out until the halftime break. ive got all the respect in the world for what hawaii can do at home, and they have probably been one of my top two or three moneymakers over the course of this season. no doubt theyve been real good to me. but i think uab is the way to go in the 2nd half. theyre far more physical than the warriors and when it comes down to crunch time, they can run the football very effectively. every time hackney drops back, theres guys wide open. uab gets the 2nd half kickoff, and i think its very likely they take it right down and punch it in for 6. obviously both defenses getting torched, but i think uab's balance is what ultimately will allow them to regain the lead and keep it. catch you guys on nfl sunday. have a good holiday.

toledo rockets (-3.5)

nothin crazy on this one, but making the almost obligatory play on the one team that has been an absolute cash machine for me this year. not at all thrilled about the hard-luck injury that mcdougle suffered on the last play of the mac championship game, but all indications are that gradkowski will be able to play through his injury with little problem. hes one tough cat. uconn has a pretty formidable defense, but toledo is just rolling right now.

this game sets up almost like hawaii/uab. hawaii won two big games on national tv to close the season (northwestern, mich state) and toledo has won two big games to close out the season on national tv (bowling green and miami). now hawaii and toledo are both laying relatively short numbers in their respective bowl games, and both are playing pseudo- home games. hawaii actually in their own building, whereas toledo might as well consider ford field their 'home away from home'. they do so much recruiting in the detroit/se michigan area and play in downtown detroit often enough that they know their surroundings well.

there were many (myself included) who believed hawaii wouldnt be able to get it done against a team from a better conference in the sheraton bowl. chang and owens tore it up again and continued to prove people wrong.

and im sure there will be many who will look uconn's way because of their big east affiliation and the fact that toledo is a little banged up.

it wont matter. toledo is the better team. theyre the best team in the mac, and right now, the mac is damn near equal to the depleted big east. rockets are fortunate to have a lot of depth at running back so, while the loss of mcdougle is still a blow, its not a crushing blow by any stretch.

no sense in trying to 'guess' if the toledo train will derail on monday. i really dont think it will.

huskies really havent seen this kind of offensive balance toledo will throw at them this year. their non-conference games were murray state, duke, gatech, army, and buffalo. playing their schedule makes their defense look a helluva lot better than it really is imo.

will post a few more things as game approaches.

Don't have a strong feeling about this game as I did the BG game gman, but will ride this one out with you. The offensive balance of toledo is a huge bonus and as we have seen from them in the past (BG game), getting behind on the scoreboard does not necessarily mean the end of the world with this team due to their quick scoring ability. Hoping the MAC continues to treat us as well as it has all season.

another good gradkowski article:

Breaks don't stop Toledo QB

Gradkowski won't miss bowl game, despite his injured passing hand

Associated Press

Lance Moore still can't believe it.

Three weeks after the Mid-American Conference championship game, the Toledo wide receiver continues to be amazed at the courage shown by quarterback Bruce Gradkowski.

Despite breaking two bones in his passing hand in the first half, Gradkowski threw three second-half touchdown passes to lead the Rockets to the Motor City Bowl with a 35-27 victory over Miami of Ohio.

``He's out there throwing passes with a broken hand, and with his other shoulder separated,'' Moore said. ``How could the rest of us not play hard, knowing what he was doing for us?''

In some ways, Moore felt that Gradkowski's effort shouldn't have been a surprise.

``He's just so tough,'' the receiver said. ``He's always playing through pain, even in practice. Even when everyone else would take a day off, he's out there working harder than anyone.''

The day after the game, Gradkowski had two screws placed in his right hand, but he is expected to play Monday against Connecticut at Detroit's Ford Field.

``It's still a little sore, and I probably can't throw quite as hard as I did before I hurt it, but I'll keep working at it,'' said Gradkowski. ``My shoulder is pretty good, too. It's just stiff some of the time.''

Gradkowski's one concession to the injury is that, during all the pre-bowl festivities, he has been shaking hands with his left hand.

``Some people have pretty firm grips, and I don't want to risk that,'' he said. ``I can't even feel the screws.''

Toledo coach Tom Amstutz is used to having an accurate quarterback -- Gradkowski finished second in the country with a 70.8 completion percentage -- but he was still startled by the performance against Miami.

``That was incredible -- I've never seen anything like it,'' Amstutz said. ``We couldn't keep him off the field with a broken hand, and then he completes almost every pass and throws for three touchdowns.''

Moore caught three touchdown passes in the game, including two in the second half, to continue a season-long partnership with Gradkowski. The senior finished the season with 85 catches for 1,141 yards and a school-record 14 touchdowns.

``Lance is a very special player,'' Amstutz said. ``He had over 100 catches to lead the nation as a junior, and he had another great season this year.''

Moore and Gradkowski came to Toledo in the same freshman class, but Moore will be done a year earlier.

``I redshirted as a freshman, so I won't have him with me next year,'' Gradkowski said. ``We just have great chemistry after playing together for so long. I know what he's going to do and he knows what I'm going to do.''

Moore is thinking about the NFL, but realizes that Gradkowski has helped him on that path.

``He's a great player,'' he said. ``I know that a lot of people doubt Bruce, but there's also a lot that think he's the best. I'm one of them.''

what happens if gradkowski takes a lick and goes out early? don't think toledo could survive that scenario.
