Minnesota Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer will sit out the first three games of the upcoming season because of an anti-gay comment he made, Talking Points Memo reported.

A pair of Minneapolis attorneys hired by the team to investigate claims of rampant homophobia did not find strong evidence of a hostile work environment, but they did confirm that Priefer made a ?single homophobic statement to [former Vikings punter Chris] Kluwe.?
The comment: ?We should round up all the gays, send them to an island, and then nuke it until it glows.?
The team announced Priefer?s three-game suspension on Friday.
The investigation stemmed from Kluwe?s release from the team and an article he wrote for Deadspin entitled, ?I Was An NFL Player Until I Was Fired By Two Cowards And A Bigot.?
In Kluwe?s article, Priefer is identified as the ?bigot.?

FILE ? This is a July 28, 2012 file photo showing Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe at NFL football training camp in Mankato, Minn. The Vikings have retained a former chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court and a former federal trial attorney to conduct an investigation into Kluwe?s allegations that he was released from the team due to his support of gay marriage. The team made the announcement on Jan. 3, 2014, one day after Kluwe penned a scathing article alleging that special teams coordinator Mike Priefer made anti-gay comments during team meetings. (AP Photo/Genevieve Ross, File)

Kluwe claimed that he was harassed for his outspoken support of same-sex marriage, that former head coach Leslie Frazier pressured him to stop his public activism for same-sex marriage and that he was cut from the team over the issue.

Priefer has ?vehemently den[ied]? Kluwe?s claims, and the investigating attorneys determined that it was bad football performance, not his social activism, that lost Kluwe his job.
?We? did not find sufficient evidence to establish that members of the Vikings organization attempted to discourage Kluwe from engaging in marriage equality or equal rights activism or that the Vikings harbored a homophobic hostile work environment,? the attorneys stated in theirreport. ?The investigation materials support that the Vikings released Kluwe for football performance reasons and not his views on marriage equality.?

?We should round up all the gays, send them to an island, and then nuke it until it glows.?

How could anyone with a leadership position in a business organization say something like that in 2014?

Oh. I see it involves the Vikings. Nothing would surprise me.

I guess there is no more - "what is said in the locker room, stays there"

I am so sick of the PS bullshit in this country. In what is seen as the free world, you have to apologize for every little fawking thing is so pathetic. Do I agree with this guy? NO. When I was coaching, did I call a player some things I shouldn't have? YES

STFU and get the fawk over it. You gotta be shitting me if this hasn't been said in every fawking locker room from high school to the highest level of sports.

Oh, and the prick that is whining is a FAWKING PUNTER

No such thing as free speech when employed with a company/organization. Vince Lombardi would not have said that in the 60s and he was 20 times the coach this jack ass is. As Pat Riley likes to say, 'Get a grip'.

Just because things have been said in the past is no barometer for whether they should be tolerated now. How are we ever going to advance as a society if this methodology is applied?

Also I liked the irony (whether intentional or not) of noting that it was a punter, and therefore a lesser caliber of football player, making the issue in the first place.

Poon - I have a great amount of respect for you, but I am just sick and tired that anything and everything someone says has to be approved by the PC police.

I am quite sure that Tony Dungy will lose his job in 3, 2, 1...

Tony Dungy has a bit of teflon about him, so I think he is safe.

Do you really think this Vikings case is just some PC stuff getting overblown? To me either the guy (Priefer) firmly believes that stuff or was being over the top just to annoy Kluwe. And if either is the case, it wouldn't surprise me if the actions that lead to Kluwe being cut weren't just about his performance or salary. Kluwe was definitely a distraction. Dungy probably wouldn't have wanted to draft him either.
