The thing I remember about Tilman was he was ALWAYS flying toward the ball. He was obviously not the fastest...but, his heart was probably bigger than any player on the field.

Just out of curiousity......I know a lot of posters on this forum had about the same initial reaction to this news.....
I'm not writing this to piss off all the patriotic people who already have or may respond to this thread....
But how many of you, having heard this news a few years back that he was going to give up 9 million to go into the military, responded with something like "he must be on drugs to make some kind of decision like that"........
Admit it, a lot of you had that kind of reaction.......if you was like anybody I talked to back then......all the people who I heard talking about that story and giving up the 9 million all acted the same.....they compared him to Lawrence Phillips for not staying in football for a few years and having the world by the ass.....
I'm not downplaying his sacrifice to his country......he gave up his life.....and as some of you have already stated in past posts in this thread, not many people would trade millions for a rifle and a foxhole.....he was definitely among the minority.......
Most people on this forum, myself including, have steady day jobs, work to pay the bills and have a little extra left over to enjoy other pursuits.......maybe that was why myself and other people thought he was nuts to go into the military when easy street was little more than a signature away.....

you have to go back 50, 60, 70 years to find individuals that possessed the balls & morals of Mr. Tillman. Ted Williams was my fathers hero, I remember him telling me several times he missed 5 full years of his prime fighting as a fighter pilot first in ww I I, and then in Korea. 5 complete prime seasons. Yet he still finished with 520 career homers, hit 400 etc. etc. as a kid I went to Ted Williams camp, and have witnessed him speak many times at various functions at Hall of fame and around Boston. Not once did I ever hear him say "if it wasn't for those 5 years I could have passed Ruth etc. etc." best of my knowledge he never said anything to that effect.
Pat Tillman must have been that same kind of person, throw back with proper values and beliefs. He is someone I won't forget.

I just got back from Vegas with a friend of mine who is a Chicago policeman. He works in the same district with my brother, but has been on much longer and I knew him before he was a cop. He said another cop that was in special forces (of some sort) just got back and told him some of what is going on over there. My friend said that we are wiping them out. There aren't the same pre-cautionary type guidelines as in Iraq and the battle can be fought in a more effective manner with the "gloves off". They are actually in more an offensive posture and are in a "seek and destroy" type mode and the enemy is destroyed at 1st sight. You don't hear about this from the media much. But, if anyone has noticed, you don't hear of many negative stories coming from there. I think the method they are using is working much more effectively.
