can't stand southwest for the same reasons ar182 can't. i hate lines and i hate going to my gate early to get into a line so that i'm first in another line to get in another line to get a seat. horrible policy, imo.

I wish I had one closer to me, no SWA at Reagan National (DCA) which is the closest airline for me to fly out of. When I have flown SWA they have been most accomadating and nice unlike some of the others.

kneifl
you just like them because they are cheap! :142smilie

Jack -- You can walk up to the gate as they start loading passengers and have pretty much pick of seat that you want.

Login 24 hours in advance to their website and "check-in". Then you will be in Group A.

If you walk up to the door when they start loading, you will be the 20-25th person on the plane.

No lines. No Hassle.

hey dawgball -

Southwest just started flying from Denver and they do have good fares, but there are a lot of different kinds of tickets they offer. Just wondering which one you usually get, because I am one of those people who is deathly afraid of planes so I have to sit by the window near the front and therefore I would need to check in 24 hours in advance it seems to be guaranteed a good seat, or else I would need about 20 valium to get on the plane. Do you know if you can check-in 24 hours before with all of their fares, or just some? If you don't know I can call customer service (but I am also deathly afraid of the phone). If you do know, then thanks!

SWA does have decent fares and travel to some less traveled domestic airports and that definitely provides an option to the customer. I do not generally fly many other airlines unless I am traveling out of country or something but many fares at SWA and other low cost carriers can be matched with larger carriers dependent upon many factors such as; proximity to departure date when purchasing ticket, length of stay etc..... Flying seems to scare alot more people than it used to. Its making a comeback though.

yeah, i have something like 150,000 now. i'll see what happens since this flight is booked already. if they go OOB and close down, all i have to do is cancel the charges at amex and get another flight. glad i didn't use them on the return flight. i used them on the way out because it was the only non-stop flight available.

FYI...amex made their rewards better for flights. It used to take 2x the number of points per airline mile for a free ticket...a 25000 ff mile ticket would cost 50,000 amex points. They now changed it to a 1-1 even exchange so really with 150k points you can get several flights.

Just wanted to throw that out there for the future in case you didn't know.

i never paid any attention to the points. where do i go to learn about cashing them in for airfares and do i have to join some FF plan to get them?

all i thought i could get was an AM radio for 100,000 points or some chit. LOL

Here's how to pay with points:

* 1. Search for a flight, hotel, cruise, or Flight + Hotel package with American Express Travel.

* 2. When prompted, log in to your American Express? Card account and check the point balance. Find out how many points are needed for your travel selection.

* 3. On the checkout page, choose to pay with points for all or just part of your trip.

That was nice of them to move you to first class, you can tell the people in coach how cold the water is after you go screaming into it at 300 knots because the aircraft wasn't properly maintained.

That was kind of rough, sorry about that.......funny............but rough................just don't like the fact that they shipped their maintenance overseas costing thousands of people their jobs, livelihoods, homes,...etc............ Then proceed to collect financial relief from what was once your and my tax money, and then are allowed to operate under bankruptcy, abrogate their entire pension to the PBGC to provide tax payers with a bit more of a burden and relieving them of any obligation to pay those employees of the past what they rightfully deserve and earned. It sickens me and should sicken every American citizen that it is allowed to happen.

Personally, I have great heartache crossing a picket line whether evident or not I know it exists at NW and therefore will not cross, much in the same way I would not want someone crossing a picket line I was walking at a place of employment that I had an agreed upon wage that was not honored, a pension that was shit canned, and scab employees hired. Thats just me though I have a bit more respect for the American worker than that.

Thanks bud i will never fly this airline again. Its a shame most people really don't care about your response or will fly this airline again. That was nice of them to get bailed out with our tax paying dollars and then go do what a true scumbag would do.

I love Southwest for the following reasons:

1. Highest on-time rate of major airline (at least in my experience)
2. Employees at least act like they give a **** that their employer is getting your business
3. If I need to reschedule, I call and I have a LIVE person on the phone in less than 2 minutes tops.
4. Low prices
5. Many destinations from Nashville
6. Check in 24 hours in advance (schedule it in your OUtlook calendar) and you are guaranteed a great seat at no extra charge
6a. If you do check in early, and you are in "A" group, then you can keep your chair in the terminal until the A line is almost all the way through then walk right up to the front. This is virtually like the sap that stood in the B line for 45 miinutes before boarding to get a good seat.
7. Their rewards program is great. No blackouts. Can book 5 minutes before flight if you want with no questions. 4 round trip flights booked online with Southwest credit card, and your next round trip in continental US is free.

The Boys -- got any info on Costco? :mj07:

I agree as well Dawg! Plus the fact that my ex works for Southwest and gives me free passes to fly anywhere in the US.

Hippo -- all fares included.

The only real difference that I know of is that some are cash refundable. Others are only credit-refunded.

If you call SWA's customer service, though, I would almost guarantee that you talk to a real person in less than 3 minutes, and you don't even have to go through a phone tree.

AND I guarantee you that the person on the other line is going to be more helpful than you have dealt with at other airlines.

My business partner lives in ATL so no Southwest, and he gets so tired of me singing their praises.

It really is a far superior airline experience (if you can't afford to fly private and you don't have a gazillion points to get in the Royal Clubs).

im not to sure if this place is still in business but if you call the number 1800 fly cheap they figure out the best rate at the best time you can go on all airlines. Im sure there must be a website that does this now but that is what i use to do. Jack im sorry to hear about your problems about the emerency isle. I wish you would have kept your mouth shut tho cause i use to do this all the time. Man it was like an insider trick. Your site is getting to big to be letting these golden tidbits out. Just kidding bro.

kayak.com should be the website of choice for people looking at travel fares. it brings everything in on one page and gives you a lot of smart, friendly user options.

If you fly a lot, this should be your homepage.

NW will not go tits up, all labor unions with the exception of the flight attendants have agreed to a contract.(with their hands tied behind their back).I cant comment on over seas maintenence, but in the US the maintenence is farmed out at smaller stations to the airport maintenence, for example in MSN, wisconsin aviation does maintenence work on not just NW planes but all the carriers that fly in. Unless the problem is too great then say, NW would send their own mechanics from one of the hubs down to work on the plane. These are NW mechanics. Mark my words, when NW comes out of bankruptcy in 2007, the ceos and all upper management will pay themselves huge million daollar bonuses. That is where the problem lies, they just asked their workers to take cuts to bail them out, then they'll give themselves a bonus for a job well done. In a nut shell most airlines NW, AA, Delta, continental, United are really not that much different. A lot of times it just comes down to the person whom is serving you, in otherwrds the customer service aspect.
