I can already see this thread is a losing battle. I just got HBO on a special package from switching services. They have a great special on obesity. It's a growing epidemic in the US. You'd never see anything like this in Europe. There are way too many people here doing nothing except stuffing themselves. The problem with the kids is worse, I remember what it was like to go out and play catch and tag and get a regular few hours of exercise when I was a kid. Now all kids do is play video games - yeah, I liked them too but they didn't overtake my life.
I'll be the first to admit it, I'm 6 foot 3 and I have let my weight go before. I'm currently at about 195 lbs, but a lot of that is muscle from running 6 miles a day and lifting. I have been at 190-205, it fluctuates - my goal is to be regularly at 190 but during the holidays I tip the scale. Used to be at 220 lbs back in 2005-2006. Let myself go, was drinking too much beer and eating junk all the time. After that, got sick and had kidney transplant - my weight fell down to in between 160-170. Skinny as a bone, you would be too if you were on a dialysis machine 3 days a week. Best friend gave me a kidney, got better and started gaining weight. Doctor warned me that I could gain too much weight because of the meds I take daily. I've also looked at pictures of post kidney transplant patients and they gain a lot of weight. Scared me because I didn't want to look like that. Anybody that knows me, looks at my fb or sees me regularly knows I take care of myself because I was given a second shot at life. I try to eat like everybody else, but do the salad and vegetable thing during the week and indulge on Saturday and sometimes Sunday. That's all you need to do and leave a few hours for exercise five days of the week. One more thing, I agree there should be a tax on being overweight but it should be tied to height, genetics, progress, etc. It would do this country a whole lot of good.
