I can already see this thread is a losing battle. I just got HBO on a special package from switching services. They have a great special on obesity. It's a growing epidemic in the US. You'd never see anything like this in Europe. There are way too many people here doing nothing except stuffing themselves. The problem with the kids is worse, I remember what it was like to go out and play catch and tag and get a regular few hours of exercise when I was a kid. Now all kids do is play video games - yeah, I liked them too but they didn't overtake my life.

I'll be the first to admit it, I'm 6 foot 3 and I have let my weight go before. I'm currently at about 195 lbs, but a lot of that is muscle from running 6 miles a day and lifting. I have been at 190-205, it fluctuates - my goal is to be regularly at 190 but during the holidays I tip the scale. Used to be at 220 lbs back in 2005-2006. Let myself go, was drinking too much beer and eating junk all the time. After that, got sick and had kidney transplant - my weight fell down to in between 160-170. Skinny as a bone, you would be too if you were on a dialysis machine 3 days a week. Best friend gave me a kidney, got better and started gaining weight. Doctor warned me that I could gain too much weight because of the meds I take daily. I've also looked at pictures of post kidney transplant patients and they gain a lot of weight. Scared me because I didn't want to look like that. Anybody that knows me, looks at my fb or sees me regularly knows I take care of myself because I was given a second shot at life. I try to eat like everybody else, but do the salad and vegetable thing during the week and indulge on Saturday and sometimes Sunday. That's all you need to do and leave a few hours for exercise five days of the week. One more thing, I agree there should be a tax on being overweight but it should be tied to height, genetics, progress, etc. It would do this country a whole lot of good.

SAINT: I was talking about all sports related injuries, and you give no response to how it can possibly work. We can't control drugs and alcohol in this country and we are going to control sugar? What's next SALT? Red meat? Education has a better chance to change people's eating and drinking habits than laws. Stop letting kids opt out of phys ed would be a good start. I remember when I was young you knew who the head of the President's Council on Physical Fitness was. Now I'm not even sure if we have one. Take away cell phones and computers from kids, you'd get the same results as a cola ban :0008

You mean the one who employs 3000 people and pays their healthcare premiums?

Next.

Saint,
I respect your opinion but you are dead wrong on this comment. American Airlines CEO Tom Horton doesn't employ anyone, the company does. A CEO does not own the company, I am sure you know that. I hardly think that a more than 300:1 ratio of CEO to Employee average pay helps anyone but that individual. Proof is the fact that the entire European average is somewhere around 30:1, and while not all have strong economies, Germany's is far better than ours and they are at 32:1, so it is just another example of American Corporate greed that goes unchecked in this country. Maybe some laws on the art of fair play and honesty might go a lot further to healthy population. Wouldn't it be great if every one of those CEO's took a pay cut to go to 32:1 and turn all that money back into the company so people like myself and the entire rest of the company don't have to take pay cuts when they mismanage and completely fuck up their job?

Very surprised you wold support that kind of bullshit greed, and I didn't even get into the whole "pays your health premiums" statement. Check the news, they bailed on that pretty much industry wide. We have flex benefits and I pay 41% of my premium but luckily our top 72 executives get a completely free 100% paid plan for them and their entire family. We don't want them to struggle.
Sorry bro, I disagree. I still dig ya man so don't get mad. I ain't ripping on you, but definitely think you are wrong here.

I'm in favor of a fat tax. Overweight people are a burden on the healthcare system and we all pay for their poor choices.

We already pay enough fucking taxes, its none of the governments business what I look like, what I eat, drink, etc...fat tax, you people are deranged

HELL
Saint,
I think a fat tax will stimulate lawmakers to make more tax laws much better than it will avert Jack from eating pie.

Hope that helps,
FDC

Nothing wrong with eating a little pie every once in awhile....

Somebody may have said this, but seriously we all would be paying tax. If you ever go to your doctors or when you do, take a look around at the BMI/weight chart which is like from 1950's. You are mostly likely overweight or obese.

Yeah maybe the rates could be a little cheaper if he could take a smaller amount lets say 2 billion a year? On another note i applaud Bloomberg for doing this. At least someone stepped up. Diabetes is an American disease plain and simple. Our diet is killing us and at least he had the balls to do this.

i`d love to know how this civil servant can unilaterally impose this restriction?....he`s not a fricking potentate....

if i recall, the mayor of philly tried a similar stunt and it died a slow and painful death(and rightfully so)...

you`d think that in america, there would be a process that would have to be followed..

i guess not in nyc..this midget just waves his magic wand and issues mayoral proclamations....that`s not how it`s supposed to work...

How about those who return for or ask for refills? Are they going to be arrested on the spot? The SOUP NAZI from Seinfeld can be used for the AD campaign. :mj07:

You mean like gay marriage? You are the biggest hypocrite out there. Gay marriage is okay for the government to tell people what to do, but when it comes to taxing fat asses like yourself you have all this outrage.

You are one dumb fuck.

Some good posts in this thread.

FDC, you make a good point regarding CEOs. My comment was more tongue in cheek since the comment by the brainless KOD has nothing to do with the thread/topic.

Regarding those with a 'genetic predisposition' towards being overweight, the truth of the matter is, if the shit you put in is in excess of the shit you put out, then you will gain weight. That's a bunch of shit, "my whole family is overweight"....it's not because you're genetically designed to be fat, it's because your fat ass parents ate McDonalds all day and fed your fat ass McDonalds and processed foods from the time you were able to consume calories. Can two people eat the same diet and be drastically different weights? Sure. So what should the heavier person do? Either consume less calories or start working out to burn more. I love all these diets out there. Just burn more calories then you eat and you will lose weight.

50% of our population will be obese by 2030. HALF! I do agree that current BMI models would need to be modified and I'm also not talking about people who are a few lbs overweight.

There have been many recent studies showing that money will motivate people to lose weight. If the avoidance of tax is another motivator, for the personal and collective good, then so be it. It's no different than taxing people out of smoking. Yeah, yeah, "it's my business if I kill myself smoking". Not when your actions directly and indirectly affect others.

Hedgie, shocker you don't support this. It's because you are probably another one of those lazy fat fucks. You'd think after getting dumped by your wife you'd get your shit together and get healthy for yourself and your kids. Show of hands of those who oppose who are 40lbs+ overweight.

This is the American Family.

Can you honestly tell me that a child this age is genetically wired to be this fat?

it`s not the sodas,saint...it`s the precedent that you set when pseudo-tyrants like bloomberg start issuing proclamations...let the damn thing go through the system and if the people want it it,so be it....
