Some good posts in this thread.
FDC, you make a good point regarding CEOs. My comment was more tongue in cheek since the comment by the brainless KOD has nothing to do with the thread/topic.
Regarding those with a 'genetic predisposition' towards being overweight, the truth of the matter is, if the shit you put in is in excess of the shit you put out, then you will gain weight. That's a bunch of shit, "my whole family is overweight"....it's not because you're genetically designed to be fat, it's because your fat ass parents ate McDonalds all day and fed your fat ass McDonalds and processed foods from the time you were able to consume calories. Can two people eat the same diet and be drastically different weights? Sure. So what should the heavier person do? Either consume less calories or start working out to burn more. I love all these diets out there. Just burn more calories then you eat and you will lose weight.
50% of our population will be obese by 2030. HALF! I do agree that current BMI models would need to be modified and I'm also not talking about people who are a few lbs overweight.
There have been many recent studies showing that money will motivate people to lose weight. If the avoidance of tax is another motivator, for the personal and collective good, then so be it. It's no different than taxing people out of smoking. Yeah, yeah, "it's my business if I kill myself smoking". Not when your actions directly and indirectly affect others.
Hedgie, shocker you don't support this. It's because you are probably another one of those lazy fat fucks. You'd think after getting dumped by your wife you'd get your shit together and get healthy for yourself and your kids. Show of hands of those who oppose who are 40lbs+ overweight.
