it`s not the sodas,saint...it`s the precedent that you set when pseudo-tyrants like bloomberg start issuing proclamations...let the damn thing go through the system and if the people want it it,so be it....

Gw I agree. The soda ban is absurd.

There is no accountability in our current society. It disgusts me, obviously.

i think we agree on more issues than not...what`s scary is that at some point, you may have to get approval from some bureaucrat to charge for pulling a tooth or doing a root canal..i know it sounds absurd, but it really isn`t....

Some good posts in this thread.

FDC, you make a good point regarding CEOs. My comment was more tongue in cheek since the comment by the brainless KOD has nothing to do with the thread/topic.

Regarding those with a 'genetic predisposition' towards being overweight, the truth of the matter is, if the shit you put in is in excess of the shit you put out, then you will gain weight. That's a bunch of shit, "my whole family is overweight"....it's not because you're genetically designed to be fat, it's because your fat ass parents ate McDonalds all day and fed your fat ass McDonalds and processed foods from the time you were able to consume calories. Can two people eat the same diet and be drastically different weights? Sure. So what should the heavier person do? Either consume less calories or start working out to burn more. I love all these diets out there. Just burn more calories then you eat and you will lose weight.

50% of our population will be obese by 2030. HALF! I do agree that current BMI models would need to be modified and I'm also not talking about people who are a few lbs overweight.

There have been many recent studies showing that money will motivate people to lose weight. If the avoidance of tax is another motivator, for the personal and collective good, then so be it. It's no different than taxing people out of smoking. Yeah, yeah, "it's my business if I kill myself smoking". Not when your actions directly and indirectly affect others.

Hedgie, shocker you don't support this. It's because you are probably another one of those lazy fat fucks. You'd think after getting dumped by your wife you'd get your shit together and get healthy for yourself and your kids. Show of hands of those who oppose who are 40lbs+ overweight.

Now I am totally with you here. The modern American family has gained weight and gotten lazier over the years.

Great posts btw. Kudos to all that have kept this a good debate. It kicks ass.

Another interesting point as far as our common diets and health care go. Since 1960, thyroid disease as well as glandular disease and hormonal and chemical imbalances occurrence is more than 139 times what it was. More than 23,000,000 have glandular disorders just in the U.S. We have the highest occurrence in the world. For years this all went unchecked as we were eating ground up cow thyroids which triggered absorption of the T1 T2 and T3, thereby ceasing the need for the pituitary to release and manufacture thyroid stimulating hormone. This leads to some serious diseases, such as Graves disease, Cretinism, and goiters yet it wasn't until Canada (way to go Kick) actually had such a fit about mad cow disease and imported cattle that much stricter regulations were placed on farming cattle. There is much more to this that would take forever to explain but can you imagine? We have known that this was happening since the 80's and it took until 2008 to pass the stiffer regs on it. Its a damn shame. The problem is,that most of America is aware of the dangers of fast food but do you ever see an empty drive in window at the Inn-n-Out?

or at (just for my good buddy Rolltide) What-a-Burger.

I agree people are getting way too heavy. I just don't want a "nanny" state, especially laws which are so easy to circumvent. Politicians just sound foolish when they bring them up......Anyone on here ever look at a picture of factory workers from the 50's or 60's? maybe even a high school class picture from those decades? Size wise there isn't a whole lot of difference. Check one out today. :scared

Exactly. Look at the average height as well. In 1964 the average height of the American male was just under 5'10" (5'91/2"). The average now is quickly approaching 6'0", with the occurrence of giants (people that are taller than 6"8") more than 30 times more common.

I don't know if people just naturally worked harder or there was more to do but they certainly did stay skinnier. Then again, look at Ali. He weighed in at around 215 or so most of his career. Now guys like Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos clock in at 265 and are in better shape.

You must be right. Didn't the well intended American Disability Act under BUSH 1 kind of add it as a disabilility no matter how acquired?

We seem like the only country with fat poor people. Obesity might be the only disease passed down from the rich to the poor. In olden days it was the rich who were overweight and gluttony. It was a symbol of wealth.
