Interesting. Thought Scott cornered the market on bending handles, especially this one. You must be sober today.

on another note....

Glad everyone here comes from and is exposed to such a nice "white bread" (as Chadman put it)backround when it comes to the education system. FWIW, the Chicago Public School system here can't even afford pens, pencils, paper, or toilet paper, let alone computers or some French guy to come in and teach. I know on personal knowledge that many of the basic physical buildings in the system are completely shot. NO decent operating heat, water, windows etc. Throw in what I said above and I really believe, at least here in Chicago, were Mr Genius is supposed from, you can keep your foreign language crap.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with politics. It's an awesome job though of ignoring the white whale in the room. He's gonna make a "fine" LMFAO politician.

Interesting Operator,

I'm not sure what is going on in schools today. When I went to high school, it was REQUIRED that we take 2 years of a foreign language or something else that I can't remember. Anyway, most people took the foreign language. So I don't know if my school was unusual, but I think was pretty standard stuff. Nothing new about foreign languages being encouraged, right.

did they teach about tipping?

.............................................................

where I grew up the only tipping we knew about
was cow tipping.

Cow tipping is the activity of sneaking up on a sleeping, upright cow and pushing it over for fun.

Cows can easily be pushed over without much force because they are slow-moving, slow-witted and weak-legged, have a high-centre of gravity and sleep standing up.

................................................................

Its really fun as hell under the right circumstances. A few friends and I were sleeping outside in a tent one night in our backyard. It gave us freedom to get up at 0200 and go raise hell.

So we go to this field and be damn there are a bunch of cows out there standing motionless.
These dumb ass cows are asleep at the wheel.

These cows are ripe for the tipping.

Its pitch black. I get behind this one that looked zonked. I run and push in the top middle as hard as I can. It was like hitting the fawking hole in football, a bum rush with all my force.

So I slam against it and it dont budge. Not a inch.

Felt like I ran into a brick wall.

I get up and look and its a fawking bull. With huge balls and everything. And now its mad as hell. And I think he was going to protect his brood of cows he fawked daily. It was like slow motion. Before I could get to the fence, the bull got me underneath somehow, flipped me 10 feet into the air and I landed on a stump.

Now the bull was mad. The rat bastid had blood in his eyes as he pawed the ground. He was going to stomp me to death. My friends were behind the fence at this point, and yelling at me to run. Run Scott Run.

Run hell I said. I pulled out my .45 auto and as the bull made his fatefull charge , I pumped five shots into his skull.

A boy scout is always prepared.

I wiped the blood from the bulls head onto my hand and painted my face as I made my way across the field. I got a new nickname that night.

Cow tipping, its similar to kickball.

I believe you are correct on the mandatory 2 year thing. I think he was referring to a more serious and permanant 2nd language train of study, possibly starting before HS. I don't think 2 years of any language high school level class cuts the mustard as far as being fully functional with a person abroad in real life situations for the rest of your life. I blew through my 2 years of Spanish and would have no shot at conversing with anybody.

The point here is he's not addressing the real situation and lets not kid ourselves, he's as much a politician now as ANY in the field. Let's just throw around "change" and the word "change" for kicks. Might as well start saying nobody has to pay taxes if he gets elected.

I completely agree that the educational system needs major reform. We could start with paying teachers more and putting more money into schools than into war. However, perhaps learning Spanish would actually have more applicability to real life than learning some other subjects?

When I lived in Africa, the kids sure didn't have a stable educational infrastructure, but they all spoke at least 3 languages fluently. I'm just suggesting that it might be more of a cultural dilemma than a political or even economical one. We are very ethnocentric and don't emphasize the value of other languages and cultures. I doubt any politician will ever change this, and damn obama for even suggesting we should consider catching up to other westernized nations where the majority of people speak more than one language!

Back about 50 years ago when I was still in school. The big push was Latin and French. We learn slow. Here we are living with millions of Spanish folks from South America who speak Spanish and we were learning French. It's time we get it right. Our 2nd languages should be Spanish and Chinish.
We have to compete and do so much business with both. So Obama has it right.

Maybe both Spanish and Chinish - wouldn't hurt to learn Indianish as well

I agree with Raymond. Keep the nation retarded. Why make people brighter? They may end up voting for their best interest one day.
