You continually bash people on this board for their lack of intelligence or their poor language skills. This seems to only occur when the individual has an opinion that differs from yours. To answer the question about, "why is it so below americans to learn another language": it's not below them, it's above them. Learning another language isn't easy. What is easy, is to tell everyone else that they should speak your language....now that's easy.
If I have an educational regret/defiency, it is that I have never learned another language. I tried learning Russian from some CDs a few years ago, but I lost interest when I realized I had nobody to practice with/on. My wife speaks fluent Spanish, so I've been thinking about getting one of those Rosetta Stone packages.
I am not a believer in Obama, but it's a sad state of affairs when we, as a nation, can't take criticism. It speaks volumes about our temperment, intelligence, and future. Didn't John F Kennedy challenge the country? I wonder what our collective response would be if he challenged the people of 2008? Oh, wait....I already know.
