Chad.... Great to hear that they cleaned it out, I'm it was a GREAT RELIEF. You are a trooper having that stinking ass catheter in that long, I was going nuts after 4 days. The only thing great about having a catheter is that you can be talking to someone & pissing at the same time. Take Care !

really great news...got the big one out of the way that's the most important thing. The mind is very powerful, imagine yourself getting better...visualization aids in recovery IMO.

Hey, Joker, thanks for asking. March 21 update:

Definitely back in the swing of things. It's still a bit of a mental challenge dealing with some lingering midsection soreness and ongoing leakage issues. Neither is too bad; neither keeps me from living life. I'm supposed to avoid lifting anything above 10-15 pounds for a while, and I do realize that is an important thing after doing a bit of that stuff from time to time. In short, lifting/carrying much = pain. Tough to dial it back, but I have to.

The worst part is dealing with the urine leakage. It's more frustrating than anything, kind of an ongoing private embarrassment every time I leak into the pad. I have to wear one all the time, and that's also mentally a challenge. But, I kind of do that to myself, and hope that it will get better. The main struggle seems to come at the end of urinating, I can't seem to empty out the bladder completely and there's always some lurking, waiting for me to change positions, bend over, stop concentrating, etc. I'm guessing it might be somewhat like having prostrate issues without the prostrate, I don't know. Evidently it does take some time to beat this part of the deal, and in the big picture, it's manageable. I have not had any issues while sleeping (which worried me a lot), I always get awakened to pee, and it doesn't just happen when I sleep. That's a big deal, for sure.

I've resumed going to class and had little trouble there, other than my own private thoughts and battles. I've gone to basketball games and ran two indoor baseball workouts (with help from others). My appetite is strong and was all along. I was able to go out Friday night with a buddy, drink 4 beers and maintain things just fine.

So, all things considered, things are great. I am concerned about the leakage, but hopeful it will eventually be under control. The erections thing will come later, either by myself or with help from the little blue pill. I am definitely attracted to the same things I was before, just not that motivated to head down that path until I control the other thing.

Hopefully this prodded some people to consider things in a positive perspective. I hope everyone gets themselves checked early and often. The fact I got mine taken care of early had a huge effect on how well I'm doing, I'm sure. Especially with the clean surgery and result. A larger prostate with more cancer would have been a lot messier process, for sure.

Cheers! :0074

Surgery was on March 3, so technically 18 days after. I guess I expect the worst and hope for the best in most scenarios, so, I challenge myself to get these issues taken care of quickly. Not realistic, but I don't intend to have them long, if I have any say in it... :D

One thing that has helped immensely is having such a wonderful support group around me - from finding the right urologist and hospital, to a supportive yet motivating wife, to friends who had friends that experienced it and could give really good advice.

I'm truly blessed to have had so much to work with in this process. I'm sure more options and support than most have - which helps the results along.

Including all of you - thanks again.

Thanks for posting, Chad. I'm glad things are looking up for the most part. I recently was checked and will be getting checked twice a year from here on out because of your post. I never went with the finger exam because my blood test is always very low. This time it was .4 but I got the finger just to be on the safe side.

Wishing you the best.

While I don't condone the finger test for personal reasons ( :scared ), it has to be a part of your general checkup. In my case, my PSA was still quite low - 2.4 I think, but the only reason any of this happened was thanks to my general doctor doing a finger exam and noting a hard spot on my prostate and an irregular shape. He sent me to a specialist, telling me all the time it was precautionary and not worrisome, and after two more people confirmed the concern, the biopsy showed the problem.

Get the finger, dudes...
