In all seriousness, I care because the wonderful United States of America (I AM being serious--no irony or sarcasm there...for a change) has been, is, and will be a leader in whatever direction our world will head. Great things have been accomplished and great things remain possible. At the same time, obviously, I, personally (what else is there), believe that our planet has been led down the wrong path in a number of areas and I--rightly or wrongly--hold the USA to be greatly responsible for such misgivings. I believe that by 2100--more likely sooner--we will not only see stagnant economies but will also be enveloped by some serious ecological problems such as that we will have no choice but to change "our" directions whether or not it fits into our economic (the dominant paradigm) models. This current rant cannot encompass the entirety of my concerns for the future--obviously--but I can only conclude that a McCain leadership will be a repugnant engagement of the status quo while there remains some decent evidence that a rejuvenated Democratic leadership will pursue and, even, acquisce to the more intelligent paradigms that are being envisioned by leading intellectuals in the fields of economics, science and foreign relations. We are in SERIOUS need of change and my hope is that change will, in fact, bring about change. Change is, indeed, ripe for the taking. I, again, will mention that the progressive-thinking economist Paul Krugman just won the Nobel prize for economics (don't assume the word "progressive" means "socialist" because it sure as shit doesn't) and that many other intelligent people, like him, will flock towards to the possibility of real change within a similarly progressive government. Sure, Obama gets the same B.S. campaign contributions from the fucked-up military-industrial complex that controls so much of current foreign policy, but that is just par for the course--Hillary had even greater support from some nefarious associations that appear to be welcoming the rapture instead of considering the next generations survival. The point that I am trying to make is that Obama seriously represents the possibility of change within our current systems and that he will attract the brightest of serious progressives which is exactly what we need at this present time. Sure, I still fear the status quo and the possibiility that once in power Obama will succumb to the wishes of the dipshits that really control things behind the curtains (please don't get me started on this one), but I am quite convinced that this is the best move--for the globe--in what appears to be a no-win situation. I only say a "no-win situation" as the models that we are currently living under are exactly that as far as future generations go. Again, change is needed and Obama appears to me to be a possible catalyst for some serious change. No...I do not support socialism or any ultra-left-wing bullshit. Capitalism is fine but major transparency within the controls of the elite--military, banking, health, shclameezle, schlamazzle--need to be enforced so that the health and safety of current and future generations becomes more of a priority than it appears to be now. Take a look at even the European Unions safety precautions for such basic things as children's toys, cosmetics and even food standards...ask yourself why they follow the precautionary principle and why we don't in North America. The answer is simple and it is the god-awful dollar that is the cause. Again--no socialism--fuck that. That is far from the point. MY personal concern is with relations between nations and the health and well-being of citizens within nations. The past 8 years has seen a total disregard for these primary concerns and a grim, apathetic attitude towards the future well-being of everyone on this planet.
ffsakes...I could probably go on...and might make more sense if I did, but I will leave it at that as I may or may not have finally contributed something of value, for a change, during this tirade that I've been on the past 8 hours or so.
Probably made some enemies over this time.
Not my intention.
I, myself, remain confused over our apparent priorities and am having a difficult time articulating just how grave I believe that our present path is.
I just hope that people will keep an open mind when examining the important issues that face the future of our planet.
My apologies for being such an asshole.
The future of our species remains in doubt and I can get quite annoyed when people do not recognize that.
