Dawgball,

You said you wished that the US had more global support. The US has 34 countries supporting them.

There is no reason for me to lie. I have nothing to prove. If you doubt my stories, there is nothing I can do about it. BTW, I did not mean to imply that all frendh people were like whay I described. It's just the ones against the US, for whatever reason, are the most vocal.

It just seems to me that when a country feels threatened, the US is usually with them. Now that we feel threatened, the so-called allies are not there.

Enjoyed the hell out of the French countryside, but the people of Paris can drop dead tomarrow and I wouldn't miss a single one of them.
Of course, you have never truly lived until you have been insulted by a French waiter who knows his 20% tip is already included in the price of your meal.....:(

Ed and The Shrimp--

Actually suprised you'd even bother sharing a bit of history with the ignorant right-wing that inhabits this board.
After all, if your not for us, you are against us....

England, u.k.
IN ANSWER TO "THE SHRIMP"

IN ANSWER TO "THE SHRIMP"

You make a comment "England was getting owned by the Germans till we stepped in".

Let me remind you that we never requested you to join us, all we asked for was food and weapons. We were taking on an army eight times our size and the rest of Europe just stepped aside. The Italians tanks had reversing lights on them because they couldn't decide which side to fight for. The French put up sod all resistance as they allowed Germany to move from Town to Town.

You as a nation only got dragged into the war because Japan made the worst mistake of their lives.

Don't drag up the past when millons of people died protecting their countries.

Furthermore, France have F-cking bad memories. Not to long ago they nearly ended up in War due to testing their nuclear weapons in the southern hemisphere. knowing full well Australia don't allow nuc's. If not for the intervention of Reagan and Thatcher then France would have been flatten. What a big f-ucking mistake that was by our two countries.

France are just showing their strength while they have supporters. It's no big secret that France see's Iraq as a friend not foe. If all the other nations allied to the U.N. decide to strike on Iraq after the next report from the weapon's inspector's then with a blink of an eye France will come on board.

One day this country who eat frogs legs and snails and stick of gallic will require our help. That day I'm sure we will both say

:gf: . Until then you have us, although a small country, we are atleast your friends. So please don't make rash comments as it offends some people who like me lost family in the war.

The number one reason I will never go to France is the fact that the first time I was ridiculed or spit on because I was American.......I would not use the country's motto "When the sh*t hits the blender....the only option is surrender"....and instead would go down swinging.

Which, of course, would constitute about 20 more years in lockdown with Jean Luke and Pierre Souflet. No, wait...I'm American...make that 60 years.

There can be no respect for a county that shoots it's mouth off at every given opportunity....then runs and hides when it's on the line.

Screw France

The Former Undersecretary of Defense was right when he said on Hardball "Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion. You just leave a bunch of unnecessary noise at home."

Yes, Napoleon, the "lttle general" was a great tactician. Of course, keep in mind that the French were so impressed with old Nap that they banished him not once, but twice.

Other than Napoleon and a few other flukes, France has not faired well in warfare....
Gaellic Wars - Lost (to an Italian)
Italian Wars - Lost and only country to go 0-2 versus Italy
Hugenots - Lost 4 or 5 Religious wars to these folks
Spanish Succession - Lost
American Revolution - Won? first example of the "de Gaulle Syndrome." That is where the U.S. does all the fighting and France declares a win. In fact, almost all of France;s win have come only when U.S. intervened.
French Revolution - won and also lost this one!
Franco-Prussian War - Lost
WWI= Losing until U.S. saved their butts
WWII - losing until U.S. saved their butts
Vietnam - ran away as fast as they could and let U.S. take over
Nigerian Rebellion - Lost

You can see why it is so important to have these guys on our side!

I am going to interject in defence of the Bulldog.Sometime we get a little errogant here in US. We fought side by side with British each taking there toll but giving it their best "together"!
While many jump from one side to another when ever it dictates we have always been able to count on the English,Canadians and Aussies to be by our side and I am very thankful and appreaciative for their comraderie.

on the lighter side--They were questioning a french general on fox last night on why their tanks had one forward gear and 3 reverse gears. After think a minute he said in case we get attacked from the rear!

Saying that you can't have an opinion on France and their foreign policy because you've never been to the country is just a little bit elitist, wouldn't you say?

Take away the riviera and the country isn't that appealing. Maybe my opinion is slanted due to the complete jerks that I met throughout their country, but you can find much nicer places to visit in my opinion.

The fact is that they are a country who has little relevance today. It's fun to drink, eat and take naps. I called it college. But, they have not put in the necessary resources towards their military to have a say in anything that we do. And for them to not back up their duties as defined in the NATO agreement is crap. NATO saved them from having to put their money into a military and now they can't fulfull their obligations in the very treaty that has allowed them to exist.

So France doesn't want to go along. I'm just not sure why we care what the third world country thinks.

And Bulldog, the English citizens bravery in the bombings of WWII was what turned the tide of that war. The Brits are a wonderful people and our strongest ally. And once you've gotten outside the industrialized towns, England is the country with the beautiful countryside.

What's up in Iowa, you ask? Not the temperature, thats for should......;)

And, no snow, either. Cold without snow sucks big time, if you ask me. Told myself a while back to stay the hell away from threads like this one-- I tend to get a bit carried away when responding via a posting board like this one.

BobbyBlueChip--

Curiously, in all of my visits to Europe, I have yet to set foot in England. Have been to Scotland to golf and Ireland for the beer...;), but have yet to see Big Ben or any of the other English attractions......

British Bulldog,
I saw a report on TV this morning claiming that Blair is under fire in England because of his support for the U.S. concerning Iraq? They took a poll in England and 47% of the people think that Blair would do anything that Bush asked? And, about 75% of the English citizens feel we are not dealing with Iraq correctly? Do these numbers seem consistent with the overall opinion of the U.S. in England and our actions concerning Iraq? Do English citizens think we are a bunch of war breathing, blood thirsty barbarians?

I think that Blair is acting exactly like he should considering that England is our best ally. If the tables were turned, and England was in any danger whatsoever, I think the U.S. would be in full support of England and would be ready to go to war the very next day. Is England having second thoughts in supporting our military action in Iraq?

Stuman, the concerned...

No, I wouldnt' say it's elitist to expect someone to have facts and/or knowledge of a place before badmouthing it. I'd call it logical. Of course, being logical does seem like a pretty elite concept around here.

Come on...a woman got spit on holding a child on 9/11 in some store for no reason? What kind of a story is that. Now its the French who were glad about 9/11?

I was treated very well in France. It doesn't mean I think the whole country is polite, or that we should all move there.

Imagine some frenchman comes to New York and gets treated rudely because the average new yorker can't speak French. The Frenchman should go back to France and tell everyone they know what a shit hole the entire US is?

If someone thinks the French have poor reasons for not backing the US, then fine, let's hear them. But, "they're rude," "they're lazy," "they're bad fighters," are pretty stupid arguments.

If one thinks France should support the US, he might start by figuring out why the French don't support us and go from there. But making fun of the country so we can all just say, "phuck it. they're a bunch of lazy fruits anyway" isnt' very productive.

Stuman go back to WW II and you cant blaim the English folks for wondering alittle. We let Germany kick the chit out of England for over 6 months before we went and helped out. By that I mean chased them out of the Netherlands. The bombing of England was fierce. We sent over suppiles for about a year then got over there and started to help.

have always been quicker to capitulate to their enemies than to help their friends....as was said in another thread, they are jealous and resent the united states...as shrimp said, they have enormous business interests in iraq.....i was on the fence on this iraq invasion until recently....but,we now have n. korea with nuclear weapons(possibly able to hit the west coast of the u.s.)....we know that n. korea was caught selling missiles to yemen(a known terrorist sympathizer) from an unmarked cargo ship(unmarked-flying no national flag).....you have a communist country, that is dirt poor, that hates the west and everything they represent....that stands in the way of them overrunning prospering south korea...does anyone think that n. korea would balk at selling weapons of mass destruction to enemies of the west?......we may be facing a similar situation in iraq....i think we are looking at a preemptive action here to remove a serious potential threat.....we see the leverage that n. korea now has due to their nuclear weapons...iraq would also have that leverage if left to their own devices........and from what i`ve read, iran may not be far behind.....we may be to late....the cat may be out of the bag....we can`t make our national defense policy based on the concerns or economic interests of a two bit socialist country like france(that has a burgeoning muslim population) and political opportunist chirac........they didn`t lose 3 thousand people on 9/11.....i would be more worried about getting on board with up and coming economic power germany, russia and china....france should be irrelevant(unfortunately, they have been working overtime to undermine us at every opportunity) ....they could care less about the united states....and that is very short sighted of them....i would like to say thank you to british bulldog, and all our aussie, spanish, italian and eastern european friends that are standing their ground despite a possible increased threat against them due to their support..it is in all our long term best interests to stick together through these trying times...i know there is increasing anti-american sentiment around the world....their media is no different than ours...elitist and liberal....tony blair is under increased pressure in britain....yet,he stands solid even though it may cost him his job at some point....

i know many say our push to war is oil driven.....and there may be some truth to that....we truly need to put extensive effort into finding an alternate energy source and to somehow distance ourselves from our dependence on the middle east...........that is a long way off due to the enormous power of the oil companies...but,unfortunately ,there is a far bigger picture to consider here and now.....we are being threatened....and we cannot afford to sit on our hands as the french and germans would like us to........we have to protect our country and our citizens......many so-called allies would love to see us falter....but,we are still the moral and economic leader of the free world.....our country and the other democracies around the world are truly a phenomenon....

it amazes me that many don`t see the potential threat of these rogue nations enabling terrorists and their like to devastate our country and our way of life....iraq and n. korea themselves may not threaten the u.s(although that has now changed in n.korea`s case)......but if left to their own devices,i have no doubt they would enable these fanatics and provide whatever was necessary to try and devastate us and our way of life in any way possible...

As I see it,

The main point is not whether France is with us or against, but whether we're justified in invading Iraq. That's debatable.

The secondary point is whether we should invade Iraq without the support of France and Germany. That's also somewhat debatable.

What's moronic here is just bashing French people and the country of France because they disagree with the US. They have reasons for disagreeing with the US that are just as valid as our reasons for going into Iraq.

To dismiss what they say because they roll over in wars or because they don't tolerate pushy Americans or because there's not much to do in the country is just silly.

I miss football, too, Blazer. I'm channelling my arguing jones into stupid shit, like politics. I could actually care less about whether we invade Iraq or not than I do about losing 3 games in OT this past season getting 3.5 points with the doggie.

you seem like an o.k. guy.....but,anti-french sentiment is pretty easy to understand given the current circumstances.......there are some rumblings around that they may be tipping off the iraqi`s on where the inspectors are heading before the fact....that may or may not be true...but,the french leadership has been anti-american for some time.....throw in their business interests in iraq and their blocking our efforts at every turn, and it`s easy to see why many americans are getting their butts a little chafed...

you shouldn`t take it personally....it`s not aimed at you.....it`s a natural reaction to dislike people who dislike you....

g.l. bud....my comments weren`t aimed at you in any way shape or form...just opinions....and you what they say about opinions:D
