The US is not asking France or Germany to help fight the war in Iraq. The US is stating that if those countries are opposed to the war then they should abstain from voting on the security council in the joke that is called the UN.

As far as NATO is concerned, Turkey is asking for defensive measures be taken in case Iraq decides to attack Turkey because they are allowing the US to use their country for a northern attack. The charter states that if a NATO nation feels that their safety is at risk, then the NATO is supposed to be sent to help it's member nation.

The US is not going after Saddam & his thugs because they are interested in controlling Iraqi oil.If the US was interested in the oil they would simply start trading for Iraqi oil. If oil was the reason for the US participation in the Middle East, then they would not alienate all of the oil countries in the Mid-East by backing Israel. If the US would want to control an oil country wouldn't they attack Venzuela, who probably produces more oil than Iraq? Venzuela is a country with a weaker military than Iraq & a weaker gov't. It seems that it would be quite easy to control Venezuela.
No, the reason why Bush is hellbent on getting Saddam is because Iraq is a threat to our country. All they have to do is put WMD in a suitcase & travel to the US.

Gardenweasel,

Excellent post & right on point.

Shrimp,

The problem everyone has with France is their arrogant behavior to the US going all the way back to DeGualle. We always ignored them because there was no crisis, so they were tolerated. Now that the US feels for the safety of it's people, France & Germany are no where around. After all that the US has done for those countries. It is similar to a person having good friends who are in need of help. The friends either stand their ground & help their friend in need or they run. France & Germany choose the latter.

As far as the woman getting spit at I believe her because of the type of person my wife described her to be. There were many people who believed that the US deserved the attacks of 9/11. She was one of them.

Shrimp you can't really mean that. You could care less if we invade Iraq and have war over 3 OT losses in football. I think your just being funny. I mean you would care if one of the body bags coming home was your son or daugther. FB betting would not be on your mind.

So Cal
France has a good reason to want Iraq left as is - they do alot of trading with them. Great point that if this was really all about oil, why not just go to South America and get all the oil there. Iraq has only 3% of the world's oil. I would venture to say that Venezuela has more oil and the balance of South America offers a multitude of opportunities to snag oil. I won't say that stabilizing oil has nothing to do with this, but oil is not the main reason for fighting with Iraq. Thiis thread has lots of joking about France - they have always been the butt of many jokes about their win/loss record in war. But nobody is making this personal - hopefully no one is offended. But I would offer this question - let's say it is about oil - are you ready to end your dependence on oil to block this war? will you be riding a bicycle to work? What about the company you work for - do they need oil to stay in business? Oil is the blodline of the world right now - few of us could live without it at this time.

England, u.k.
Firstly let me say thanks to Dogs that Bark and Bobby Blue Chip for your kind words about joint effort in the wars way we have stood side by side.

Now on to Stuman who posted and asked me the following which I will answer at the bottom of his copied thread.

British Bulldog,
I saw a report on TV this morning claiming that Blair is under fire in England because of his support for the U.S. concerning Iraq? They took a poll in England and 47% of the people think that Blair would do anything that Bush asked? And, about 75% of the English citizens feel we are not dealing with Iraq correctly? Do these numbers seem consistent with the overall opinion of the U.S. in England and our actions concerning Iraq? Do English citizens think we are a bunch of war breathing, blood thirsty barbarians?

I think that Blair is acting exactly like he should considering that England is our best ally. If the tables were turned, and England was in any danger whatsoever, I think the U.S. would be in full support of England and would be ready to go to war the very next day. Is England having second thoughts in supporting our military action in Iraq?

My Response, although I can't speak for the 50 million other Brits.

The report you so on T.V indeed gives the correct % of what people think, however don't read to much in to this. 28% think that the USA want to attack Iraq because of the oil supply. My response to those people is Bollocks. Although the oil factor does come in to the equation it appears on about page 49 of 50 for reasons to attack. I don't feel most Brit's feel that Blair would do anything that Bush asked for as in going to war, however what I feel our feeling is, is that we always come out in support of America and never against. Once more my answer to those Brit's is, it is clear that we see the world and policies the same. Like most things in this world, costs are always compared with the $ and the ?, not the f-ucking yen or french franc. As in world terms our countries are at the fore front and therefore always in the worlds eye.

When America are seen to act with militry, Europeans say that once more they are pushing their force around. What I feel is that without power, leadership we would all be pawns in a sea of whales.

As to 75% not thinking America is dealing with Iraq in the correct manner, this is only because we all know that with or without the UN's blessing America will attack. AND SO THEY SHOULD. Hussain has been dodging bullets for the last five years, while he lives it up he's left his fellow country men, women and children to die of starvation and worse still as a human shield against attacks.

The rest of the world are a piece of shit, they want no part in this. If the UN say it's war, look what forces and weapons the other countries would give out, the same as last time SWEET F-CK ALL.

Blair has said he would attack without the UN's agreement. Buddy, those of us that understand our plight we are with you 100%, the others are just ignorant. As for second thoughts, what are they.

I live in Suffolk in the UK and are friendly with many American Air Force people. We have two bases 5 miles and 1o miles from where I live. Look them up , LAKENHEATH, and MILDENHALL.

Last time the fighter and small bombers came from Lakenheath when they attacked Iraq. The noise of the jet engines as they fly overhead gives you a sense of passion and pride, knowing that the B--tards on the receiving end are in for a hell of a reception. However, once the noise dies down you wish that they all return safely.

:firing: :firing: :firing: :firing: Take that IRAQ

Phuck the French.

Phuck the French.

You guys are right. The Germans were rolling into Paris and what were the Frogs doing? Packing up the artwork, and getting out.

If they were rollin' on Chicago like that we'd have been digging trenches and loading our guns.

They've been occupied more times than yo mama.

more french bashing

more french bashing

To All:
In view of their stand on current international issues, French bashing has
become vogue in the Pentagon and throughout the Navy. The following are a
few insights that have come my way that I forward without personal
endorsement on my part but some certainly generated a roar.

The French:
1. They lost the Gallic Wars to an Italian.
2. They then lost the French Italian wars to another Italian earning the
distinction of being the only country to loose two wars to Italians.
3. Thirty Years War- France is technically not involved but manages to get
invaded anyway.
4, 5, & 6. War of Augsburg/King William's War/French and Indian Conflict-
Lost, Lost and Lost- but France claimed all as a tie; inducing Frogophiles
the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.
7. War of the Spanish Succession - Lost
8. American Revolution- In a move that will become quite familiar to future
Americans, France claims a win even though most of the fighting is done by
the American colonists. This is later termed the "deGaulle Syndrome" and
leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare: "France only wins when America
does most of the fighting."
9. French Revolution - WON! Primarily due to the fact that the opponent
was French also.
10. Napoleonic Wars - Eventually lost
11. Franco-Prussian War - Lost
12. WW I - See second rule of French Warfare
13. WW II - Lost then Vichy French joined the Nazis and then they lost
again.
14. War in Indochina - Lost.
15. Algerian Rebellion - Lost.
Do we Americans really want the French on our side?

Some other insights:
What did the Mayor of Paris say to the German Army as they entered during WW
II? "Table for One Hundred Thousand?"
What do you call 100,000 Frenchmen with their hands up? The French Army.
Why don't they have fireworks at Euro Disney? Because every time they shoot
them off, the French try to surrender.
Why do the French plant trees along their roads? Because the Germans
like to march in the shade.
Three guys, an Englishman, a Frenchman and an American are out walking along
the beach together one day. They come across a lantern and a genie pops out
of it. "I will give you each one wish," says the genie. The American says,
"I am a farmer, my dad was a farmer, and my son will also farm. I want the
land to be forever fertile in America." With a blink of the genie's eye,
'FOOM' - the land in America was forever made fertile for farming. The
Frenchman was amazed, so he said, "I want a wall around France, so that no
one can come into our precious country." Again, with a blink of the genie's
eye, 'POOF' - there was a huge wall around France. The Englishman asks, "I'm
very curious. Please tell me more about this wall. The genie explains,
"Well, it's about 150 feet high, 50 feet thick and nothing can get in or
out." The Englishman placed his wish and says, "Fill it up with water."
There was a Frenchman, an Englishman and Claudia Schiffer sitting together
in a carriage in a train going through Provence. Suddenly the train went
through a tunnel and as it was an old style train, there were no lights in
the carriages and it went completely dark. Then there was a kissing noise
and the sound of a really loud slap. When the train came out of the tunnel,
Claudia Schiffer and the Englishman were sitting as if nothing had happened
and the Frenchman had his hand against his face as if he had been slapped
there. The Frenchman was thinking: "The English fella must have kissed
Claudia Schiffer and she missed him and slapped me instead." Claudia
Schiffer was thinking: "The French fella must have tried to kiss me and
actually kissed the Englishman and got slapped for it." And the Englishman
was thinking: "This is great. The next time the train goes through a tunnel
I'll make another kissing noise and slap that French bastard again."

There's a lot of talk about France not supporting the USA on Iraq. Not to
worry. It has been said that ...
"Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an
accordion."

COMPLETE BOOK OF FRENCH MILITARY HISTORY

- War with Henry V - Agincourt etc- French lost because they only outnumbered the starving English by about 20 to 1and because the English cheated and put common soldiers up against French nobles.

- Gallic Wars: Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.

- Hundred Years War: Mostly lost, saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman."

-Italian Wars: Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians.

- Wars of Religion: France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots.

- Thirty Years War: France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.

- War of Devolution: Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.

-The Dutch War: Tied -just.

-War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War: Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.

-War of the Spanish Succession: Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since.

- American Revolution: In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France only wins when America does most of the fighting."

- French Revolution: Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French.

- The Napoleonic Wars: Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule - see 100 years War above!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.

- The Franco-Prussian War: Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.

- World War I: Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by Britain and, eventually, the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American and British forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.

-World War II:

- Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.

- Battle For France 1940 - air battle - France (de Gaulle) complained bitterly about the British withdrawing their 10 fighter squadrons to defend the UK while the far more numerous French fighter squadrons were somewhere down south just in case they might be needed later - like the French navy which could have sailed off to the UK and joined a few heroic "free French" but decided to stay in France and surrender. Then they complained when the Brits sink them in port.

- Libya - (1943?) - French forces fire on US troops (then surrender before they get annihilated) as they move into North Africa on there way to help liberate France!

- War in Indochina: Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu.

- Algerian Rebellion: Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.

- War on Terrorism: France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fail after he takes refuge in a McDonald's.

Breaking news!

France to Join the War on Terrorism After All

Paris - In a stunning reversal of policy, French President Jacques Chirac announced that the French government will support the War on Terrorism after all. Five hundred soldiers from the elite Abandonnement du Field d'Honneur Battalion--French Surrender Battalion--of the Legion D'etrangere--(Foreign Legion)--are in the process of shipping out to Iraq where they will assist the elite Iraqi Republican Guards in their inevitable surrender to the overwhelming might of the American Armed Forces. "Eet ees important to be haughty and insufferable when surrendering," said General Philippe de Peepee, (who's father was an 'amster and whose mother smelled of elderberries) the Commanding Officer of the Surrender Battalion, who has personally surrendered in over 200 battles going back to Dien Bien Phu in 1954. "We French are ze world masters at surrendering, n'est ce pas, not like you arrogant Americans who never surrender. Ha, I spit on your filthy American victories." President Chirac also announced that his government will be sending 3,000 advisors from the elite Force du Collaborateur Francaise--French Collaboration Force--to assist the Iraqis in collaborating with the Americans while pretending to be part of a non-existent resistance movement.

I will not slam on the french simply because of french toast. even though it is not even french.

But i will slam on your politicians, and all others that seem to think sadaam is now suddenly mother theresa.

iraq has been in breach of un resolutions since 1991, this is not a pipe dream this is a total fact. he has slaughtered his own people. ask the kurds where family members are. they have no idea because they have just vanished without a trace. 100,000 + kurd men and boys gone. mass murdered and the un does nothing. sadaam is not a leader he is a dictator. his people are repressed. because if they speak up or defy him, death is certain.

the un has stood by for 13 years and done absolutely nothing. now when we have a president in office who has some balls. are so called allies seem to have forgotten who has been buttering thier bread for some many dam years. you have also seem to have forgotten what is the meaning of democracy and freedom. of course when all other nations have been conquered at some point in time it is easy to forget. but not here, we never forget !! DON'T TREAD ON ME!

Yes we are the bad asses on the block. why are we the big brother for everyone. because we want others to have the god given right we all deserve. FREEDOM!!!!! this isn't only about oil or weapons . it also about people of a country who have not tasted freedom ever. and a man who actually would try to rule the world if he could. but this ok by some of these idiots in the un.

besides that the un is a dam joke anyway. half these dam countries have been harboring terrorist for years and still are.

so frenchy let me ask you this. what if we stand back and listen to your leaders garble about this and that. how war should be the last result. and we give sadaam some more time then all of a sudden a terrorist rolls into paris one day and detonates an anthrax bomb or slams a plane into that pointy tower you have and releases some nerve agent and they kill a few 1,000 or more. what are you gonna do? run and hide again? no your gonna make a call to the good ole U.S.A. except this time maybe we'll be the ones with a deaf ear.

so instead of protesting war, maybe you all should read the constitution and realize that what we have others don't. freedom carries no price tag. it's what all people of the world deserve. AND THAT IS WHAT THE U.S. WILL ALWAYS PRESERVE. without or without your support or anyone elses!

Wales (United Kingdom)
Stuman and everybody else....

This is the United Kingdom we live in over here, and not England. There are thousands of Welsh, Scots and Northern Irish out there as well.

My brother was in the original Gulf War. I was not even a teenager at the time, but my memories are of my mother crying on Xmas eve, not knowing whether my brother was safe out there. It is safe to say (since my brother does not see Madjacks) that my brother has not been the same person ever since that war. Although psychologically damaged, he has also inherited an unknown heart condition, which doctors are outting down to possible gulf war syndrome.

My point being is that I wish war on no person, no matter what race.

I can remember my brother coming home, and he kept a load of photographs he took while he was out there. Anyway my mother found these photos, and many were of dead Iraqi soldiers. UK and Us troops had mocked these dead Iraqis by putting packets of penecilin in their hand to create a mock photograph as if the Iraqis had commited suicide. This was just the normal piss take out there in that war. However, my mother found those photos and went mad....her point being is that even the Iraqi soldiers have family at home.

Yes I think the general consensus here in the UK is that Tony Blair will suck George Bush' dick if he had to, but I dont think that we consider the Americans as blood thirsty barbarians. Your coiuntry was dealt a massive tragedy, and something had to be done. However, the fact that Bush is a Texan, does create this cowboy image that all he wants to do is fight a war.
