Where it is real F ing COLD
Ok, I am in pretty good shape but my work schedule and leisure schedule has kept me away from the gym for about 3 months now. Want to try working out from home but I do not want a bo flex or anything like that.
Is it really as good as advertised? I already know that I will not be able to do it everyday. About 5 days a week.

I gather that I need a Pull up bar, dumb bell, and chairs. How is this program on your joints? My knees ache every once in a while and running on a treadmill hurts like a SOB.

I found a site where I can get the program for $79 but I see it being bid on ebay for more than that. Is there 2 different kinds? I didn't notice anything.

I find the diet is harder than the workouts. I got the dumbells and the bands. I didn't want to put the pullup bar on my door.

Get the pull up bar and free weights.

Yes it's as good as advertised. If you can only do 5 and not 6 workouts a week consider dropping the yoga. I actually started to enjoy it but at 90 mins, if you are going to drop one I'd drop that one.

It's not bad on your joints. That's why I originally did it, I was bored/tired of just running or using an elliptical. I liked the variety, and doing it from home they really are about an hour so time wise it's realistic. The plyo workout requires jumping, etc but you can do it at your own pace.

Figure the diet would be a challenge. I eat whatever, whenever and knock down beers but I drink lite cause if I didn't I would be obese. It is catching up with me since I have not been working out in a while (longest I have not gone in 5 years)

The bands are just as good as the bar??

I've never used the bar so its hard for me to tell. The bands seem to work pretty well though.

I found that I can work out at the gym (at my office) get a full and more complete workout in, in shorter time than the 90x routines.

Even though it is at your home it is still 1.5-2 hours 6 or 7 days a week.

Based on the lifts and the diet (and my limited knowledge) it seems that it is very tough to loose fat while gaining strength.

Also, while doing p90x my push ups and pull ups when way up. However when going back to the more "heavy" weight workouts I found that my top end strength went waaaaay down. So what I mean is it helped endurance but over all top end strength went just as far down.

Good luck. You'll do great. For me it simply took way too long, even though it was at home, and my strength went down.

Oh, get a pull up bar and use a chair in the beginning if you need to. Also get some dumbbells. Those bands are just not the same and I've tried them all. For me if I was going to use all of that gear I might as well go back to the gym at work.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

The only thing tough on joints will be plyometrics. Bands are great but won't do you much good substiituting it for pullups. Yoga is something I skip so I get 5 days in. Get a pullup bar can get one cheap at walgreens and if you can only do 4-5 pullups thatsfine program will develop overall strenght overtime and if you stick with it they become easy. As faar as dumbbells you will find out real quick you don't need anything heavy. The block is great mine goes to 65lbs you just pull out pin for your weight. Like anything you want results you have to commit its tough. There is a program by Tony Horton thats called power 90 its easier and is what most people should do before p-90x. Its a 90 day workout also $59.95. You can look at it at teambeachbody or email me can see my results at teambeachbody.com/franksgym

You are correct in that P90x isn't meant to increase max lifts, etc. It's meant for overall health, strength, flexibility.

I was a D1 college swimmer and had 3% body fat at one time and after doing p90x I never felt so fit 'overall'...I really felt faster, quicker, more agile.

It does take commitment but just about anything in life worth doing does too. I didn't miss a day for 7 weeks and then lost my father unexpectedly. That was 2 years ago this summer, perhaps it's time to get back on the horse and get on the p90 train.

I did the P45 X..........got bronchitis half way through and never went back.

Not because it didn't work, but it definitely takes a real commitment. I too cut out the yoga, however my flexibility is what I have got less of than anything the older I get. It's probably the last thing I should have dropped, but again as said earlier, it's an hour and a half. Before doing it I used to laugh at women who said they did yoga, but not anymore, this shits kicks your ass. I've never worked so hard not lifting anything.

I really want to get back at it as well, but not sure Spring/Summer is the best time to realistically start for me.

Also, I struggled with the pull up bar, but think it is much better than the bands.

Good luck.

p90x is a good workout. if you can stick through it, you will look and feel noticably better at the end.

I hate it but I love it. I had been doing P90x since February, although not strictly adhering to the regimen they lay out. The past couple of weeks I have been doing fartleks and the Spartacus workout. Spartacus, as a cardio workout is tougher than cardio x and ranks right up there with PlyoX, maybe even a little tougher when you use weights. And as others have said the nutrition side is the hardest to adhere to.

The gym thing was great at first but it gets boring plus sometimes there is a wait for equipment when I go. I live 20 miles from the gym but it is only about a mile out of my home from work so 4 PM is the only time that I go.

I can do 10 pull ups now. I really am not using this to burn a ton of fat. I just want to get back into shape and feel great. I am about 8 to 10 pounds overweight and have acquired most of that over the past 3 months., I am 5 - 10. 185 - 190 lbs. My weight fluctuates daily cause I have a ravenous appetite and like beer. I am lucky to be where I am at cause my friends who do the same are much more overweight than me. My metabolism is much higher and I am a type of guy who don't sit still. I do not require a full 8 hours of sleep. 6 does me quite fine, I wonder how this will affect me later in life?

For these goals, I suggest light weight training with high reps, run 3-4 times a week, and learn to count calories for ur diet. Rough figuring, I think if u can up ur fruits and vegetables and consume about 2300 calories a day, u will lose that weight in about 4 weeks. For ur goals, I think P90X is not what want to do. If u hate running, substitute spinning or maybe even the elliptical. GL!
