I am an insurance adjuster and if u have a HO policy the only items they will cover are items that you use for personal use. If u want to lie to the insurance company that is the only way u will be covered for the loss. Business supplies and equiptment are not covered under homeowners policies. If I was you its not a huge claim so I would say that you use the equiptment to do yark work around your house... do not tell them that you use this equiptment for business or you will not be covered. If u tell them they are for personal use.... chances are since it is such a small claim you should be able to recoup ACV actual cash value for the items that were stolen, this means the value which you paid for them- depreciation. Also you may be able to recover the depreciartion upon replacement of the items that were stolen.
Example:
Lawnmower cost $2,500- $1000 depreciation
insurance payment $1500
when you actually go an buy the new mower you can tuen in the recept to recover the deprciation so they will then cut you a check for the additional $1000

good luck but DO NOT tell them this was for business use I promise you that you will not be covered.... remember the items were for personal use only!!!!! say you own a family farm or something good luck

and if OS doesn't tell them it's business, how would they know unless they ask? i think there's a shot that they don't ask that question

good luck, OS, this really sucks for you. i hope everything turns out okay for you.

Most policies would cover like $1,000 for misc. business stuff in your office but that's it. But for you, who works from home now that is a whole new ball game too.

Your personal property on your HO is covered anywhere in the world. That's why your FIL got his covered. Old School couldn't even lie here really....uh yea, I use 3 super mowers and 5 blowers and trailer for my personal lawn:nono: They ain't buyin that shit.

I think they will ask especially if these mowers and tools were those that a person would use to do comercial work. A John Deere home edition is much different than a heavy duty John Deere farm edition tractor from what I understand. Just make sure u have some piece of large property that you can show them you work on that some friend of family member will sign an affidavidt saying you work for free for personal use. they may make u sign an affidavidt too and if your company is a DBA or LLC they will see this and inquire good luck again hope you have a good insurance company.

thanks for the input and positive vibes..

have gotten some phone input as well and really appreciate the responses.

I will see what happens Mon. but I don't expect much good to come from my visit to my Nationwide Agent given the circumstances..

Nationwide has insured cars and homes for my grandfather, mother and me for over 50 years and I have no complaints..

"It is was it is"..a failure by me to take the precautions to make sure my hard earned investments were protected..

If nothing else comes from this lets hope that those who may think certain things are covered make sure that they are..

A very expensive lesson for me..

We lock everything up starting today..

Yea right. You don't spend much time around insurance do you:mj07:

No I don't, but My Father in law has a place in Florida with no garage. He parks on a slab of concrete next to his property. He had something similar happen and was cut a check for his loss up to 5k. Homeowners with State Farm covered him.

Once again OS, good luck. My prayers are with you my friend.

eff it. just go out and get all new equipment, THE BEST, finance the whole thing, and just charge an extra $5 per lawn and put it in the nut.

justify it to your customers by telling them they will be getting a better job with the better equipment ;)

already checking Craigslist ..

thieves know me...

even knew where I kept the back-pack blowers and backup Toro in the garage..and stole those along w/all the machines w/the trailer..

Time to tighten up..Back to the 70 Hour work week to recoup the loses.

hell no! get an extra set of equipment, an additional trailor, hire 2 new men, and you work 25 hours a week by spending all your time getting new business and scheduling jobs :D

turn this negative into a big positive.

Jack.. considering that exact course of action..

actually once my customers hear of this they will be pleading w/me to be of some help..

I have a great customer base of super folks..

I will be ok..I over came 20 years of drunk to put this together..I will not let this setback keep me from my goal of ice tea and bass fishing in my golden years..

Homeowners policies that I work with HO2 and HO3 will cover your property stolen anywhere in the world. However, there is a limit on amount of property used for business purposes stolen from the residence premises. ($2500 on special and broad form homeowners policies) Fortunately, the deductible will be absorbed by the amount of your loss exceeding the special policy limit. The trailer is out, as all vehicles requiring registration are excluded.

Hope this is helpful. Send me a copy of your policy and I'll let you know exactly what to expect.

So do you have people that work for you OR have worked for you in the past.

If they know you and actually want that kind of equipment.....then I would be looking at some of my past employees. Just a thought.....
