The formula to box 6 horses for a $1 triple is:

6x5x4=$120

5 horses would be:

5x4x3=$60

for 10 horses:

10x9x8=$720

and so on....

BTW, those formulas work as long as each position has exactly the same nos. Like 1,2,3/1,2,3/1,2,3 which is 3x2x1=6 tickets.
Even if you make one substitution... the formula gets a little hairy. Like 1,2,3/1,2,3/1,2,4.

It becomes 3x2x2 (not 1 cause there's a new horse in that 3rd spot.

Ok, getting back to studying horses not numbers now.
