Amusing (to me anyhow) squirrel story...

Amusing (to me anyhow) squirrel story...

Squirrels are one of the smartest yard critters out there...it is always a battle to figure out a way to keep them out of bird feeder, and lately, my attic.

I live on a heavily treed lot and always enjoy the acrobatics of the bazillions of these little beggars.

Last year I actually coaxed one out of a tree and daily hand fed it peanuts.
It got to the point, I would sit in the hot tub and "Kirby" would come by for a peanut break.
Did not see him next year; Hawk maybe?

Well, after finally getting them out of the attic, I just had to have a little fun revenge.
I noticed that every day, at about 8am certain squirrels would jump from the neighbors tree-line to mine via one method.
They would jump from a tree branch across an open air gap of about 30 inches to a branch on a tree in my yard...

I watched in amazement day in day out (not much to do when you are retired) as they would precisely jump just enough to do this leap, it was routine to them, day in, day out.

One day I was trimming trees and thought, what would happen if I trimmed about 6 inches from that key "landing" branch?

Well I did, and the next morning me and my Black Lab were sitting out reading the morning paper about 8am when i heard the "chirping" of squirrels.

I looked up at that shortened branch and saw a squirrel launch on what it thought was a routine jump.
The look on its face and the wildly flailing arms
was priceless, almost like a human reaction, saying "F*CK" me.....

It fell about 15 feet, landed with a plop next to my startled lab, got up shook itself off and marched off...

I about split a gut....wished I had captured the moment for you-tube
