But 3 times in 4 years will politically look real bad. All sorts of backroom deals happen but I dont see a way for Fiesta to get out. Would Orange take Ohio State and let Fiesta have Penn State to make it look good? Could well work to Oregon's advantage.

funny u say that sun....fiesta offered orange cash to take ohio st with 2nd pick so they could take penn st 3rd and have a nd vs penn st fiesta bowl....from what ive heard orange told fiesta to fuk off and they dont pick the oranges teams

That is why the whole system is screwed up. ND wont get punished for a game like tonight, but another team would. To me USC and Texas are clearly 1-2 and a shocking less wouldnt change that. But the way the system is now either would be out.

Texas has no excuse to lose Saturday but thyat raises another problem. You cant have a system like this but have the Big 11 and Pac 10 not play title games. It is one less hurdle for those teams. It probably cost Neb 96 and KState 98 national championships.

penn.st got screwed on time by a mich time keeper if you saw the game, and it was shown over and over on fos sports and espn that game should of ended and penn.st should realyy be 11-0 but hey they are happy to made the turn around they did. but to me if sc goes down which i really don't think so i still say with 1 loss they have earned the right to defend their championship what ever happens last game, look at the streak they have so i think they are safe and should be in like them or not they are the best till someone beats them, and i dislike usc more then any other team in the us think scott had a lot to do with that:D

im a pac-10 guy so i hate sc as much as anybody.....but....they are a fking maching and carroll makes all the right moves and adjustments.......they are a mini nfl team playing vs college teams

another interesting thing i read today.....everybody loves to bash sc's defense as being soft, etc....and while there are 40th (or so) in total defense....i believe they are #1 in to margin (or turnovers forced).......

just something that get's left out of the equation when talking about sc's defense

A bit of a warped stat. USC is always way ahead so the other team is going to press and thus have more turnovers. I would hardly say USC forced those Fresno ints, they were just bad throws. In any event, USC in part also leads because they dont commit turnovers. I think only UCLA and Florida have committed fewer turnovers than USC.

But when you consider how many points USC has given up, it tells you they are in serious trouble if they dont force turnovers or commit some, because aside from the turnovers they dont stop the other team's offense as much as a top team should.

I'll bite. Moving from unranked to #5 in the country doesnt matter though huh? Funny how tilted the facts can be depending on your views. Grab a tissue box bro cause you are gonna be disappointed.

fletcher, I agree with you completely. Auburn is playing better than anyone right now. But Ohio St. deserves the bid ahead of AU based on a tougher schedule I think. But AU is MUCH BETTER than Notre Dame and it is a shame that they get to go to BCS bowl based on their name. Fresno is garbage, they showed it tonight.

ND is garbage, they showed it tonight.

Ohio St. deserves the first at-large and Auburn deserves the #2. Notre Dame is not that good, and Oregon plays a weak schedule in the terribly weak pac-10.

The pac-10 is a garbage conference just like the big east. No more gifts for going 10-1 in a terrible conference.

What exactly has Auburn done that is so impressive to claim they are playing better than anyone right now?

:yup

Ohio St. #2 SOS
AU #66 SOS :mj02:

But AU is MUCH BETTER than Notre Dame and it is a shame that they get to go to BCS bowl based on their name.

Why? ND has 2 losses and played #20 ranked SOS. ND also played 4 of thier first 5 games on the road. AU played #66 ranked SOS and started the season with 5 straight home games! :mj07:

How did AU do outside the mighty tough SEC? Not good. They lost to the only BCS opponent they faced (G-Tech) @AUBURN and beat the $hit out of 2 directional schools. BIG WHOOP! But they sure look great in tough SEC play. Damn that conf. is so tough!

Fresno is garbage, they showed it tonight.

Thats funny. USC beat the $hit out of Arkansas, a team who competed with every single SEC team. Damn that conf. is so tough! USC needed all 4 quarters to beat Fresno St. USC needed the 1h to put up 42pts on Arkansas and a 32pt halftime lead.

ND is garbage, they showed it tonight.

WRONG! If ND is garbage, what is Auburn? :mj10:

Oregon plays a weak schedule in the terribly weak pac-10.

:nono: :nono: :nono:

Oregon played the #31 ranked SOS.
Auburn played the #66 ranked SOS.

The pac-10 is a garbage conference just like the big east.

Then what does that make the SEC? :mj10:

WOW. :mj07: :mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

I would love to hear these statements QUALIFIED and not just thrown out there with no backup. The BEST team in the SEC nearly blew a 17 point lead to ARKANSAS on Friday. ND almost blew it tonight. Just because a team ALMOST blows it, does NOT mean they are 'garbage". Christ, man, USC almost blew it 3 times this year, does that mean they are garbage?? There is NO logic to qualify those remarks

au is like a little brother or a liberal, his only answer is

the sec is the best....why.....because i say so.....oh and the pac-10 sucks....why because i say so

dont ever argue with him because facts are irrelevant to him

the sec is very average this year....he'll never admit it
the sec plays garbace ooc games....he'll never admit it
auburn has won one occ game vs a bcs team in the past 8 year....he'll never admit it

The BCS was set up to qualify the top 2-4 teams to determine a National Champion, but the Bowl system is still intact to make money for the NCAA and the schools so they still want the best match ups to bring in the fans and the MONEY.

So after the top 2 match ups or even just one and two if you were the bowl committee, would you rather have Oregon or Notre Dame or Ohio St or some other school like Oregon that cannot compare in filling the stands like a ND or a Ohio St etc.

The good ole boys will still take a less deserving team to fill the seats and make money. :scared

Oregon would have deserved it, but with QB Clemmons breaking his leg, not so sure. They were really rolling with him in there. The backups haven't lost a game, but are not on his level and I dont think they would beat ND, OSU or PSU with those back ups trading snaps. A bowl committee that wanted to take ND, has a built in excuse that UO w/o their starting QB is not the same team. Maybe he'll be back for the bowl, but it will be thrown out there by the committee when they get passed over.

And, the one thing I think has become crystal clear in this thread is that my dog has more knowledge about college football played outside the state of Alabama than AU2001.

let's see....ND has beaten one ranked team and three teams with winning records (Michigan, Navy and BYU...real powerhouses). They have also lost at home to a 5-6 team.

on the subject of Auburn's cupcake record next year.......

Sept 2 - Washington State (Home)
Sept 9 - Miss State (Away)
Sept 16 - Temple (Home)
Sept 23 - Tulane (Home)
Sept 30 - South Carolina (Away)
Oct 7 - Arkansas (Home)
Oct 14 - Florida (Home)
Oct 21 - LSU (Home)
Oct 28 - Ole Miss (Away)
Nov 4 - OPEN
Nov 11 - Georgia (Home)
Nov 18 - Alabama (Away)

I'll trade with ND or Southern Cal in a heartbeat.

Scott all I want to know is where did you get ND has the 20th ranked SOS. It must be made based upon named teams only. Lets look at ND's schedule:

Pitt, big name no bite. Mich...decent team but not their best. Mich. St....decent when they played ND, but fell apart. Washington...again big name but when have they be relevant in college football. Purdue... mid level Big 10 team and always will be. USC...enough said, top dog now. BYU hasn't been a factor in college football since 1984. Tenn...probably this years biggest disappointment. Navy...come on...my wife was in the navy and served in desert storm, she'd even tell you Navy couldn't beat half the Mac, Con. USA or the WAC. Syracuse has been declining since 2000 and has almost hit rock bottom. Finally Stanford which is again a big name that hasn't been relevant to college football in years.

The BCS contract is what it is...ND 9-2 and top 12 then their in. Does it mean they are the most deserving....NO. I'm not being a basher I'm just being objective...Oregon and OSU at this time should be more deserving...oregon only one loss to USC and OSU who has played better competition than ND. I'll be the first to admit ND is fun to watch and that is what this is all about. Who is going to move the TV meter more....ND!

Be fair list who OSU has beaten and how you rank those teams, and do the same for oregon. Neither is going to blow you away. I'm not saying ND is more deserving but I don't think its clear cut like you all make it. Actually I would rate the better team as OSU than ND than oregon. The whole SOS argument is a bunch of bs, I don't buy it
