Because you are wrong. I know this case.

Actually, the Fulton County DA was in no way "licking his chops" as you say to go after Ray Lewis. In fact, he cut a deal with Ray to drop the murder charges in exchange for testimony against his two friends as well as a guilty plea to obstruction.

So Ray Lewis was in no way innocent as some are claiming. He pled guilty to obstruction of justice, namely lying to police.

He WAS licking his chops as you will read.

He cut the deal to Ray to save face and get a conviction on SOMETHING.

Ray would have been crazy not to accept that deal. No risk of a bad jury decision at all this way.

Ray told everybody in the limo to "keep quiet, don't say anything", true. But, we are all told to not talk to the police without an attorney, whether innocent or guilty.

Ray was worried about his career and the contract he had just signed. He didn't want to lose any of that.

You're right, Ray testified against his 2 buds and the jury even found them NOT GUILTY.

Does he know something and not saying? Maybe. Maybe.

Tough Times for Prosecutor In an Atlanta Murder Trial

Until Monday, Mr. Howard, the Fulton County district attorney, was spearheading the murder prosecution of the Baltimore Ravens star Ray Lewis and two other men for two stabbing deaths in a street brawl on Super Bowl night here. It was to be the biggest case of Mr. Howard's career and one of the most closely watched in Atlanta in years.

The case held national interest because of Mr. Lewis's fame as an all-pro linebacker and local interest because the killings had taken place in Buckhead, a glitzy night life district where violent crime has generated citywide concern. Though it had been four years since he had prosecuted a case, Mr. Howard decided to try this one himself. It would put him on national television in the midst of his first re-election campaign.

But today, Mr. Lewis took the stand in Superior Court, not as a defendant, but as a witness who had pleaded guilty to a mere misdemeanor and been sentenced to one year's probation. Over the weekend, after watching his case against Mr. Lewis crumble in the hands of unreliable witnesses, Mr. Howard offered his celebrity defendant a deal: the reduced misdemeanor charge in exchange for Mr. Lewis's testimony against two co-defendants.

Mr. Lewis, 25, who has a four-year, $26 million contract with the Ravens, pleaded guilty to a charge of obstruction of justice stemming from the ''incomplete statement'' he made to the police, his lawyer said.

The disintegration of the prosecution's case has become a public embarrassment for the 48-year-old Mr. Howard, with every misstep magnified by intense media coverage. Even those lawyers who say they like him acknowledge that Mr. Howard has had a rough couple of weeks.

''You usually encounter some problems in a prosecution; he just encountered every one of them,'' said Jack Martin, a criminal defense lawyer here. ''What was shocking about this case in my mind was that it wasn't just one witness that fell apart, but all of the witnesses that fell apart.''

While he faces no primary opposition, Mr. Howard, a Democrat, can expect to be reminded of the Lewis trial in the fall. Some here believe his political fate may depend on whether he wins convictions against the two remaining defendants, Joseph Sweeting of Miami and Reginald Oakley of Baltimore.

''There's been some bungling,'' said John M. Turner Jr., one of two lawyers running for the Republican nomination. ''You better believe that will be an issue in my campaign.''

Mr. Howard has other problems, some of his own making, some inherited from his predecessor, Lewis Slaton, who was district attorney for 31 years. Many experienced prosecutors left the office after Mr. Slaton retired three years ago. Although Mr. Howard has nearly doubled the number of lawyers on his staff, their caseloads have continued to explode. While the office's conviction rate has grown under Mr. Howard, himself a former assistant district attorney, many judges are exasperated by their enormous backlogs.

Shortly after the killings, Mr. Howard appeared at a news conference and described Mr. Lewis as ''an active participant in this vicious crime.'' Standing with him was the mayor of Atlanta, Bill Campbell, who portrayed the perpetrators as ''literally dripping with blood.''

With politicians and the police eager to reassure the public that Buckhead was safe, Mr. Howard pushed for a quick indictment of Mr. Lewis and his co-defendants. The move surprised many, particularly given the chaos of the scene outside a nightclub at 4 a.m. and the uncertainty about whether Mr. Lewis wielded a knife, threw punches or simply tried to break up the fight.

the guy can fuckin hit like a truck

don't care what he has done in past after he was said to be innocent. that's what the justice system is for. to name someone guilty or innocent. he was said to be innocent. I am cool with it. trust it was handled appropriately.

have had people in my family deal with shit in which the public made things out to be completely different then what they were....

the fact that anyone can sit here and pretend to know with 100% certainty what the man did or didn't do, or knows or doesn't know, well you are insanse......we will never know.....

if he is a murderer, hope he pays after life....if he isn't, hope those who judge him feel like a dick :toast:

That would be a matter of conjecture. Glad he got his life turned around but there is still two dead individuals.

"Lewis and two friends started a fight with a group of people. Two of the people they were fighting were stabbed and killed. Lewis and his friends were indicted on murder charges. Eventually Lewis turned on his friends offering to testify against them in return for his freedom. Lewis admitted lying to investigators and claimed to had somehow lost the blood covered white suit he was wearing at the time of the killings. He also made financial settlements to the families of both victims.

Im not sure if he actually stabbed anybody but either way he played a vital part in two people losing their lives. He sold out his friends, lied to police, hid evidence (white suit), and paid money to the victims families. Just another case of a pro athlete buying his way out of trouble."

Jack here is what is on wikipedia which is no different than what I posted above.
fight
2 dead
indicted on murder
Bloody white suit never found
testifed against his cohorts for a plea
paid off the family of the 2 dead.
He got off easy. If it had been anyone of us we would be rotting in jail for sure

Great football player though. Go Ravens

Following a Super Bowl XXXIV party in Atlanta on January 31, 2000, a fight broke out between Lewis and his companions and another group of people, resulting in the stabbing deaths of Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar. Lewis and two companions, Reginald Oakley and Joseph Sweeting, were questioned by Atlanta police, and eleven days later the three men were indicted on murder and aggravated assault charges. The white suit Lewis was wearing the night of the killings has never been found. Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard alleged that the bloodstained suit was dumped in a garbage bin outside a fast food restaurant.[36]

Lewis' attorneys, Don Samuel and Ed Garland, of the Atlanta law firm Garland, Samuel & Loeb, negotiated a plea agreement with Howard, the Fulton County District Attorney, where the murder charges against Lewis were dismissed in exchange for his testimony against Oakley and Sweeting, and his guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice.[12] Lewis admitted that he gave a misleading statement to police on the morning after the killings. Superior Court Judge Alice D. Bonner sentenced Lewis to 12 months' probation, the maximum sentence for a first-time offender;[37] and he was fined $250,000 by the NFL, which was believed to be the highest fine levied against an NFL player for an infraction not involving substance abuse.[38] Under the terms of the sentence, Lewis could not use drugs or alcohol during the duration of the probation.

Oakley and Sweeting were acquitted of the charges in June 2000.[39] No other suspects have ever been arrested for the crime.

The following year, Lewis was named Super Bowl XXXV MVP. However, the signature phrase "I'm going to Disney World!" was given instead to quarterback Trent Dilfer.

On April 29, 2004, Lewis reached a settlement with four-year-old India Lollar, born months after the death of her father Richard, preempting a scheduled civil proceeding. Lewis also reached an undisclosed settlement with Baker's family.[39]

Ray who???

As much as I would love to see the Colts sack the crows it will take a miracle for the Rook to do it. If it was Manning then enjoy Miami. Of course Flacco gives us a chance.

Soooooooo....He may not retire this week but if Houston wins, then they go to Denver and Baltimore is nothing but Peyton's bitch.

Any given Sunday.... GO COLTS!!!!!
