WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY
Tue Apr 14 2009 08:44:54 ET

AUSTIN ? Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states? rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

?I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,? Gov. Perry said. ?That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states? rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.?

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas."

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government?s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states? right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

Rick Perry would be YOUR choice if you want 8 more years of Bush's rules!

Think I'll pass on that.

Is this the new flavor of the week for the Greedy ole Party? Strangely this piece of shit sat very quiet as Bush exploded the deficit.
Honestly i don't ever want to see a Texan running a lemon aid stand let alone the country again. this guy sounds like DTB. All the sudden these guys are crawling out from under their self centered beds and worrying about the deficit. It is almost as if they think the rest of us are as stupid as they are. good fuking grief.

Less than 6 weeks after the massacre at the Alamo (Casualties: 400 Mexicans/200 Texans), the Mexicans were crushed by the Sam Houston-led Texas Army in the Battle of San Jacinto (Casualties: 800 Mexicans/ 2 Texans).

I have read a similar quote which makes far more sense than yours.....

"There is no back door at the Alamo. That's why they were heroes."

A quote from a Texas lawyer from another site

Another example of the Repugs playing to the loony fringe. What the fuck is a "Resolution" regarding the federal government's relation to "state's rights" supposed to accomplish, except feed chum to the thumpers, klansmen and successionists? I would be more receptive to such grandstanding if it occurred during a more dangerous time, such as when the Executive branch of the government was attempting to wrest control of the entire American government from the other coequal branches. But strangley, while just such a scenario was occurring recently, not a peep was heard from the Texas Governor. . .
The fact that the Repug Party feels it advantageous to play to such fringe actors tells me it is happy to remain out of power for quite some time.

It has to be one of the best battles in history, the Battle of San Jacinto, we kicked some ass that day, the element of surprise

As a current resident of Texas - let me tell you something about this state.

It is fucked up to no end.

If it was not for totally up rooting and starting over I would so move back to North Carolina, even back woods Georgia was better than Texas.

The pride of Texans is amazing........... they think nothing ever could be better any where else.

The city of Dallas and surrounding areas is OK but once you get out of the metro area its just miles of flat, under developed and poorly maintained commercial property.

I could go on and on and on but I'll spare myself the novel I could write.

You sound like someone from Mexico that moved to the US and is bitching about it. Get the fuck out if you don't like it. :thefinger If it's that bad then surely packing up your motorhome and moving it back home wouldn't be that hard.

I never say crap about anyone's home state but there is way too many people that like to bag on Texas. Sometimes it's too much. You can say what you want about the Republican party but I'm pretty sure Texas is one of the few states in a good financial situation.
