This season USC is fortunate to get most of their toughest opponents at home. Exact opposite of last years schedule.
I do not put much stock into top 25 polls. Why? SEC! Play 5 $hitty teams, 1 good team, 5 home games and you are top 10 team even with 1 loss. Top 25 is bogus because it focuses too much on wins/losses and not who you play or where you play.
I believe Arkansas is currently ranked in the top 25and Arkansas is tied for 1st is the "mighty" SEC. USC played @ARKY and won 50-14. :hail
UCLA is currently very close to being a top 25 team. Maybe top 25 team when they play USC.
Florida plays TOUGHER teams on the road but USC plays more road games and more BCS teams on the road. USC had 3 of their first 4 games on the road! :scared
Florida 4 road games!
USC 6 road games! :scared
@TN
@AU
@FSU
That is tough. Well maybe not. Playing @AU isn't so tough. USC beat them there with QB making his first career start (23-0) and ARKY just beat them there with freshman QB (27-10). :scared Air Force like Florida took TN down to the wire @TN except AF lost on 2pt try. FSU isn't anything special anymore.
Florida currently has 5 road games: Tennesse, Auburn, Georgia, Vanderbilt, and Florida State. If you want to count Georgia has a home game, you're nuts. That is about as neutral as ground gets. We will also play (assuming we run the table) a conference game...make that 6 road games. 6 games away from our house and we play 13 games; 6 games away from USC and they play 12 games. OK, we get one more at home, anyone would concede that...but who you play on the road, vs. who we play on the road, is the crux of this argument. Our road schedule is 10x harder than yours. Waive your arms in the air about the bad OOC game we play at the end of the year...but the road schedule easily outweighs the USC road schedule.
You say "you're fortunate to play those teams at home;" well we make our schedules years in advance. We schedule certain teams at certain times...its not our fault those schools' football programs falter. Southern Mississippi gives teams fits from year to year and competes for their conference championship year in and year out. UCF is a Florida team and we give them a stage for the rest of football nation to see; they know they wont win, but the whole point is to boost their program and the State of Florida as a football program overall. Wow, you step out and play Nebraska, a team that just about every analyst agrees is severely over-rated and will eventually drop out of the rankings.
Arkansas is a different team from when your team played them. I guarantee that if USC and Arky played again this weekend, the game would be significantly closer, if not an opposite result, from what it was weeks ago. You'll hold your Arky flag for OOC games, yet we'll likely face them in the SEC championship...so our SoS will be boosted just as much as yours.
So if you want to claim UCLA, I'll let you have that...I'll claim FSU and the SEC West champion. SIX ranked opponents; Tennessee, Auburn, FSU, SEC champ all on the road.
Some of the BCS computer polls have USC ranked
first! What a joke! I dont think a single person would do that; saving Californians. Oh wait, nobody significant has! The USA Today Poll gives Florida a first place vote, which I even find overdrawn, but nobody gives anything to USC.
If Florida beats both Auburn and Georgia, Florida will be ranked number two without contention...even with the California bias. USC plays Arizona State and Oregon State; two unranked teams. Florida plays #11 and #16 (or #10 and #14 in your covetted poll). Both of those games are on the road...one of yours is on the road.
You really think USC would
gain votes after October is over, contingent upon Florida beating both teams? Please, if anybody agrees with that...please step forward and explain why, with the USA Today poll only having 49 vote differential, would not swing in favor of the Gators after these two, rough road games compared to USC's two cupcakes.
