If only we could have the folks that have all the answers just join the Police Academy and show everyone how easy it is to make split second decisions and have everything work out perfect each time there's a situation.....So, who's signing up......:shrug:

I'm too old and it's not a profession I would enjoy. I've had to make split decisions before and didn't have a problem with it. Different circumstances obviously, but I don't think law enforcement would be receiving the present scrutiny had it not been grossly perverting it's authority for some time.

No such thing. They're human, they make mistakes. However when there is a large contingent of them all in one situation, maybe during the fifteen minutes of surrounding the car and such, discuss preferred reactions and options. Maybe calmer heads would prevail.
I'm not condemning the police in this instance, I don't know all the facts. Just think sending a dog into subdue the guy might not have been the best choice

Really Hedge? Another educated response. The term pit bull, as I've told you several times, covers several breeds, mixes and the "kinda looks like a pit bull" dogs. Some weigh no more than 30-40 pounds. One-tenth your size, and you think the dog could bring you down? That's like a jackal on a water buffalo.

I'm not sure what was meant by that post, but if I was standing on a bridge and had a 10 foot pole to keep either a box full of puppies or Aurora shooter James Holmes from going over a dam, I'm pretty sure I'd extend the pole to the human being.

See, I wouldn't. I wouldn't extend the pole to save a number of people even if there were no puppies. Hell if it was Dick Cheney I'd probably use the pole to push him under. Then again Dick would probably fight like hell, no way he'd go down without drowning every puppy first.

reading the link provided with the article,I noticed a woman posted in the comments that her vehicle was one that was hit by the "human being" that was fleeing from the po-po....luckily for her,only her vehicle was damaged but it obviously could have been much worse(she could have been injured or killed)..I didn`t read anything indicating that the guy stopped to check and see if she was injured..... I don`t think it`s a stretch to say that it`s pretty obvious that this fellow didn`t give a shit whether he killed anyone in his effort to flee the authorities...and imo,that makes him much worse than some benign b&e burglar(and btw,does anybody believe that that big knife he was looking to chop up the police dog with didn`t accompany him in his burglary activities?...I`m thinking that`s a realistic probablity)......

so given the totality of the circumstances(the bogus puppy killing strawman argument aside),I pretty much lost whatever sympathy I could have mustered for the perp.......same thing could easily happen to one of our wives,mothers,sisters,brothers,fathers or children....
