Walker Calls Democrat Legislators Back Into State

Madison?Today Governor Walker released the following statement:

Out of respect for the institution of the Legislature and the democratic process, I am calling on Senate Democrats to show up to work today, debate legislation and cast their vote. Their actions by leaving the state and hiding from voting are disrespectful to the hundreds of thousands of public employees who showed up to work today and the millions of taxpayers they represent.

Some of our elected officials still don't get it

Maybe the expected sucking sound of Illinois Corp's going north has been put on hold while everyone sees how Bozo and the gestapo handle this

the gestapo is the rest of the state that pays the bulk of the revenue to keep the schools rolling....

Every teacher that called in sick is guilty of fraud.

They cheated the kids out of a day of school. They cheated taxpayers who pay for it. They also put a burdens on many parents not prepared for school closing.

so much for the line about how much they care about the kids

Enough to shut down the schools?

Is that OK with you BBC, not sure of your career or profession, I am glad to have a job and show up every day I can to take care of my employer's business.

Seems like they should just all take off all of their days at once. I am not aware of how many personal days they get, or who manages the workforce in the schools, and why are they allowed to OK enough missing teachers to shut down the school?

IF you are being devil's advocate for entertainment then cheerio , but IF you really think that the entire school system should be beholden to the whims of the teachers then I am shocked:scared

Lets see if they demonstrate tomorrow enough to shut down the schools?

OK, I googled the Madison paper, here is the headline:

"Madison schools to close Friday amid calls for more protests."

from the Wisconsin State Journal:

"Jerry Rosso, superintendent of the Mosinee School District in central Wisconsin, said about 60 percent of his teachers were absent Thursday, forcing him to cancel classes.

About 50 parents called to say they were disappointed the district closed schools."

I don't know that much about this, but based on the 2 minutes that I've heard, they want the ability to continue to keep collective bargaining rights and it seems reasonable. And if people want to take sick days to keep rights that were agreed to and fought for, then I'm okay with shutting down a school that the people don't think is providing much value. . . . . .but I don't care that much about it because the apathetic part of my life has started.

You can go down to the political forum to continue the debate but they might call you some nasty names. Good Luck!

I would think this would be bad time to be walking off the job with unemployment the way it is--

I'd think it wouldn't be hard to replace all these "underpaid" whiners at half the cost--and would quarantee others would think twice about walking off public job.

On the course!
You know, it's funny.

We have tough times all around us, and I see a bunch of people who are "just happy to have a job".

That's great. And that's just what your employer depends on. As long as that goes on, they will strip you of as much as they can.

Now, I can understand the taxpaying citizen not wanting to see their dollars going into someone elses pocket. That is basic nature. By the same token, isn't it basic nature to KEEP what is yours as a worker, too?

Too many people just allow others to walk up, grab their shit away from them, and they do nothing about it. It has become such a way of life for so many of you, that you can't fathom someone standing up for themselves.

I know plenty of people out there hate unions, and think they should have been done away with a long time ago. The funny thing about that is, it's pretty much always the guy who isn't in a union.

I'm 47. A lot of you guys are around the same age as I am. As a kid, people always seemed to want to better their lives. They saw someone with a nice house, and a nice car, and thought, "I want that, too", and they worked for that.

Today, it is the polar opposite. If you have any modicum of success, people hate you. If you only make $12 an hour, you think EVERYONE should be making $12 an hour. Anyone making a decent wage, or having good benefits, "doesn't realize how good they have it", either.

Frankly, it's disgusting.

My father told me when I started looking for work several years ago one very important thing:

"Get a government job."

He told me get in at the highest level you can. If it's Federal, great. If not, go state.....county.....or local.

He told be you give something up in wages, but you get it back in benfits, and people would kill for those benefits.

That certainly seems more true today than ever. Everyone would love those bennies.....but no one wants us to have them.

25,000 people filled the capitol yesterday to be heard. Most of those people were teachers. I thinks the students they represent will still get an education out of this in the end.

It actually would. . . because you'd have to replace them all. . . which is what they're fighting for.

They've negotiated their wages, so that's what they deserve. Why are you trying to cap their wages? I thought you were against that

Unfortunate that the administrators make the big bucks instead of getting some of that dough down to the teachers.

DUH

HOW ABOUT BECAUSE WE /TAX PAYERS ARE THE ONES FOOTING THE BILL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

--by your rule we should double those salaries why hold them back--the more the better--right>

SHEEEZ

it's like Walker told Gumby--

"We are focused on balancing our budget. It would be wise for the government and others in Washington to focus on balancing their budgets, which they are a long way off from doing."

Unbelievable the amount of people in our society who think no one has any responsibilty to not spend twice what they take in-

Seriously --how/why does a person even discuss issues with people who could less about debt/defaults/insolvency--over expanding gov payrolls.

Where it is real F ing COLD
130K is doing quite well in the state of Wisconsin. I am a bit torn.. I am for the teachers because I think they are the ones who have had to fight the most to get where they are and to keep it. Against most other state employees. Know a few who get the best benefits, great pension, many many vacation days, and can retire at 55 for sampling grain for the state. WTF? Is it jealousy maybe but regardless it is not spending money wisely.

Right behind you
Are you saying that it ain't?

I sure thought it was...

Just jerking doggie's chain since he posted some Michelle Maglalang screed about Wisconsin pay .

You can trust doggie to always find some right-wing crappo to try to prove his point.

Here's the truth about Wisconsin teacher's pay -

Starting salary: $25,222, 49th in the USA
Average salary $46,390, 20th in the USA

http://teacherportal.com/salary/Wisconsin-teacher-salary

No, I don't think that's much money.
