I think Heleanth noted the most heated issue...the NFL wants to add teams of officials so they have more to draw from in order to weed out the poor performers.
To simply say the NFL has alot of money so just pay them is not the point. The union, and you can equate this to the lack of evaluation of teachers based on student outcomes, wants to avoid anything that might cause the bad officials to actually have some action taken based on their performance.
I hope the NFL doesn't give in on that point. Coaches, players and all of us have that built into our job. For some reason, those represented by unions fight tying results to peformance but, contiue to have their hand out for a bigger piece of the pie.
