Republicans are real big war heroes my ass! Carter served. Did Nixon?

Who led us into the Great Depression? A Republican. Who led us out of it and through WW2? The greatest Prez of the 20th Century, FDR!

snake plissken quote:

"I believe in supporting our President whether Republican or Democratic he is the leader of our nation. It is OK to disagree and in a mature manner debate issues but to disrespect him is just not right. I felt the same way about Clinton"

i agree with gw, well said.

imo, fdr & truman were two of our greatest presidents.

I think I'll repost my different views here since it answers a lot of questions pro and con.--and lots a good references to debate.

In going over papers today itis amazing the different views on state of union.

State of union high-lights from AFP

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...xt_040121064917

How the Dems reported it
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...ts_040121084355

How the terrorist network (aljazeera) reported it.
http://english.aljazeera.net/HomePage

The gallop poll report

Speech watchers in a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll gave Bush high marks for his policies on terrorism and taxes. He was most effective in changing minds on Social Security (news - web sites) and health care. Before the speech, 47% thought his Social Security policies would move the country in the right direction; that rose to 59% after the speech. The percentage who felt his health care policies would move the country in the right direction rose to 63% from 48%. The poll of 381 people reflected a viewing audience sympathetic to Bush, with 46% Republican, 28% independent and 26% Democrat.

Will add to this a quote by Clark
And Wesley Clark (news - web sites), a leading contender for the Democratic nomination, said Bush had created his own "Axis of Evil" two years after coining the phrase in a previous State of the Union report to describe countries that threaten the United States.

This is same fellow that "promised" if elected there would be no terrorist attack on U.S. soil.--he just didn't say how on earth it was possible for anyone to make such guarantees.

One thing I always miss in these political posts. While I always see people who do not like someone. I rarely see them say who they prefer and why. I would be curious to see opinions of qualities people see in alternative candidates. Any care to elaborate?

I think it effects a lot more people than that. Sorry I may be a prude, but I think marriage is for a man and a woman. What about health care costs.

dtb,

i just read the links that you posted. i'm not surprised by how the respective outfits reporterd on bush's speech. we know that poilitics is all spin in order to benefit the spinners point of view. jack said that bush's sppech was bs. all speeches performed by politicians going back to the beginning, to a certain degree are all bs. their speeches are all geared to what they think the people want to hear. and the people who are against that politician will spin to their side.

that said, one of things that i liked about bush's speech is that there will be communication stations in the middle east to rebut aljazeera's propaganda.

the more wesley clark will be given a bigger stage to the public, the more he will be exposed as a fraud & a nut job. sometime, either in 2001 or 2002 clark gave a speech praising bush, cheney & rumsfeld for their actions in fighting terrorism. when clark found out that the feeling wasn't mutual, he ran to the democratic party. nobody can tell me that his views changed that quickly that he went from being a bush praising republican to an anti bush democrat.
i would like to get the reaons why he was relieved of his duties as commander in the baltics & why a few of the other generals, who know him donot speak highly of clark.

i would like to see, what i consider a strong democratic candidate running for president, because i think it will make the democratic process much stronger. however, unfortunately i don't think any of the democratic candidates have a clue about fighting these thugs so i will most likely vote for bush.

beantownjim,

are you sure that you live in boston? i thought most bostonians are liberal democrats.

for one he almost started WWIII with the Russians....Russians took over an airport and Clark wanted to go in there and force them out....

force as in military force

lmao...talk about a loose cannon...hard to determine who is more out of control -- him or Dean?

then there is Edwards trying to be Mr. Positive....lmao...talk about pandering.....first it was for the VP but now he thinks he can win it....

And Kerry...don't know where to start about this guy....he changes more often than the winds at Augusta

only guy who has any guts to take a stance and stick with it is Lieberman...I disagree with the guy 70% of the time but at least he has some character....

I made it back from Guantanamo Bay just in time to catch the show. I thought I was watching Saturday Night Live for a moment, but then I remembered that the actors on SNL can at least keep a straight face when cracking a joke.

No offense to all you yankees, but this dude is a clown.
Not that I'd like to see him kidnapped by aliens or anything...
leaving Doctor Disinformation Cheney in charge.

Most interesting stat that I heard today:
130/191 countries have an American military presence.
(source is a UN report)

Those are pretty good odds.
Almost as good as the odds that Bush sticks around to haunt us for another term, but I imagine they're nowhere near as good as the odds of more terrorist activity before his first term ends.
Talk about fighting a losing battle...the war on terror appears to be an oxymoron as the excessive use of force will likely just inspire more desperate enemies to defend themselves in any way possible.

It's just a thought.

Some say the end is near
Some say we'll see armageddon soon
Certainly hope we will
I sure could use a vacation from this bullsh...

So I think we live with you being amused as opposed to them.:)

I find it funny that people act like Bush is responsible for anything positive when it comes to securing our nation. Ask yourselves if you feel more safe now than you did four years ago before he took office. Unless you are lying to yourself, you don't.

I happen to agree with what Extrapolator said about any Democrat making a significant difference. Minor tweaks aside, the general direction of the country will stay intact for better or for worse.

Nick I know you like Powell so thought I give you his views
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...p/20040122/ts_afp/us_vote_powell_040122071515

--and in reply to your question
"I find it funny that people act like Bush is responsible for anything positive when it comes to securing our nation. Ask yourselves if you feel more safe now than you did four years ago before he took office. Unless you are lying to yourself, you don't."

Instead of speaking in unspecific liberal tounge

Let me be specific.
I must assume only fools would think
We are not safer without the terrorist openly training in Afgan with The Taliban.
We are not safter with over 300 of these major terrorists behind bars.
We are not safer with the Saudi's,Turkey,Pakistan among numerous others now aiding in war on terror.
We are not safer with the remaining terrorist on constant run and in hiding rather than be able to move about freely.
You evidently do not think home security has been increased one iota.
You don't think Lybia's opening up will reduce arms sales from them to terrorist.
You don't think Pakistan having internal investigation to see who leaked nuclear data to Iran-N Korea and others has any implications.
I could go one but running out of space on "the now"

--but let me touch on the prior
Again we must be foolish to think past admistration by not taking Bin Laden when offered could have saved those on 911
We would be wise to think throwing a few missles in Afgan would be enough to curtail terrorist training there.
We would be foolish to think sending billions in aid to N Korea on a promise they would stop building nukes would actually work.
We would be a fool to think we sent message to terrorist we were weak when they drug our soilders through the streets of Somolia, set them on fire and pulled out and ran like rabbits
and I could go on here also

Since you like to read--spend a little time reading some news from papers who are supporting the terrorist--you find out how much safer they feel--and you find out who they are pulling for in the elections.

and as far as feeling safe--personally I felt safe before and now.
As I stated at very start of war when all the protesting was done by the liberals on racial profiling of muslim citizens --when the shit hits the fan its going to be in liberal strongholds such as N.Y. DC and California where they can move about freely. Go on with the Politically Correct BS because that makes you the easiest target--and does in fact make me feel safer that I am miles away from any of those areas.

On the course!
Why the fuk would we not feel "safe"?

I've felt safe my entire life in this country. Perhaps, down the road, the USA will face bombs in the market place, killing 50 random slobs at a whip. I am actually surprised that we haven't seen that yet. Perhaps that "threat" isn't as real as we are lead to believe? Look, I remember hearing my whole young life about how the soviets were such a big threat to our "way of life". Maybe if the battle for world domination was played out on the ice, or a chess board, but not in the realm of warfare.

I face more danger walking in a big city, as opposed to worrying about some diaper head wearing a "suit" from Ace Hardware giving me a hug.

Live your life, and stop the fuking hand wringing, already! Does it ever really matter which "side" you choose in politics? It's like stepping in a pile of shit, and washing it off with a bucket of piss........Which is better, and what have you gained?

Christ....take the family out for diner and a flick this weekend!

I agree YYZ they over play that chit. Hey it's one of the only good things they brag about. We went to war and got Saddam. Now every American is safer. Really. Safer then before when. And not a word the other night about Bin Laden. Why, cant brag about that. If you wish to live your life in hole and worry. He would be the worry.
Then we need to worry about gays way more then anyone gives a chit. I dont care much bout wat gays do. There not enough of them to get to worried about. I dont thing there a national threat
But lets not say anything about the 9 million out of work and how to create jobs. We will re train them for what is avaliable. Like a few over trained Tech guys said. What should I be come a nurse. It's about the only jobs he said that are not being exported out of the country. He's right he's trained for the tech world thats what were told were liveing in. IBM just said it yesterday 15000 jobs next two years off to China and India. What incentives are we going to come up with to help keep those jobs here beside just turning our back on them.
Jack had it right way back at the top of this thread. It was a sad speech full of nothing.

One good thing
Can you you not read DJV????????????????????????? or just refuse to acknowlege. I was running out of room to post but will be happy to continue reasons in another thread.
----and I see you again have no answer bout past administration.
The "hundreds" of deaths in war are unbearable for you but you give past Administration a pass on not taking Bin Laden with no shots fired and somehow the "thousands" of lives that may have been saved is irrelevant.

and safe--I'll spend a night in Iraq any day before a night in the projects and live MUCH longer.

---and while no one in this thread has been specific on the BS I will give you an A for at least being specific on what wasn't said.

Quite like Dean its easy to make accusations but try backing them up with cold hard undisputable facts---like impeachment-perjury-obstruction of justice-disbarment-freeing convicted felons that it takes two pages to name them all (remember) You got yourself some kind of hero. What a role model for the younger generations.

Oh and by the way appears your boy Dean found were the Micheal Moore, Al Frankin mentality got him,he is trying to change his spots once again.:D

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...122/ts_usatoday/deanplansreturntowhoireallyam

He's history unforunately.
