First playable race today is the 4th soo... there's time for a "little" story first AND ya gotta read it if ya want today's picks too. (only kidding, of course). :mj07:

Let's call it:

Maybe You Should Just Play What I Play after all ...

Seriously, I never suggest doing that cause I can go just about ZERO for 9 races at any time. The only reason I'd STOP posting anything here, other than seeing a lack of interest, is if I think I might be losing OTHER PEOPLES moola. That's worser than nobody being interested in the plays. BUT... I gotta tellyas what's been going on around here cause the "Magic Carpet Ride" that I'm on can't last forever. (Hmm.. who sang that?... .. wait it's coming to me ... er, Donovan?... no... .. wait... GoT IT -> Steppenwolf. That's it).

On the weekend, one of my parlays that was a FOUR teamer only needed a Saints (pickem) win to cash. I checked the game at halftime and saw that it was too close not to hedge. Had to hedge cause the payoff on the parlay was too high not to. Now, the way I hedge is NOT to just play the other side (Atlanta). I play a "team scores OVER or UNDER for the 2nd half". in this case the play would be Saints score UNDER "x" 2nd half. That kinda hedging is risky, I know, but that's the way I playem and playing them that way could result in a DOUBLE score if you know what I mean and that goes ESP. for a pickem game.

Sooo what did I THINK I saw?.. Saints score UNDER 24 pts for the 2nd half. I had to rush cause the second half was about to start. I jumped on it like lightening, thinking that the oddsmaker was crazy. After the second half started, I thought there had to be something fishy bout that play so I went back and checked my pending plays. HOLY POOPIES... How the hell did I check the box that said.. "N.Y. JETS SCORE UNDER 24 PTS FOR THEIR GAME" ??? WTF?? I must be losing it.. there's NO WAY I WANTED THAT BET. ESPECIALLY THAT BET. Well $55 is $55 to me, but I just let it go cause Dimes doesn't let you cancel a play by phone.. you just have to play it other way to "cancel" it.

You KNOW THE REST.. Saints win, Jets score 19. EVERYTHING I touch lately is turning to gold. I didn't even watch the Jet game I was so pissed (at myself).

Get this -> Yesterday I watch some Philly races. I can watch races at other tracks without playing a thing - no problem. But, even though I had no intentions of playing anything yesterday, I couldn't resist playing a few yesterday cause the track was Philly. Played 5 races. I ain't gonna bore yas about the early ones... but I gotta share what happened in the 9th. I did have the pps for yesterday but ONLY used it to look a few things up.. not study it like I usually do. The ninth was a maiden race and there were a number of horses that were making their first start ... so much for the pps. I decided I'd just watch them in the prerace and post parade. I mark down the nos. of horses that look good and also the no. of horse that look bad. About two minutes before post is see I had the no. 2 maked in the "good" column two times and also no. 6 marked one time. NO OTHER HORSES WERE MARKED IN THE "GOOD" column. I wound up playing no. 2 Over/Under 3 other horse and OF COURSE the no. 6 was one of them. You know, I didn't even realize that those are the magic exacta nos. (2<->6) too. TOO BAD, I mighta doubled up on that combo.

Well, there ya go.. I'm still in the Twilight Zone over here. BOTH of those two horses were first time starters, the exacta pays $138 and change. Something else... I'd never play TWO first time starters by handicapping a race.

A streak of luck like this doesn't last long and when it does stop.. LOOK OUT. But, it might be fun to play along with small bets. A friend of mine keeps telling me I should be betting bigger.. I KNOW that the bestest way to kill the friendly ghost here at Jimbo's Place is to do just that and get the $50 and $100 out of my pocket at the betting windows instead of the dueces, fives and a tenspot. Don't get foolish! I've been there and done that as they say... DON'T DO IT!

Today's picks will follow if I see some people in this forum.

Just looking at them, 1st race. Favorites look OK on the track and GREAT on paper, six hoss wace. Even though the no. 3 may get his head somewhere on the board at 7-1... . . there ain't gonna be any magic in this race for me.. NO Play.

3 mins. to post.

Jimmy,

Always like to hear stories about betting wrong games, sides, over instead of under, etc. and come out smelling like roses. Continue on with the Midas touch and stay in the Zone!

OF COURSE.. the no. 3 DID "stick his nose in there".. .good for him. Prices ain't up yet.

By the way, that no. 3 was a SPOTTER (looked decent in the paddock) no way a handicaped/on paper hoss.

Trying my bestest, Hammy. I need to stay in the zone. Mrs. Jimboski is in upstate N.Y., helping her brother who just had a major operation. He lives alone on a dirt road in farm country (Delhi, N.Y.). She left me here Caddy (we share it).. a 17 yr. old, absolutely beautiful Seville, looks new, 75K orig. miles, etc.

Dang thang is giving me TRANSMISSION trouble and I'm here alone trying to run the show with this house myself. Pretty sure the trans is shot. I can drive it locally but that's it.

The ZONE better last... you know how much a overhauled or rebuilt tranny goes for them things?UGH.

Using all your resources (ie reading the form and visual inspection of horseys in the paddock to parade and observing tote board anomalies) makes the ROI much sweeter.

Yeah, SPOTTERs have been working great. There was a period when I just worked off spotters, no pps at all. It worked out pretty good too. But, I think you're right about using ALL available resources.

You gave me a good idea a few weeks ago, Hammy. About writing a book on How to SPOT Spotters. Thinking I would give MJers a big discount on it too, 50% off. ... only a half a million bucks per copy. LMAO.

Attention ALL MJ racing fans (actually I'm only whispering this) ... take a nap till the 4th. I'll be looking for something in the later races for awhile.

Where's our missing link, Hogman so we can be complete. I tried to recruit the footsballers out there, running around in circles when they could be cleaning up in here. Guess ya just can't smarten up some folks.

OK, I got "work" to do.

No, there's no way to do that, Hammy. Best way is to practice like I did. Watch the post parade and write down the nos. of horses you think may be acting differently than the others. Add whatever comments you can. Then check your notes vs. the results of the race. There's really a lot to it, A LOT.. see how the closers acted, see how the front runners acted, see how the deadheads ran, etc, etc. Friaid there's really no shortcuts and it takes a long long time to develope.

BUT, you can learn to spot the losahs much quicker. Remember the "antenna on their head" thingy I wrote about a no. times in here? Pretty sure I wrote it when I saw it on the favorite in the races in this forum before the race started and sure enough - every one of those favorites ran out of the money. DEADHEADS are MUCH easier to spot than ready hosses. You can practice just looking for DEADHEADS and it won't take long to get that part right. Just getting that part right should really help you avoid a lot of losses.

Ready to WIN horses is another story.. took me years make that A LOT of years and it's more of combination of things and there's a LOT of things too. Ya gotta do it for soo long until you get a picture in yer head that you can't even describe.. it's like a feeling you get when you see one.

Bottom line is "it just ain't easy to make easy moola". And even after all that studying and watching - luck will always be part of the equation.

Shoot, can you believe there's 59 Peeking Toms in here and the only MJers are me and deliman.

Join MJs, PTs.

I won't have time to post any more, falling behind trying to keep up with this stuff.

Let's see what happens next week.

I did catch that 6-2 exacta pretty good in the 4th, of course.

But that's not what I'm here for..

FINALLY, I can tellyas about a pretty big loosah for a change. That no. 1 hoss, CANDY MINE. He looked VERY good in the paddock, not a "10" thank God cause I woulda got out he BIG bucks, but very good.

It was time to take the $20s (with an "s") out and wheel him top/bot with multiple tickets AND also kinda heavy to WIN@3x and Place, only. I thought about making the "no. 1 on TOP" at $10/ticket but didn't do it. Whew! Still, it did add up to aboutt 3 figures.

See how he ran? Couldn't lift a leg until mid stretch, but still didn't have enough to even get ITM. Finished 4th.

Now, DATS what I'm talkin about.

Let's see...I'm 30 now. Probably when I was around 19 or 20, my buddy was house sitting for a weekend. Anyways, these people were unwise, and left the liquor cabinet to us, as long as we didn't trash the place. A young HM procured several 30 packs of the finest light beer 15$ could buy at the time, and we decided we'd bet our asses off in addition to :toast: and eating pizza and smoking the finest cigars at the local drugstore...only the best for HM.

Anyways, it was one of them perfect storm scenarios, where I says I'll bet 5 bux on a ten team parlay...but, being the young wise man I was, I says, I can't pick 10 games in one sport, so I shared the wealth. We're talking hockey, NCAA hoops, NCAA Foots, NBA, and NFL...All I remember I hit all of them, and the payday hinged on the Jaguars...think they were + 3 against the Gints on SNF. I tell my friend, I need to hedge this bet...put whatever was in the account, maybe 200 or so on Big Blue...Long story short, the Jaguars cashed the ticket, and I collected pretty big...My friend tells me later "I hedged the hedge and played Jax as well." :toast:

The moral of the story is to, if you're gonna flush your money away w/them paralys, spread it around a bunch of sports, and key in on a few games...my favorite is to Round Robin them...you'll either end up collecting cans on Dania Beach, or in the Champagne Rooms in South Beach.

Some story

Some story

That is EXACTLY what I do, HM. Not 10 teamers, but even with 4 teamers. I mix the sports. I think I wrote some stuff around here about doing MIXED parlays - not one sport. That's one of the reasons I like 5 DIMES (onliner). They were one of the first books to allow that AND they even let you shave pts. on teams in parlays.

Musta been nice to collect that 10 teamer, even with the hedge. Ya hadda hedge something like that.

My "bestest" story happened only around 6 or 7 years ago. We used to take Vegas trips then and always stayed for a week. Rent a car, hit the desert, the mountains, and OF COURSE the casinos.

Now, I'm a statitistics guy and apply stats to things that they DON't apply to ... you know, like playing parlays, predictiting footsball games (LOL), stuff like that. Well, after doing some exploring the trails in the desert or waliking up and down the whole stripe in HOT, HOT, Vegas ... me and the Mrs. would settle into a casino, relax, drink (not that much actually), and play KENO. It's like Bingo and it's relaxing.

OF COURSE, I'm gonna track EVERY stinkin no. that gets picked for AT LEAST 50 games while I'm playing. People are looking at me like I'm nuts. I kept tract of the nos. that got pulled THE MOST and the nos. that got pulled THE LEAST.

After about 3 or 4 hours of that nonsense I told the Mrs. that I'm gonna watch ONLY one more game, see what nos. on my lists come out in that game and erase those. Then, whatever nos. are left I'm gonna play 5 more games with those remaining nos. only. GREAT IDEA. BTW, we were playing games off and on all along.

Now, there were 7 nos. that I had marked for the last game that I would just watch JUST TO SEE which ones come in the game. I'll start playing the next game with the nos. that are left. The plan was that I would start playing the remaining ones in the next 5 or 10 games.

Guess what??? EVERY ONE OF THOSE 7 MUTHA JUMPIN NOS. WERE PICKED IN THAT GAME. EVERY STINKIN ONE. I musta checked that board 5 times .. couldn't believe it.

To add salt to the wound, that casino we were at (New Orleans) paid the highest in Vegas for 7 out of 7 (I found that out later). ONE stinkin buck on that game woulda got me $10 freakin GRAND. Yeah, TEN GRAND.

Now, that's a SON - AH - MA - BEACH, alright. Of course we tried that "trick" again the following year .. and .. Forgetaboutit !

What a card at Philly today.. thems must be scratching and clawing for horses to fill a card today (Wed.). Fields of 6, almost all maidens, Sheesh!

Thanks for sharing your story, HM.

Letem eat cake con't..

Letem eat cake con't..

I guess this thing is gonna be stuck on the top of the listings for awhile, so I'll just add to ihere. I'm begiinning to think that the Peepers come in here for this kinda stuff more than for the picks anyways.

In the MADhouse, footsballs place that is, if ya leave your thread UNtouched for awhile ya gotta git a shovel to dig the dang thang up. Yep, I get a fair no. of repliers in there but still you just gotta bump it once in awhile so ya can find it the next time you add a play or whatever.

Worth you trip here Dept.
I was doing VERY good with the WEAKday picks for three weeks straight. The (good) plan was to just play one of them weekday games and add some extra enjoyment to a nice evening at home, with the pizza and a few beers. Actually, more often Pepsies :00x8

Hti a weiner 3 weeks in a row, then last week my pick lost and even though I only play a fraction of unit on them WEAKend games, I decided that this week I'd try a 4 team mixed-sport parlay. I've been watching some COLLEGE (is there any other kind?.. srtike or NO strike) basketbawlers so I thought I'd start off with one of them in the parlay. Checked out all 30 or so games and came up with... er,.. . . . ? ..... PITTSBURGH -7. :00x25
Son -AMB

Any Philly picks/results from yesterday?

ARE YOU KIDDING??? Wednes Day is DEGENERATE DAY at Philly wacetwack. If any of yas are planning a DEGENERATE DAY trip to "PARX" -> go right BY the twack and hit the casino. The risk/reward thingy is better in there on that day. GOOD LUCK

Thanks, jtc and I enjoy seeing a new face around here. Thanks for jumping in here; the fire in my belly (hi, Ms. Palin) is barely flickering everytime I come in this forum it's so dead.

Check out the Philly picks sometime, so far - you may have enjoyed them even better :)

Good Luck to you.
