I have always been a Spurs fan since '89. I have never liked the Lakers, and did not bet on a single game in last year's finals. I try to never bet on Pistons, Lakers, New York, or New Jersey.

I don't know what type of media coverage you are watching or listening to, but all I am hearing on the radio and seeing on tv is about Steve Nash in Phoenix, and Shaq in Miami.

Do you have cable and ESPN? What have you seen more of? Tim Duncan or Shaq and Nash?

There is no one on Phoenix's roster that will be able to check Ginobli. No one.

Phoenix is athletic, and very talented especially on offense, but you can't deny that San Antonio has more experience, and better team defense.

AU2001:

I don't want to give you the impression I think this is a Suns lock, but I do think this is fairly close to a toss up, and with 4-1 odds in my pocket vs. 1.7 to 1 for the Spurs, I will take my chances. Only thing that ruins this wager is if Suns lose to Mavs.

I think the Spurs are a false favorite. If both teams were +250 or so, I wouldn't be taking either. If Spurs were +400, I would take them. I think all four of the supposed elite squads left (Detroit, SA, Phoenix, Miami) are all approximately equivalent and I went with the longest price and the home court advantage throughout. I think if they play these playoffs 20 times over, the Suns would win more than 5 times, of course, they wouldnt win more than 7 or 8. As we all know it all comes down to a few moments, calls, jumpers, coaching decisions, etc.

And AU:

The comment above regarding the Lakers was mainly due to my getting lambasted left and right in similar fashion last year when I began to predict the Pistons would win it all at about this same time. I heard a bunch of bull about how they wouldnt even be able to score 80 pts against the Lakers, Kobe would average 40, Shaq would dunk Wallace through the basket, etc.

I didnt focus that exactly at you, but I know, as a fact, many of the people touting the Spurs were saying similar things about the Lakers last year.

Maybe I am just crazy, but HERE COME THE SUNSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Cool. No problems here. You make good points about value with the Suns. I just think there is a reason that they are getting such a good price. It is because they have the least playoff experience of any of the big 4.

If Duncan stays healthy, it is the Spurs' championship to lose in my opinion.

too much loot to rest on hopes of health with duncans ankle
FYI: once you sprain an ankle..and do it again the ligament gets stretched and never regains the original "rigidness" making it more suceptible to sprains...(ligament is loose)
i know from experience....as long as it remains taped and in a brace he should be ok....unless its a high vertical /full bodyweight fall on that ankle

*Spurs are now -205 to win the West
*Spurs are now +145 (+135 some places) to win the NBA Championship
*Spurs are -165 not to win the NBA Championship.

Suns didn't play great defense last night @home. Suns are a very good team but IMO not on same level as Spurs. If Suns get past Mavs, they are going to be in for a huge surprise. Suns will NOT get the same open looks they are getting with the Mavs. Suns are now tied 1-1 with Mavs. This is one of the major reasons why I like the Spurs over the Suns. In addition, Suns get home court advantage which I think hurts you more than help you (unless series goes 7 games). Much easier to win games 3 & 4 vs winning games 1 & 2.

Spurs have proven against Nuggests that it is VERY difficult to run on them and have success.

Did anyone notice how well Dallas was able to penetrate against Suns defense? Anybody notice the easy shots Dampier got against Suns? Parker, Ginoble, and Duncan must be licking there chops! Take a look at my previous posts saying that is how Spurs will beat Suns. Parker and Ginoble taking ball to rim on consistent basis. Dallas doesn't have ANYBODY that takes the ball to hole as well as Ginoble and Parker. I think Duncan is better than Dampier? I think Spurs play better defense than Mavs. I think Spurs beat Suns in a 7 game series. :)

Looks like Spurs will beat Sonics in 4 or 5 games. Looks like Suns/Mavs will be a long series. You saw what happened to Mavs in game 1 against Phoenix after finishing up a 7 game series against Rockets. I also don't think you want to give this excellent coaching staff of Spurs more time to gameplan! Especially when he has the horses to execute a gameplan with players who are SMART and EXPERIENCED!

Scott........I value you opinion..........but there is one wildcard in all of this and its........Stoudamire

You have to admit.......its just sick how he has dominated thus far.......if its any indication he is going to be big trouble for TD and SA........look at how he dominated gm 3 in Memphis.....and you have to admit Memphis has some pretty big athletic bodys in Gasol, Swift and Wright........he has me scratching my head. I mean 40 points last night against a decent Dallas team.......

Thanks Maveraick2112. Amare is a great talent but let me fill you in on a little secret. Spurs play great defense and are a smart well coached team. Amare is going to be forced to score from outside, NOT layups/dunks. That is where Amare dominates. He beats opponents in transition. In the Denver series, Spurs showed they can and will get back on defense and not get beat in transition. IMO the Denver big men run the floor exceptionally well. Amare is a better player then anybody Denver has but you get the point. That is why I keep saying the Denver series not only helped Spurs in playoffs but showed that Spurs can control fast break teams who love to run.

AU2001 I think you and I are holding a winning ticket! :) (at least I hope so)

Last night was good sign for us Spurs backers. Suns and Pistons both losing at home. Pistons loss is worse because they lost at home to a depleted Pacer squad. How did they let that happen? Spurs right now look to be a tier 1 team with Heat, Pistons, Suns and maybe Mavs as tier 2 teams. Spurs have looked the most impressive especially after beating the Nuggets in round 1 who BTW were the hottest team in the NBA! (I don't think I have mentioned that ;))

Suns could have used wake up call. They have a 31-10 road record, I am pretty confident they can get a game in Dallas. No reason to panic.

And if it doesn't come in, no big deal.

Well, Joe Johnson is out with a broken face for at least one game going on the road. I have an outside feeling my suns will get past Dallas, but if they do it will be in 6 or 7, while the spurs will be rested and ready after trashing the sonics in 4 or 5. Walter McCarty has seen very little playing time but now he will be called upon a lot, and I don't see that as a good sign. I hate to say this, since I live in Phoenix, but I don't see the suns getting past the spurs, and my wager will be on San Antone to win the series.

Bombs - You're the one who acted like the Suns were so dominate. The Spurs will use that pathetic team as a tissue to wipe their ass. The funny thing the Spurs might be playing Dallas. Easy money again was on the Pacers last night. Follow my threads you might win a few bucks.

I just hedged my bet somewhat. I couldn't pass up this value and it takes off some of the risk on my bet and gives me 2 profit situations.

Detroit Pistons to win the NBA Championship +520

$2,072 to win $10,777 (Pinny)

Total Spurs bet:
$8,250 to win $14,570

Total Pistons bet:
$2,072 to win $10,777

Spurs win it all +$12,498 (profit)
Pistons win it all + $2,527 (profit)
Any other teams = - $10,322 (loss)

I am gonna pull another UNC vs Illinois NC game in the NBA. I hope to get both NBA teams to meet up in the finals. :)

Pistons at +520 is SUPERB value especially when I have Spurs at +170 to win it all. I think a lot of it has to do with Indiana beating Detroit in game 2. Obviously I am banking on Pistons handling Indiana tonight and the series. I think if I waited to see if Detroit wins game 3, I lose value. So I am taking the risk!

So if Detroit gets past Indiana, they will be playing the Heat. Heat with a healthy Shaq "might" have had trouble beating Detroit, but obviously Shaq is not 100%. This played a large role into me playing Detroit to win it all. If Shaq is not 100%, and his injury caused him to miss at least 1 playoff game, I will take the risk that Shaq won't be 100% for Detroit series.

I still think Spurs win it all, but now I took out a lot of risk of my 8k Spurs bet and now have 2 teams to cheer for in this playoffs. I still don't understand why Pistons are +520 to win it all at Pinny. Maybe Pinny took a lot of HEAVY action on Spurs along with my 8k bet!

I also think Detroit to win East is at +170 is a great bet as well, especially with Shaq being more injured than anyone thought. But my play on Detroit was to minimize risk and make profit. Provided Spurs or Detroit win it all. Therefore I took Pistons to win it all! I think there def. is a decent chance that Spurs face Detroit in the finals. Especially when you factor in Shaq not being healthy and not being EFFECTIVE so far in the playoffs. Heat in first 2 rounds have not faced any big men. Against Detroit they will.

Good luck to anyone who follows!

GO SPURS!
GO PISTONS!

Just took Pistons +470 for 200.00 pays 940.00 to win the championship.

Also, took the pacers + 8200.00 for 100.00 bucks pays 8200.00... I know sounds real stupid, but if you believe in conspiracy theories the NBA "owes" the Pacers. Don't get me wrong I still think the Pistons will beat the Pacers, but just in case a 1/8200 shot I like to gamble boys.
