I already have a guaranteed profit if either team wins. But I could hedge and make it something like +9k if Spurs win it and +8k if Pistons win it all. That prob. be the smart thing to do (and good advice Thunder) but this has been a perfect year betting wise for me so I am going to stick with my guns and original thinking.

I bet Pistons to lower my risk on losses if Spurs did not win it all. Pistons at 5-1 was too good value to pass up and would only cost me another 2k. If both teams were eliminated, what is an extra 2k if I lost 8k on Spurs. My goal was to have Spurs vs Pistons in finals and I accomplished that.

Since I still think Spurs will win it all I will keep my bet as is. Although I felt Spurs would have easier time beating Heat than Pistons.

I will post my write-up in this thread why I like Spurs over Pistons. I think Spurs win series in 6 games but I hope LetsMakeMoney's prediction comes true!

If series goes 7 games, Pistons will be +200 ML in game 7. I could throw down 3k to win 6k on Pistons then.

I get screwed if Duncan sprains his ankle but I can't complain since I still win over 2k on Detroit.

However, Shaq owns Duncan.
GL, bud.

Really? Was Shaq hurt when Duncan and Spurs won his first two titles? Didn't Shaq and Kobe get swept by Duncan and Spurs in 1999? How do you get swept if your best player owns the other team's best player? Did they play the Lakers and Shaq in 2003 when Duncan won his second ring?

I would love to see some head-to-head stats to back that statement up!

Here's some food for thought(as of last season):
During the Tim Duncan era the Spurs have made winning a habit, posting a regular season record of 379-163 in his seven NBA seasons ? the Spurs winning percentage of .699 during his career is the best in the NBA over this seven-year span ? not only have the Spurs enjoyed the best winning percentage in the NBA over this period ? during the last seven seasons they actually have the highest winning percentage of any team in the four major sports (MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL) ? in the Duncan era the Spurs have won two NBA Championships (1999 and 2003), have finished with the NBA?s best regular season record three times (?98-99, ?00-01 and ?02-03) and have captured four Midwest Division titles (?98-99, ?00-01, ?01-02 and ?02-03)

Let's not forget that Duncan also has multiple MVP awards. And he is about to win his 3rd title in only his 8th year. Shaq didn't win his first one until his 8th season.

Please think before you post crap like that. You may like Shaq better than Duncan, and you can make a case for both as to who is the better player between them, but to say anyone OWNS Tim Duncan is ridiculous.

Spurs in 5!

I think there's a definite missed opportunity if you don't hedge with Detroit +235 for the series. . . everyone thought the Lakers was a sure thing over the Pistons last year and look what happened.

There's also an interesting factor that for the last several years the team that has had the longer rest for the championship series (except for one instance with the Lakers beating the 76ers) has lost. Pistons are fresh off their huge win over the Heat while the Spurs have been waiting forever.

Anyways, Spurs have a good shot to win obviously but the Pistons at +235 is great value

Seems silly to me you wouldnt take the sure 8 or 9 k right now.............if deet wins you only win 2500...........you're making a mistake counting out this piston team..........I am not sold on beating Denver and Phoenix and struggling with Seattle.........these teams seem a lot more even than the price indicates.........Phoenix and Denvers interior defenses were a joke and seattles wasnt much better..........

Also dont forget Seattle series Ray Allen missed all of 2nd half of game 2 and Rashard Lewis missed almost every game and Sonic still almost went 7 games..........

If Luke Ridnour can have the kind of series he had against the Spurs imagine what Billips and Rip can do.........If fact if you look at all three series the Spurs played ......Denvers Boykins.....Seattles Ridnour..........and Phoenix's Nash all had decent series vs the spurs...........

Got to agree. If you can make GUARANTEED money, why not take it? The only reason you wouldn't would hedge is because you're missing mroe than just a few brain cells... There is no other way to see it.. Guaranteed 10K today is MUCH better than a possible 10000000K tomorrow..

HEDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are offering great advice but my bet was Spurs winning it all. Detroit bet was used to lower my risk on losing all my Spurs bet. Example being Duncan spraining his ankle again etc. I feel Spurs win series and I am putting my money where my mouth is.

Of course the "smart" thing to do is hedge and I appreciate the advice but thats why they call it gambling. I am going ALL in on SPurs but if Pistons win I still win 2.5k in profit! :)

As of right now I like my position but if I do hedge I def. will document it!

Now if someone tells me why Pistons have great chance in winning this series, I might hedge. But from reading posts and listening to radio/espn I have not heard real convincing arguments.

Of course I thought Lakers would beat Pistons last year in finals and we saw how that turned out! :)

Look at it this way. If you hedge and the spurs win you are costing yourself 3000$. If you don't hedge and the pistons win, you are costing yourself 7500$. Hmmm. No brainer. Not with these Pistons and their starting five. Granted they don't look pretty, but I wouldn't count out the defending champs.

Scott, I agree with your insanity. No one can come up with any reason to take the Pistons except for the fact that they have good "value" at +240. There is a reason why the money is coming in on San Antonio:

They are the better team.

If you're not hurting for the money, and obviously you're not. Then why put anymore down on a team that you don't think can win the series? I say "let it ride" on the Spurs.

I don't like to hedge. When I had USC to win it all last year, I hedged small part of it but not 50/50. Smart people prob. would have hedged 50/50. USC ended up winning and I collected $$$. I felt USC would win but was not 100%. Thats why I hedged. I respected OU enough where I needed to hedge small % of it. I feel same way with Spurs. I feel Spurs win, but not 100%. But I already have a 2.5k "profit" scenario with Pistons winning it all. Nice consolation prize.

The real dilemma would have been if Heat made it to finals. Cuz I have nada on Heat. I felt Spurs would beat Heat easier (another reason I took Pistons 5-1) but I would not be 100% confident Spurs beat heat. If I hedged, I be already minus $$$ with Pistons and then hedge $$$. Thankfully, Pistons made it!

AU2001 we are thinking alike! I am sure you also think USC would have taking Auburn behind the woodshed like they did to OU. J/k :)

Here's a reason to hedge: Duncan rolls his ankle again

That was 1/2 reason I took Pistons to win it all at 5-1. I needed to lower my risk in case Duncan hurt or Spurs lose. Pistons 5-1 was too good to pass up because I felt they were the #1 team in East and would be toughest opponent from East to face Spurs.

I will roll the dice. I want to see how Spurs look in game 1. If Spurs split first 2 games, Pistons prob. will be +140 or higher to win series.

Scott,

You might also want to look at Detroit +140 to win the Eastern Conference. Good value in my opinion.

That was good advice and I be sitting pretty if I did exactly that. Although I placed my Detroit winning it all later. Wanted to give you props on the "winning" advice! Although it was not "good" value since Pistons were +130 to beat Miami in series. :) I think Pistons were +180 at the time you posted at Pinny so then it would have been GOOD value. Maybe your book was low balling you.
