It amazes me how fast teams lose focus. Dropped wide open passes, mistackles, etc. From the 1st qtr, I didnt think this was even going to be close.

The funny thing is if I had waited until the line was +6' I would have bought the half point. At +6 I don't like going all the way up to -130. It would have helped for that game, but the majority of the time I think you end up costing yourself money.

I guess if you're betting a couple of dimes per game, thats a lot of juice.....otherwise, I respectfully disagree. I scored many a wins--not to mention pushes--this football season that would have been losses had I not bought the points. Either a half or a full point is what I do......sometimes maybe 1 1/2, but rarely....anyway, this is the first season I have bought points when appropriate and it has been quite revealing. Like if the line is 7.5, but moves down to 6.5 by the time my lazy ass decides to bet for example. :mj07:

Of course, the nature of gambling being what it is, next year I will lose my shirt and then some doing the same!!

I'm not opposed to buying points at all. I always buy points to get to 3, 7, etc., as long as it's a 1/2 point. -120 I can stomach, I just don't like going to -130 or -135, considering most of the time it will turn out you didn't need to buy points at all.

I do agree with you though. I have won and pushed A LOT of games where I bought points. I know a lot of people are opposed to EVER buying points, but it's definitely helped me in the long run as well.

When you consider how many games end on 3,6,7 and 10, it is a strategy you have to consider....why it took me until this year to actually do that just shows you can always learn something regardless of how long you've been doing this......I have a couple of buddies who call me a pussy for buying points, like I am cheating somehow, and I just roll my eyes.

Good luck tomorrow Glenn!! Hopefully we'll find a better team to back than Maryland. Effing Turtles.

Thanks TP. GL to you as well! And I wholeheartedly agree, I've always said one of the biggest reasons people don't become good handicappers is because they're stubborn and not willing to listen to other people/viewpoints. Trust me, I KNOW I still have a lot to learn. :mj07:

I'll have to consider the full point buying. I'll start paying closer attention to the games that I would have won/pushed if I bought a full point. I always notice the 1/2 point games, but probaby overlook the 1 pointers...

GQ,
Real quickly about the buying of a full point.....it obviously helped tonight. Figured the line could get to 6 1/2, but had to get the bet in when I did as I had to leave the house for a few minutes, so I impulsively grabbed the full point, so I could have the full TD in my pocket. It never dawned on me to boost it up to 7.5, but going up a full point I did not even blink at.

Otherwise, the one spot where I have found it to be a pretty good strategy is in the NFL when you have a favorite at -3.5....ok, you shave off 1/2 for some insurance on possible push, but why not just pay a little extra for -2.5. I have won a few times doing that this year when it would have been a loss or push, and can say that in those specific instances have not taken a loss and went down an extra amount of juice as a result. So thats one spot where I have found the full point to be more than worth it. Man, its amazing how many times a 3.5 (or even a 4-pt) fav, win a game by a field goal.....or is up 10 and lets the other team come down for a worthless TD......its like a formula in the NFL.
