i am not going to get in a pissing match but i lost everything in a flood about 6 years ago. you know what it sucks but you have to move on they had alot of time to leave. quite frankly many were just hard headed. if you dont have the ability to leave somewhere due to age or poverty then dont live in a place that has hurricanes hitting--DAD.big news flash new orleans is not the united states plenty of places to go yeah it sucks but cold hard fact is you have to pick up and move on they chose not to they chose to sit on roofs with their children and hope --bad move.

KMA, interesting points; I agree with several of them. I think we're all upset about this situation. I would have liked to see more of the residents take more responsibility for themselves and their families and clear out, but since they didn't and are now having to live like third-worlders, they need help.

I think your most valid point is the one made about potential terrorists taking note. I'm not sure how they could plan a natural disaster like this, but there's no telling what they might be cooking up.

I'm also growing more frustrated with our endeavors militarily in Iraq and Afghanistan. We just need to a-bomb the sobs when they threaten us and quit fartin' around. They're never going to see any way but their own, so when they become a threat, we just need to go in in a high-tech way and kick their asses back into the stone age and get out. FOCK REBUILDING THEM!! More money for our countrymen who were affected by Katrina or any other future homeland disaster.

How would you feel about our authorities starting to profile? I think that's the biggest failure in the fight against terrorism in our homelands. Let's profile these ethnic groups and catch these guys pre-emptively. Let's start by denying all requests for school visas from these Arabic Muslims and so disallow any more of them from coming in. Wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit. I'm sure there are plenty of Asians and Indians who would love to come to our country to go to school, so let's deny the Arabs and welcome the Indians and Asians who have proven to be very valuable members of society (most notably in Medicine and computer sciences).

You know, most people hear the word "profile" and they get upset. Well, how about this analogy. If you had some ham in your refrigerator that had green spots and a rotten smell, would you get rid of it, or would you randomly sort through your meat drawer and pick out the pastrami to dispose of?

They new after a study done 6 years ago the dikes were sinking and needed repair in N Or. Our government said there was no 4 to 5 billion available when asked for in 2001 and every years since. Joe Scarborough a republican brought this up. Joe said lots of cash for over seas like Iraq. But were short at home. Guess what it will cost now? 30 billion maybe more.

Maybe if the LOOTERS, the same people THAT LIVE IN THE CITY, could use the EXTRA TIME they have on their hands and help others out. I don't know, maybe do something crazy LIKE WORK TOGETHER in this crisis situation. I'm not referring to the elderly or young, but I've seen a miraculous ability to float any objects they so desire. Could have put these talents to good use.

Were do I send my request for assistance to shovel out my drive way in a few months. So I can operate the vehicles of my business. So my employees can work.

I highly doubt this would have been handled any quicker war or no war. That whole topic is mostly irrelevant to this situation. I also highly doubt ANY OTHER administration would have handled things any faster. This is called YOUR GOVERNMENT. This is exactly how YOUR GOVERNMENT operates.

The calousness of some of the people in this thread is sickening.

First and foremeost, we are human beings. We are supposed to act with compassion. None of you know anything about any of the circumstances surrounding the people who stayed. I have heard and seen many valid reasons (sick parents, children, etc.).

It is not our government's fault this happened (although the funding for the Army Corps of Engineers' levee project is troubling).

What is disturbing to me is:

1. Already this has become a politcal issue...SHAME on anyone who uses politcs in any form in this HUMAN, AMERICAN tradegy.

2. We cannot "shoot all looters". Many of these people are just trying to get needed supplies (food, water, diapers). The relief effort has been FAR too short (the President, himself even admitted that this morning).

COME ON PEOPLE....this is TRAGIC for all involved including us.

Some of these alleged criminals have stolen boats or vehicles in order to save family and strangers because the AUTHORITIES weren't there to help.
