i picked up a few over the holidays...and i felt it....

i`ve found that there is a certain weight that is sort of the "tipping point" in your overall health...at least for me...

when you get over a certain point, your b.p. starts to rise..blood sugar can become borderline...you just don`t feel the same....

for me it`s only around 5/10 pounds...

the difference in how i feel...how i sleep...it`s pretty fricking substantial...

i`m gonna try and get around 10-15 pounds below my "tipping point"...haven`t been that low for a long time....

my worry has always been that something will happen and i won`t be able to exercise..i really think that if i stop exercising,i`ll fall apart...

that`s scary for me...when i stop exercising,i lose whatever muscle tone i have...and the older i get,the harder it gets...

glad i`m not a 9-5`er anymore...

awesome! I have no health problems other than a some heart things that are stable, so I'm thankful! I just got tired of seeing a fatboy looking back at me in the mirror last year! I ran 4 miles this morning at 0600 and feel terrific now! :0074

4 miles ain`t too shabby,bud...i just do 30 minutes 5 or 6 times a week on a treadmill....a fast walk....i`m not a young buck and i`m afraid too much running might mess with my knees and hips...

i would think, given your line of work, you have some serious motivation to do the right thing...

i don`t know how you do that job....i`m in awe of folks like yourself and va nurse....it`s more than a job...much more important than that...i`ve spent many overnights in the hospital because i didn`t trust some hospital staff...

anybody that`s ever had a loved one in the hospital knows the true value of of having someone caring and capable on the job....

takes a special kind of person....

Thanks!! Sure is getting harder to b a nurse! Instead of ur patient population consisting of a lot of depression era and Great Generation folks like when I started, u c a lot of baby boomers now. They r much more difficult to care for, and heaven help everybody n healthcare when the 60s and 70s born people become elderly! It's gonna suck n a bad bad way!!

What do you eat Weasie

i`m not "crazy-crazy" about diet....but no red meat....no fast food ...i ate subway at one point, but i have no idea what`s in that meat,so i gave it up.....chicken and tuna every now and then....not often...

cheerios or shredded wheat and bran for breakfast(along with some canadian "ace mini baguette crisps" with coffeee when i have it...maybe 3 or 4 times a week)......

do eat lowfat diary...eat too way too much cheese..i eat potatoes on the weekend...organic skim milk...

very conscious of salt....but i`m weak for "bush`s best(not THAT bush)bourbon and brown sugar" beans....there goes the sodium....great stuff...

unsalted pistachios and cashews and almonds...

every now and again i break down and eat some "michael seasons"lowfat unsalted potato chips...they`re delicious...

started drinking diet soda, but i`m gonna give it up...reading too much bad info on aspartame...so i`ll be back to regular hawaiian punch...

lots of egg beaters(egg whites)....some meat substitute products like the "tex mex" i described in jr.`s taco thread...

i like dessert...so i grab some "lotte binch" biscuits at the korean store...lowfat,but the chocolate on those biscuits is excellent...and i keep a bag of hershey`s dark chocolate in the fridge...

also keep a container of carrot and celery strips in the fridge(along with some lowfat dip)...it`s something enjoyable to grab and graze on....and i keep some unsalted rice cakes that i put low(er)fat peanut butter on...

and i always steam some asparagus and/or broccoli/cauliflower and keep in containers to snack on when i come back off the road...they`re actually very good cold...

on special weekends a eat a "dr oetker ristorante pizza"....without a doubt theee best frozen piza on the planet...bar none...it`s not healthy......but not nearly as bad as a carry-out pizza...they`re small...

there is definitely some bad stuff in there......and i like eating late(which isn`t good)...i doubt it will extand my life...but i honestly think i feel better eating this way....

my brother met a bad end....i think it put a little fear in me...

/i need f-ckin` spell check...

Old School, you don't have to give up chocolate if you start eating healthier unless you have diabetes or something. I found this information for you. Actually, I found pretty much the same information elsewhere but I was concerned that it may not be exactly "fair and balanced" since it was a site with Hershey as a sponsor....

Chocolate, particularly dark chocolate, has been found to have health benefits and isn't the forbidden food that you might think it is.

http://nutrihealth.in/food/myth-chocolate-lacks-any-nutritional-value/

◦Chocolate is a good source of magnesium, copper, calcium, iron and zinc.
◦It contains polyphenols which are antioxidants found in tea and red wine and are said to reduce the risk of heart disease.
◦Antioxidants also lower blood pressure and improve insulin resistance.
◦Stearic acid, is the main saturated fat present in chocolate and this will not raise your cholesterol the way other saturated fats do.
