Is it possible that the grandparents had anything to do with this? I have seen grandparents who become obsessed with grandchildren and will at times do anything to get custody or control of them.

With this family who knows if this was a plan with the defence and the father ran with it. These cops spend a lot of time on witness stands and are very seasoned. He might of fake that suicide also.
