Tanner Boyle was quite the shortstop back in the day, too....:0008
If your list does not contain the name Clemente it's because you aren't old enough to have seen him play or you are ignorant of baseball.
Bob Gibson for pitcher
Stan Musial for batter
Can you tell that I'm old?

not so sure,bud...the guy was the best leadoff man i ever saw..he was the hub of some very powerful oakland teams for many years..and was on a couple w.s. champions...
he did everything well... all time leader in walks, runs and stolen bases...and he had had excellent power as a leadoff hitter(i believe he retired as a top 100 hiome run hitter, granted more due to longevity...but he still had good power for a smallish guy)....i believe he won a golden glove....he was a guy that the opposing team had to game plan for...you walk him and there was a good chance you just put a man in scoring position...
everybody loves power hitters....but as a complete offensive weapon,i`ve never seen anyone better....and he was extremely durable in his prime....
i think he probably stayed too long...many do...
it`s a subjective opinion...i know i really enjoyed watching him play...
Thread states " Who is the Best Player in Base ball you ever SEEN " I grew up in an American League city & the chances of seeing Roberto on TV were far & few except World Series or All Star games. He is on my list but not at the top. How many times did you see Williams play ?
He was the best right handed pitcher that I have ever seen & Koufax was the best lefty....I would have loved to see them pitch against each other....
....and gibson was about as intimidating a pitcher as i`ve ever seen
i love ya brother...:toast:
we agree on the pitchers....koufax was near unhittable....and gibson was about as intimidating a pitcher as i`ve ever seen(all due deference to nolan ryan and randy johnson)...
How about Drysdale being intimidating....
personally,i lean to gibson...drysdale was just plain mean....
