1-2 packs a day here. :cuss: Feel like I have smoked all my life. Both parents were pretty heavy smokers and since I grew up in the sixties they smoked in the house, cars,at the movies,on airplanes and in restaurants. My dad wouldn't go anywhere he couldn't smoke except church.

Smoke cigars 3-4 times a week... Just started the habit about a year ago. Nothing better coming home from working and having a quality cigar and red bull to ease out and watch some games.

OK I'm in--Start thread day of your birthday Jack and we'll use for support like back when Bear quit--he is my inspiration on getting job done and feeling better.
It certainly is ridiculous that with all the things that can kill us we have no control over-that supposedly intelligent people can't rectify things they can control.

Think March is pefect time--we can look forward to really smelling spring and breathing in fresh air-spring is time everything comes alive--and hopefully that will include us. ;)
:toast:

march 19th is the last cig. let's do it, man, let's do it. :)

Nicotine is a bitch. I've smoked maybe 20 cigarettes in my life, but chew a tin of Cope a day.

My paternal Grandma died of Emphysema about 10 years ago. She smoked until the day she went to the hospital for the last time. She would drag her oxygen tank around the house smoking a cigarette.

Paternal Grandpa was diagnosed with kidney cancer 15 years ago, had one removed, quit smoking right then using the gum and is still alive.

Maternal grandma died of lung cancer.

Dad diagnosed with emphysema 5 years ago. Quit smoking, but the damage done. Needs oxygen most of the time and is in and out of the hospital. He chews the gum nonstop.

Needless to say, all the above were heavy smokers.

Maternal grandpa was a heavy cigar smoker for 75 years, but died from unrelated factors at 91.

Have the same habit kosar. Never smoked in my life.

Started chewing tobacco around 10 when fishing with my dad. Started dipping every day about 14. Went from Hawken to Skoal to Copenhagen. Steady can every two days for quite a few years. The Copenhagen finally started tearing me up so bad I had to switch to long cut. Really scaled back during my twenties and quit for long periods of time in my late twenties. Never had a problem quitting though. Go through a roll of 10 about every 2-3 weeks now.

I chewed a tin of copenhagen for over 20 years. It was wearing at my mouth so bad I finally quit. That was 8 years ago. My dad has been chewing copenhagen since he was a kid. He's 71 now and has a spot worn in his mouth so deep that he says its going to burn all the way through one of these days and his chew is going to fall out. He'll never quit.

From So cal, myself, and yeah there is not much smoke around here. To see people smoke just seems weird to me. Only really notice it in the Indian Casinos round here, or going to different states.

Quite cold turkey a month ago,

no urges anymore.

got to point, I felt like $hit afterwards and clothes, car, smelled of smoke.

p.s

I haven't had a drink in a month either, so we'll see how that goes. Heading to new orleans this weekend for a wedding :violin: :142crying

Marboro menthol lights, 5-10 a day. Wintergreen Redseal 4-5 times a week. Both since jr high (25 years +). I have quit both many times, for up to 18 months at a time. Never really have a problem with withdrawal or any of that shit, stopping isn't the problem, the relapse always happens somewhere down the road when my stress level goes seriously into the red and the surest way I know to chill is to get some nicotine in my system...

Even tho I'm a light smoker I really want to quit, I don't want my kid to lose a parent when she's young like I did.

Have only smoked about 10 cigarettes in my life, all in high school from peer pressure. Thought they "tasted" horrendous. Never had a cigar in my life. I won't generally go out with a gal who smokes, either, unless she is really special. My Mom must have smoked a couple of packs of cigs a day, even during her pregnancy w/ me, I'm sure. Even smoked on her deathbed, I guess she must have really enjoyed them. I can't even stand to be in the room when someone is smoking, an occasional sweet smelling pipe excluded.
Now, I have a longtime friend from college, Herb, who still stops in for a relaxing & peaceful visit every once in awhile, but even he doesn't come around to see me as often as he used to. I do enjoy seeing him and he usually brings over some nice snacks with a movie or a game with him.
Jack & the rest of you...........the key to the matter is just that, mind over matter. You need to really have the mindset that you really do want to quit. Without that, I hate to say that you are probably wasting your effort. If you are not kidding yourself and are sincere about wanting to stop, I think you have more than half the battle won already. However, this procrastinating does not seem like a good sign..........a good step would be to practice by cutting down your intake by, say, 10% every couple of days or so until your birthday. My brother quit and he started out by carrying scissors with him ............yup, he cut the end off of his cigs after 3-4 drags, put the rest away for later. It was his way of cutting down. It eventually worked for him.
3 or 4 of my very best friends smoke alot(which is a high % as I don't have very many best friends)..........personally, I don't think there is much hope of them ever quitting as they have talked about it for years. They all come up with the typical excuses and rationalizations. It saddens me alot to think that they may not be around someday because of that. Saddens me very much. The "end" from what I have seen, is not pretty or comfortable, either.
My utmost sincere best of luck to all of you.
