US Census Bureau Explains Its Pre-Mailing Mailing

by KYW's Karin Phillips

Households across the country this week are receiving reminder letters that their Census questionnaires will be in the mail next week. Isn't that just a little bit of a costly overkill?

Census officials say they have good reason for sending a letter before they send the real census questionnaire next week.

Monica Davis, media specialist with the Census Bureau, says it helps to get more people to return their census forms:

"We actually get a six to 12 percent bump in mailback increase. And for us, having people mail back their questionnaire is really the most cost-saving measure. It actually saves the taxpayers $85 million for every one-percent increase we have in people who mail back their questionnaires."

For every household that does not return its Census form, it costs the Bureau $57 to send out a census taker.

The 2010 Census is due back April 1st.

Get ready to fork out your 57$ for my household ya fuckers :thefinger :thefinger :thefinger

I am not sending mine back just out of spite;)

In the shadows
be careful for what you ask for, you might start off with the 5 question standard form and end up with the 20 page pain in the ass form that requires a blood and stool sample, and when the SEIU goons are done kicking the shit out of you for your civil disobedience, the will just pick it up with a dust pan :mj07: :scared

We all got three letters about out "stimu-loss" check a couple years back, too!

Correct! This has nothing to do with party or administration.

The federal government seriously does not understand how to do most things efficiently.
