I guess the worrisome thing is the full moon increasing the normal tides, plus the timing of it hitting in the NY area with the tides. Not that all the other areas are not facing bad stuff - just so much that can be damaged in the shot up NY.

I agree with the hype, although it sounds bad. Kind of like the weather terrorists here when there is any decent amount of snow that coming - they make it into a weather event to draw in viewers.

Please stay safe, everyone. Hope you have enough drinks to ride it out! :popcorn2

same here.

stay safe and dry you east coast folks.

everything secured..

now if we don't loose electric for a week and the trees in my yard stay of the roof we will be ok ...I hope...

80 mph ain't nothing to fuck w/and storm surge will paralyze a lotta of the low lying parts all over Tidewater..

we hunker down...

SandBridge[low lying beach rentals and houses area] was mandatory along w/the danger zone flooding areas throughout Tidewater cities.

It appears we may get a huge break because Irene is down to a Cat 1 now..we will get pounded but as of right now we shouldn't get hit by the 100mph that we always fear..

55-80mph is the latest report sometime around 8pm tonite...

home is as tight as I can get everytime we battle mother nature here in Tidewater.

No loose missles and all vehicles away from my trees.

we will probably get flooded in here at the house ..we always way do w/these and Noreasters..no biggie...the two lakes come together in our main entrance in to the neighborhood and we wait out the time for the water to drain-off...7-8 hours at the most..

Electric..we keep our fingers crossed..

so same olde Cane stuff except the signs are good that we may avoid the super bad damage of Canes and Noreasters in the past..

Certainly hope so..I hate chainsaw cleanup..and that is what I will have in my hands for a week if we get a turn for the worse..

tree debri ..small limbs and leaves everywhere.

flooding of course..

we are fortunate this time..

major destruction appears to be very low

the area did have some loss of life which is horrible.

Officials say a third person in Virginia has died from trees toppled by Hurricane Irene.

including an eleven year old boy

mother nature is so unkind at times..
