Nice Work

Nice Work

Whats your Co. input on Obama care?

Once we hit 2014, Members of Congress and their staff will be shopping in the same state based health care exchanges that many average Americans will be checking out for the best deals and plans available.

Starting in 2013, an extra 0.9% Medicare tax will be charged on payroll.

Another batch of people who earn more but still have low incomes will get tax credits to offset their insurance costs. Consumers will be able to comparison shop for policies in newly created exchanges that will operate like popular online travel websites.

Insurance companies will have to sell coverage to everyone, regardless of their medical history, and will have to restrict how much they vary premiums based on age. Companies with 50 workers or more will be required to offer insurance to their workers or pay a penalty.

Bottom Line

COST???

TIA

Our company really doesn't have a stance on Obamacare, in general. One of the things our customers (hospitals, surgery centers, payors, etc) ask for assistance in is what their business will look like in the 'what if' scenarios.

Personally, I feel the general public is not considering the unintended consequences of the healthcare reform that is currently being proposed. Many large companies are already stating they will not be participating because the fine is lower and easier to pay than trying to comply. This will more than likely simply add more strain.

For me (or anyone) to answer with any amount of confidence would be a good signal that I am confident in making bold statements about things where I do not have enough information.

In the end, we are going to have to take our medicine (pun intended) as a country and get the overall system in good working order.

What I can say with a good amount of certainty is that the old fee-for-service model will be replaced with some form of population management. What that will look like is much much tougher to predict.

Cheers

Not at all.

Population management is where providers are compensated to manage the health and healthcare of the people in their community. They are then "at risk" for their population's healthcare costs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Population_health

at risk?.....would an example of this be penalizing a hospital if someone has a return visit after a procedure?...couldn`t that be hospitals being rewarded for cutting healthcare costs(i.e. care)?.....

i mean we already know that medicare is being gutted and the funds are being "slipped" into medicaid.....

Understand and Thanks

When you owe people money they own you.

Insurance sounds a bit like a Business not wanting to let go of the past. Hoffa/Bufalino times

"Your" customers are hospitals, surgery centers and I'm thinking when you say "payers" you mean employee's and/or policy holder's?

I had appointment with doctor in his office which is in a local hospital in April 2011 and October 2011.

My insurance was billed twice for $108 and $148. Th Insurance paid 1/2 an the hospital is trying to get another $108/$148 from me....

I found out this double charge is how hospitals always billed insurance but since Insurance companies no longer pay the 2nd charge hospitals bill the patient.

Insurance doesn't pay any more they told me since this 2nd charge by the hospital is for the doctor using their facility!!!! I've appealed and await a decision...

This situation is an example of abuse (overbilling) by hospitals that currently spike rates of policies plus cause confusion.

"Obamacare" will have safeguards in place to prevent these types of billing practices...

My number one reason for giving "O" another "4"

this is what you`re worried about?...not the extra $3500 a year for health insurance?...you aren`t going to have any "appeal rights" under a single payer gov`t one-size fits all program...

what you should be worried about is not being able to make any decisions regarding your own healthcare, even if you can afford them...the government will make those decisions for you...they`ll decide...or they`ll force a hospital to palm you(or mom or dad) off on a "rehab facility" if you have any complications after a surgery instead of readmitting you to get the follow-up care you need(so they can avoid being fined by the government)....

the doctors won`t be making the call...they aren`t healers any longer...they`re govermnet employees looking at a budget sheet...

insanity...but people just aren`t aware of what`s actually going down...
