Whats your Co. input on Obama care?
Once we hit 2014, Members of Congress and their staff will be shopping in the same state based health care exchanges that many average Americans will be checking out for the best deals and plans available.
Starting in 2013, an extra 0.9% Medicare tax will be charged on payroll.
Another batch of people who earn more but still have low incomes will get tax credits to offset their insurance costs. Consumers will be able to comparison shop for policies in newly created exchanges that will operate like popular online travel websites.
Insurance companies will have to sell coverage to everyone, regardless of their medical history, and will have to restrict how much they vary premiums based on age. Companies with 50 workers or more will be required to offer insurance to their workers or pay a penalty.
Bottom Line
COST???
TIA
Our company really doesn't have a stance on Obamacare, in general. One of the things our customers (hospitals, surgery centers, payors, etc) ask for assistance in is what their business will look like in the 'what if' scenarios.
Personally, I feel the general public is not considering the unintended consequences of the healthcare reform that is currently being proposed. Many large companies are already stating they will not be participating because the fine is lower and easier to pay than trying to comply. This will more than likely simply add more strain.
For me (or anyone) to answer with any amount of confidence would be a good signal that I am confident in making bold statements about things where I do not have enough information.
In the end, we are going to have to take our medicine (pun intended) as a country and get the overall system in good working order.
What I can say with a good amount of certainty is that the old fee-for-service model will be replaced with some form of population management. What that will look like is much much tougher to predict.
