We are a country of war and violence. How many wars and conflicts are we currently in? Cut the head off and the body will die. We send messages to our youth that the only way to settle a disagreement or argument is to kill. Notice that nations that practice peace don't have these problems, or at least very few of them.
angry/violent people and "tools" which one and only purpose is to kill do not mix. common sense that if you mix these things you will get bad results. and some people want more!

I dont care what political party anyone belongs to, if anyone believes the laws in place which allowed a monster to gun down a room full of small children with a fucking military grade assault rifle dont need changing, well then there is something seriously wrong with you.
this has no place in society. none. this shit belongs in warzones and that is it.
bottom line is the laws in place allowed this to happen.
6 and 7 year old children should have never had to stare down the barrel of this thing as they were murdered by a disgusting human being.

Hang on a second - for the past 2 days all we've heard from the reporters and media is that there was a rifle in the shooter's car, and he entered the building and used 2 handguns.
This is something that I simply refuse to believe that the media gets wrong and continues to report it.
Based on the police reports from the day the event happened, the rifle was in his car - not in his hands.
So either at some point the shooter left the building and went back to his car to put the rifle back, and then went back in the school.

There was a second shooter there with him that didn't off himself and left with the rifle.
media got a lot of things wrong in the beginning. they originally thought it was his brother.
they also reported for hours that his mother was a teacher and it was her class.

On a federal level, the assault weapons ban expired a number of years ago. I think it was 2004.
States still have their own laws on them. CT, currently has a law "outlawing" assault weapons and anything fully automatic.
The photo that airportis put up of the nasty looking "military grade" assault weapon is really a semi-automatic rifle that fires a .223 round.
For reference, a .223 is something that most of us would use for hunting squirrels, varmits, and other small game. Remmington makes a really nice bolt action .223
99% of what you see in that picture he posted is window dressing. It has a larger clip (30 rounds). That is the difference there. It isn't a fully automatic weapon - you can see the selector switch right above the trigger (safe and semi). There is no "automatic" selector switch on that.
But, this gun, -looks scary-.
For comparison,let's say you have a ferrari, and a car next to it that has everything a ferrari has except the body of it is a VW Beetle and it is rusted out. It's the same engine, everything else underneath. Your eyes are going to go straight to the ferrari because it looks faster, because it looks slicker, when the performance between the two cars would be virtually the same.

Even worse, this weapon isn't a Bushmaster .223 and looks more like a shotgun.

looks like a news report to me. I asked about the police report you said mentioned the assault rifle in the car.
as I already said the media got a number of things wrong including the original identity of the shooter.
I put the wrong link there - have updated with with the right link - of the actual footage fo them pulling the weapon from the trunk.
So are people calling for a ban on semi automatic weapons? Or fully automatic weapons? It sound like fully auto are already illegal.
Are they calling for a ban based on the size of the round or the amount of rounds in a clip?
Maybe I'll start another thread. I'd like to learn about what exactly the differences are and why certain ones are being looked at to be banned.

didnt they say the mom had an arsenal of guns? at least 3 more than the 2 hand guns and rifle that were mentioned originally?
regardless of it being 1,2,3,4 or 20 guns. 1 assault rifle is 1 too many. this thing shouldnt even be allowed to own. anyone who isnt a gun nut can see this thing only has 1 purpose.
