I may be a little biased on immigration since my wife was born in Cuba....... her family came to the US with nothing financially to speak of, except obtaining a green card. They did however have political asylum due to Cuba being taken over by Communism. That was two generations ago, and not one person in my wife's family ever accepted any government subsidies. Her uncle became a realtor and was a multi millionaire when he passed at age 75. My wife's parents own two homes in different states, they never made over 50K a year together in their lives. I have the utmost love and respect for my wife and her families beliefs and values. They are die hard republicans, my mother in law has a picture of Ronald Reagan in their home. A true "American" story of success due to there hard work and diligence. They do receive social security checks, which they earned. There are MILLIONS of other immigrants with similar stories of success, it's called America people. We are a country of immigration........
I asked my mom in law why she had a picture of Reagan in her home. She said, "unlike Trump" he gave immigrants an amnesty program to become US citizens for those who could prove work history and without a criminal record. Wow, what a novel idea?
She also said that she will always be republican in spite of our racist president
