Lou Holtz seems to think ND deserves a shot at OSU or Michigan in the championship game. Save Michigan beating OSU by 26 or more, someone please describe a scenario where ND belongs in Glendale. TIA

No scenario what so ever...they don't belong...Lou Holtz could be worse than Theisman and Mark May combined...

Because when they met on ND's field, Michigan kicked the sh!t out of them. They are the better team, regardless of computer SOS or how they finished. This was settled, on the field, 9/16/06. End of debate.

totally agree, I don't care who ND beat...They loss head to head at home...there is no debate here...

Michigan gets there chance at beating Ohio St. this Sat. Michigan should not get 2 chances to get 1 win.

I think ND beating USC @USC, and ND playing a tougher SOS, redeems their loss against Michigan. Especially since USC has NEVER lost in the month of November and USC hasn't lost @home since 2001.

Michigan has inside track. Beat OSU you are in. If UM loses, they shouldn't go. Why reward a LOSER!

IF USC was undefeated going into the ND game and lost to #5 BCS ND, you easily could argue Arkansas should jump USC to the BCS NC even though USC beat ARKY @ARKY 50-14. That game was played early Sept. USC should NOT get rewarded for LOSING to ND.

Under this scenario USC would have two losses and be out of consideration, regardless of what happened vs Arkansas. Its not a question of "should" USC be rewarded for losing to ND because they CAN'T be rewarded for losing to ND. They gave up that chance when they laid an egg in Corvallis.

While we're at it, let me ask you this Scott, who goes in this scenario?

ND beats USC
UM beats OSU
LSU beats Arkansas
Arkansas beats Florida
WVU beats Rutgers

this is a serious, yet slightly comical statement I'm about to make but...what about rutgers? I would not want to see rutgers in the championship game cause they would get smoked by their opponent, but IF they go on the road and beat WVU (unlikely IMO) and IF they run the table in a "major BCS conference," then why not the scarlet knights?

I was discussing this with a friend yesterday...why should ND get in with a blowout loss at home when Rutgers ran the table and netted a few quality wins? I think that would really show flaws in the system (as if there weren't any already) if a team does all they can do to get to the game and wins all of their games and gets left out of the championship game in favor of ANY one loss team...I don't agree that Rutgers would then be the 2nd best team in the country if they go undefeated but if Rutgers and either OSU/Michigan are the only 2 undefeated teams, both coming out of BCS conferences, then how do you deny Rutgers in favor of someone who lost a game?

how you like them apples?

img_apples.gif

all that being said, I would so much rather see a quality one loss team get in just so the game is competitive. If ND beats USC (not happening IMO) it will probably be them because of America's love affair with the Irish...the BCS committee knows where the money lies and where to get the best tv ratings

Is it just me or does anyone else think ND would get rolled by either MICH/OSU:shrug: ....again....

I think the Big Ten champ will be seeing SC or Florida...

If ND gets in the national title game, my love for college football will take a serious hit. It would be on par with what the strike for me with baseball. If those same players played the same games with the same results, but did it with another name and uniform, they wouldn't be in the top 10. It's a disgrace.

Granted, I think this is all moot, because I feel despite being merely an average team this year, USC should be able to knock them off.

I said if USC was undefeated heading into ND. USC loses to ND = 1 USC loss. Arkansas = 1 loss to USC. I would give ARKY the bid over USC because USC lost to ND and I do not reward LOSERS. Now if ARKY played a real $hitty SOS and USC played a real tough SOS, then we might have an argument for USC. But then again, I do not like rewarding teams who lose at the end of the year.

That is an easy question.

Michigan vs ND :thumb:

I am not a fan of rematches but this would be ok in my book. Michigan played ND in Sept. LONG time ago. ND beating USC @USC proves they are different team now vs in Sept.

But ND already had its shot to beat Michigan (on its homefield), right? What's good for the goose is good for the gander. You can't have it both ways Scooter.

Don't like the Big East at all this year, but I think someone could make a case for West Virginia....at least their loss was to a top 5 team on the road. Also don't agree with the rematch because I do think the title game should be a matchup for conference champions (which is why ND is such a sticky issue)

They can also blame it on turnovers which seems to be a popular excuse for losses this season.

I'm so sick of the SOS crutch as well. Louisville offered home and home matchups to nine SEC teams and all of them declined. Also, some of these games are scheduled ten years in advance, can't fault a school if their opponent falls off the map within the decade that they are waiting for the contract to kick in.

Bjfinste had the best post on this so far, summed up what I'm thinking. I know it's a flawed system, but to see a team that got manhandled on their home turf play for the title game would be really tough to swallow.

Just another reason to dislike Michigan State, they could have left ND buried months ago.

The difference is this.

Michigan losing to Ohio St. at the end of the season and then getting a rematch in BCS NC game is rewarding a LOSER!

ND lost to Michigan in SEPT. and will end their season beating #2 BCS team USC @USC.

ND redeems themselves by beating USC and ending their season on high note. IMPRESSIVE!

Michigan ends their season with a LOSS. Not impressive.

Why give Michigan a free pass to BCS NC. They did NOTHING to redeem themselves. That would be rewarding a LOSER!

It is not like ND played an easy schedule. Can't a team improve? CAN A TEAM REDEEM THEMSELVES? You must prove to the country you improved. Lucky for ND, they get to play USC at the end of the season. If ND played TULANE to end the season, well then I would not be arguing for ND to get an opportunity in the BCS NC.

With your "scenario" a rematch between ND and Michigan would be warranted.

My two cents is you lose late and your done...you shouldn't be considered for the national championship...and hey that's fine put ND into the NC...they'll just get embarrassed again...they are on the same level as WV and Louisville...good offense piss poor defense...

So then, you're cool with regular season rematches in the national championship game after all?
