Putting in a new cooktop in at my parents house and the wires on it are the following:

Green Black Red

the wires coming out of the wall are:

White Black and Bare Copper

Which go with which, the house was built in 78' and I guess these wires have changed.

Not being stupid, but the damn instructions are for four wires coming out of wall and I can't figure it out.

Thanks in advance.....

Green = Bare Copper (ground)
Black = Black
Red = White

This is not an insult, but if you are asking this question and going to trust people on this forum for your answer, you may want to call someone to come in and help.

Please be sure to test the power coming in before doing anything. Don't trust it just because you turned off the breaker that you are pretty sure it is.

Be safe.

that was wrong:142smilie\

One time I was working on a light switch wires when my wife walked into the room.

I started jumping and convulsing while I was holding the wires like I was being electrocuted.

I reached out my hand for her to grab, and she turned and ran.

what ever happened to until death do you part:shrug:

Sounds like you are trying to hook something up that demands a 220 line and all you have is a 110 line coming out of the wall:shrug: what was originally hooked up to that old line?

here is the deal bro. If a stove was already located in this same spot then most likely the white wire coming from the wall is HOT. You have to hook the red from the stove to the white from the wall. Black to black and green to the copper wire. If only half the stove works then the white wasn''t hot.

That doesn't seem all that helpful.

If you start with "here's the deal, bro" you should follow that with either a correct and informative answer or a VERY smart ass one.

You, bro, provided neither.
